Friday, September 20, 2019

Last night I went to bed at 10:30, got up twice during the night, finally waking/getting up at 7:30.

Among new US movie releases I would like to see Ad Astra (7.3) and Rambo (7.2).  Locally, Ad Astra is playing in Viva Envigado and I would still like Teresa to see Yesterday still playing in Oviedo.

I watched the first 20 minutes of the Today show then left for the gym.  I completed my limited exercises in an hour and 5 minutes.

Back at the apt I took my shower and waited for Teresa to call me to meet for lunch.  She came back at 1pm and asked me why I didn’t answer my phone.  I showed her that according to my “recent calls” list she hadn’t called me since 5pm yesterday.  She showed me on her cellphone that she had called me and got voice mail so I don’t know what happened.

We walked to Salpi Jugos where Teresa ordered the menu of the day.  I ordered the Ceasar salad again since it was so delicious last time when I was with Jeannie and JoAnn.  Teresa commented that this must be a new restaurant and I showed her the cover of the menu that said they have been in business for 25 years.  So there!

The total bill came to almost exactly 50mil which is more than the usual 34mil that we pay at Asados Rogelio but it is nice sometimes to have something different.

Teresa returned to the apt to take a nap and I walked to the new copy center Impresionamos Digitalmente where I had 3 chess pages printed.

I walked to Parva where I had a café con leche while checking my chess notes.  When I was on my 2nd coffee Chuck arrived.  He had just returned from completing some errands in downtown Envigado.  He told me Darnely went to visit her family in Cali for a couple weeks.

He followed me back to my building so he could see where we are meeting tomorrow morning.  I stopped in Exito where I bought 2 bags of milk.  The cashiers here are so slow!

Tomorrow we show Chuck and John the finca.  It will be my first time back in 2 ½ years.

I finished reading John Grisham’s Camino Island on my Nook.

I still had some time to kill before bedtime so I got out my playing cards and played and lost 3 hands of Solitaire.

I heard a thud and went out on the balcony and I saw a motorcycle lying on its side in the street right behind a car partway out from the Exito parking lot.  No one appeared to be hurt and there didn’t appear to be much damage, if any.

It started raining at 10:30 just as we went to bed.

7,059 steps today.

Joke of the day
An old, tired-looking dog wandered into my yard. I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home.
He followed me into the house, down the hall, and fell asleep on the couch. An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out. The next day he was back, resumed his position on the couch and slept for an hour.
This continued for several weeks. Curious, I pinned a note to his collar: "Every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap."
The next day he arrived with a different note pinned to his collar: "He lives in a home with four children -- he's trying to catch up on his sleep. Can I come with him tomorrow?"

Last night I went to bed at 10:30, fell asleep quickly, got up once during the night, finally waking/getting up at 6:45.

I left the apt at 7:30 and walked to Carbon de Leña.  (I didn’t take the bus because I was afraid all the jostling would hurt my back.)  I had my usual breakfast for 9,200 mil.

Approaching Bancolombia about 8:30 I ran into Jerry.  We chatted for awhile and for my back he recommended I buy Dolex and take it twice a day for 8 days and also Dololed twice a day continously.  I bought both and the former (15,100 COP) I found out later is just 500mg of Acetaminofen which I have plenty of already.  The latter (12,050 COP) contains dry extract of the marigold flower.  He asked me if he took his girlfriend/wife to the States if she would be covered on his Medicare.  I believe not but I said I would try to find out.

Inside Bancolombia I had a little difficulty getting my turn number to print out.  I walked past the cashiers and noted that the one who helped me at the beginning of this month was in her usual spot at window #7.  I sat down and noted they were serving D400 and I had D402.  Before I could get my Reader’s Digest out they called D401.  I guess no one responded as they called D402 but it was for window #2.  I handed the young lady my World Remit info, my Cedula, and the piece of paper with “300” followed by my Cedula number and the word “Extranjeria”.

Incredibly, everything went smoothly and 5 minutes later I had my cash and was walking out of Bancolombia.  I hope in the future it will continue to be that easy.  Only problem is I forgot to reclaim the “300” note.  I guess I’ll have to make one up myself for the future.

I noticed the Exito across the walkway from Bancolombia now has express lines.  I don’t mean like separate lines for purchases under 10, I mean a single line where you then go to the next available cashier.

I took a bus back to the apt and dropped off my money and a few other things.  I understood Teresa would be leaving soon for the gym.

I walked back to Avenida Poblado where I caught a Sabaneta bus to Envios Market.  Unfortunately my “documents” didn’t include my Driver’s License only another Capital One credit card offer.

I took a bus back to Envigado and stopped for coffee at Parva.  It was quite busy and I ran into Mark and Jeff again.  While waiting in line we met a young Colombiana who spoke good English who said she’s a veteranarian specializing in horses and soon she will be visiting Ocala, Florida for further training.

At noon I called Teresa and she said to wait at Parva as she was walking back from downtown.  When she arrived 20 minutes later we walked back to the apt.

After lunch we tried to take a nap from 2 to 2:30.

Teresa and MT were going to Santafe mall so I left the apt at 2:40 and arrived at Oviedo by bus at 3pm.  I bought a ticket to Yesterday; yeah I know I’ve already seen it. The movie is just such an upper.  Today there were probably a dozen people in the theater.

Afterwards I walked the block to Santafe and met the ladies at J&C Delicious.  They were waiting for me to arrive to pay the bill.

In Falabella Teresa found a pair of leggings on sale for the gym.
We took a taxi back to the apt.

10,764 steps today.

Joke of the day
A young man asked an old rich man how he made his money.
The old guy fingered his expensive wool vest and said, "Well, son, it was 1932. The depth of the Great Depression. I was down to my last nickel."
"I invested that nickel in an apple. I spent the entire day polishing the apple and, at the end of the day, I sold the apple for ten cents."
"The next morning, I invested those ten cents in two apples. I spent the entire day polishing them and sold them at 5:00 pm for 20 cents. I continued this system for a month, by the end of which I'd accumulated a fortune of $9.80."
"After that," the old rich man continued, "I invested the $9.80 into a market stall so I could polish and display a lot more apples. I began making about $50 a month from then on."
"Then my wife's father died and left us two million dollars."

Wednesday, September 18, 2019

Last night I went to bed at 10:30, was awakened at 1am by a cramp in my right calf, quickly fell back asleep, got up once at 6am, finally waking/getting up at 7:30.

We have a light rain this morning, our first rain in weeks.

Well, my back is back to being a problem.

I forgot to recharge the battery on my electric shaver.  I plugged it in but it still doesn’t work.  After about 20 minutes I unplugged it and it worked long enough to give myself a shave.

I finally figured out the *** in my chess software.  It’s when it gives you a “find the best move” situation, even if it’s for your opponent.

I took a whole Excedrin and my back was soon feeling much better.
It wasn’t long before my back started bothering me again so I skipped the gym today.

After lunch I stopped at a new copy center I found next to Aymara.  It’s nice that I found a location close to the apt.

I went to Parva for coffee.  It rained on and off all afternoon and the café was empty until later in the afternoon.

On my way back to the apt I stopped at Eduardo Madrid Bakery where I bought 2 English muffins.

I received an email from Envios Market that I have documents waiting for pickup.  I hope it’s my Driver’s License.

We started watching Loving (7.0) on Netflix as recommended by one of Teresa’s friends but after an hour she said she would be too tired to finish it tonight.

I finally ate my half of the slice of carrot cake that Jose brought us from Maria.

Because of the early rains the temp didn’t get over 78 degrees today and that was around noon.  I love it!

4,533 steps today.

Joke of the day
A man was walking one day, when he came to this big house in a nice neighborhood.
Suddenly, he realized there was a couple making love out on the lawn.
Then, he noticed another couple over behind a tree.
There was yet another couple doing the nasty behind some bushes by the house.
He walked up to the door of the house and knocked.
A well-dressed woman answered the door and the man asked what kind of a place this was.
"This is a brothel. Do you want to get in on the action, honey?" asked the madam.
"Nah. I’m good thanks,” he replied, “but I was just wondering what the heck is going on out here on the lawn.”
"Oh, we're having a yard sale today," said the madam.

Tuesday, September 17, 2019

Last night I went to bed at 10:45, fell asleep quickly, got up once at 5:30, catnapped until finally getting up at 6:30.

Last week Chuck gave me a Thermacare wrap to use on my back.  Sunday I put it on at 3pm and took it off at 11pm just before going to bed.  It’s supposed to work for another 8 hours and my back did feel less week and sore the next morning.  My back still felt good this morning.  I wonder if Bengay would have the same affect.

I left the apt at 8:15 and arrived at Habia Una Vez at 8:30.  I had my usual mini breakfast of scrambled eggs with tomato and onion, a croissant with cheese and a small café con leche.  I finished and Jose had yet to arrive so I ordered another café con leche.  He soon arrived and joined me for coffee.  He brought me a slice of carrot cake from Maria.  Yes!

We went upstairs to the food court and I had the Black pieces for the first game.  As agreed he played the first move of the Sicilian opening but soon deviated.  I got aggressive early and got myself in trouble and I resigned on the 31st move.  (Back at the apt I entered the game into my chess computer database and did a blunder check on it.  For some strange reason the results only displayed the first 8 moves followed by ***.)

For lunch he had his usual burger and I had a sandwich from Q’Bano.

In the 2nd game I played the London System and he got a strong attack going that I managed to repel.  Then I gained a pawn and had the opportunity to win but I missed it and I lost again in the endgame.

I had a café con leche at Todo Fresa, bought milk and eggs in Exito and returned to the apt.

I received an email from Envios Market that my package of “documents” has been delayed in the US.  I hope that’s not my Drivers License.

I left the apt at 5:15 and met Chuck and John outside Otra Parte.  I told them we should meet later because we’re always waiting for the restaurant to open.  However, this time traffic was so bad we didn’t arrive at Mercado de Sabaneta until exactly 6pm.

It’s a bit smaller than the Mercado de Envigado but this one also has restaurants on the 2nd floor.  It was large enough to accommodate the 140 gringos who showed up tonight.  I met a guy from Chicago, a White Sox fan who really hates the Cubs.

I learned from Jeff Paschke (sp?), the founder of Medellin Guru, that the closed Mercado de Envigado is being remodeled.  I understand they are moving the restaurants in the back closer to the front to make room for a dance/party area in the back.  Jeff also will also be setting up a relationship with an insurance company and real estate agency in Medellin to make it easier for gringos to get health insurance and rent apartments.  I met the mother and son that were in the same row as me when I saw Yesterday last Thursday afternoon.

Chuck, John and I left just after 8pm.

I told them that we should be able to meet next Saturday to go see the finca.

7,406 steps today.

Joke of the day
A preacher went to his church office on Monday morning and discovered a dead mule (jackass to the knowing) in the churchyard. He called the police. Since there did not appear to be any foul play, the police referred the preacher to the health department.
They said since there was no health threat and that he should call the sanitation department.
The sanitation manager said he could not pick up the mule without authorization from the mayor.
Now, the preacher knew the mayor, and was not to eager to call him. The mayor had a bad temper and was generally hard to deal with, but the preacher called him anyway.
The mayor did not disappoint. He immediately began to rant and rave at the pastor and finally said, "Why did you call me anyway? Isn't it your job to bury the dead?"
The preacher asked the Lord to direct his response. He said: "Yes, Mayor, it is my job to bury the dead, but I always like to notify the next of kin first!"

Monday, September 16, 2019

Last night I took a full melatonin, went to bed at 10:45, fell asleep quickly, was awakened briefly by thunder, got up once at 5:30, finally waking/getting up at 7am.

I watched the first 20 minutes of the Today show then left for the gym.  I completed my limited set of exercises in an hour and 5 minutes.  I did increase my treadmill speed from 6.0 to 6.2 so I’m nearly running.  I could feel the difference between my knees and my ankles.

Back at the apt Teresa called me and informed me that she was still at nueve eps but she would call me when she is finished.  A few minutes later she called and asked me to meet her at La Casita Parilla for lunch.  I changed my clothes and took a bus downtown where it was just a long block walk to the restaurant.  We both had their chicken breast for 11mil.

I walked to Parva where I had a lemonade and waited for Teresa to finish getting her nails done.  She called about an hour later and told me not to wait as she won’t be done anytime soon.

I returned to the apt.

Chuck called me and he told me about the problem he’s having cancelling his AT&T service back in the States.  We agreed to meet Tuesday at Otra Parte at 5:30 and take a bus to the Medellin Guru gringo meetup in Mercado de Sabaneta.

I watched some Monday night football.

7,815 steps today.

Joke of the day
"Important Announcement: In light of the rising frequency of human - grizzly bear conflicts, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game is advising hikers, hunters, and fishermen to take extra precautions and keep alert of bears while in the field.
They advise that outdoorsmen wear noisy little bells on their clothing so as not to startle bears that aren't expecting them.
They also advise outdoorsmen to carry pepper spray with them in case of an encounter with a bear.
It is also a good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear activity. Outdoorsmen should recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear dung.
Black bear dung is smaller and contains lots of berries and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear dung has little bells in it and smells like pepper."

Sunday, September 15, 2019

Last night I went to bed at 11:30, fell asleep quickly, got up once during the night, finally waking/getting up at 8am.

I watched NFL football starting at noon.  The hated Packers beat the Vikings.

Starting at 3:20 I watched the Bears in a close one against the Broncos.  So, close the Bears won on a 53-yard field goal in the last second of regulation.

I spent most of the day downloading a large collection of chess videos I bought for $49.99.

14,479 steps today.  Obviously I forgot to record and reset my steps yesterday morning.

Joke of the day
A married couple was in a terrible accident where the man's face was severely burned. The doctor told the husband that they couldn't graft any skin from his body because he was too skinny. So the wife offered to donate some of her own skin.
However, the only skin on her body that the doctor felt was suitable would have to come from her buttocks.
The husband and wife agreed that they would tell no one about where the skin came from, and they requested that the doctor also honor their secret. After all, this was a delicate matter.
After the surgery was completed, everyone was astounded at the man's new face. He looked more handsome than he ever had before! All his friends and relatives just went on and on about his youthful beauty!
One day, he was alone with his wife, and he was overcome with emotion at her sacrifice. He said, "Dear, I just want to thank you for everything you did for me. How can I possibly repay you?"
"Honey," she replied, "I get all the thanks I need every time I see your mother kiss you on the cheeks."

Saturday, September 14, 2019

Last night I went to bed at 10:30, got up at 1am, 6am, finally waking/getting up at 7am.

Among new US movie releases there isn’t anything I want to see, including Monos (7.5), a Colombian film which has been out for weeks.

Locally, I would like to see Angel has Fallen (6.7) only playing at Santafe mall and I would like Teresa to see Yesterday (7.0) playing at Oviedo mall.

I left the apt just before 9am and took a bus to downtown Envigado.  I stopped at the copy center where I printed some chess notes and bought a couple cash envelopes.

At Todo Drogas I bought another pack of 30 Zopiclona because sometimes Teresa swipes one and I’m afraid I might run out before I can buy more next month.

I made a withdrawal from Banco Caja Social and still arrived right on time (9:30) at Carbon de Leña.  Glenn and James were already there waiting for me.  I recommended the calentado with huevos revultos and we all had that with coffee.

Afterward I was going to invite them for coffee at Parva but Glenn had to mail a letter to the States.

I walked with them to the mall where we found the Deprisa store just outside Exito.  Glenn gave the young rep his addressed envelope and after correcting a couple of her address mistakes he paid 111,100 pesos to have it UPS’d to the States in 4-5 days.
Wow, I thought I only paid 30mil when I had an envelope Fedexed to the States a couple years ago from Envios Market.

We went to Habia Una Vez where we had a drink until they had to return to Sabaneta.

I went into Decathlon where I found another section of “short pants”.  I went through a lot of different sizes until I finally found a pair of light material that were size 34/34.  I bought them for 81mil.
I sat in Cine Colombia for awhile cooling off.

I went up to the restaurant area but all the tables in Sarku’s were taken and I didn’t feel like waiting.

I took a seat in Best Burger but while looking at the menu I got a call from Teresa.  She asked me when I’m coming back to the apt for lunch and to remember to pick up a head of lettuce on the way.
I stopped in Exito and bought the lettuce and walked back to the apt.

I tried on my new short pants and they are slightly tight around the waist and a little long.  I did have to remove my shoes but I was able to unzip the pants into shorts and rezip them back to pants so I think I can do that without much trouble in public as long as I have enough light.

I understand Teresa called Darnely and since Darnely isn’t going to the party neither is Chuck and since Teresa won’t know anyone she can talk to she isn’t going.

I left the apt at 8pm, stopped nextdoor at Exito and bought a 1 ½ liter bottle of Coke.  Marcos apt was in a gated community Bosques de Viva Grande, Calle 25B Sur #45-50.

He and his girlfriend Johanna (sp?) greeted me at the door.  I gave Marcos the bottle of Coke and a little birthday gift – a small package of salted-in-the shell peanuts I had my daughter bring me when she was here.  I chatted with them a bit and while they were getting me a drink I said hi to about 5 Colombians sitting out on the balcony.  One spoke a little English.

I chatted with Marcos for awhile until John and his wife Adelaida (sp?) arrived.  John and I chatted for some time about one of his favorite topics – bicycling.  He mentioned the last movie he saw was Coco (8.4) which he strongly recommends.  Interestingly, my daughter Jeannie recommended the same movie.  He informed me that the Mercado de Envigado restraurant court has closed due to lack of business. He still wants to see the finca so I have to arrange that.

I finally left just after 11pm and walked back to the apt – a mere 4 blocks.

 steps today.

Joke of the day
A dentist was getting ready to clean an elderly lady's teeth. He noticed that she was a little nervous, so he began to tell her a story as he was putting on his surgical gloves...
"Do you know how they make these rubber gloves?"
She said, "No?"
"Well," he spoofed, "down in Mexico they have this big building set up with a large tank of latex, and the workers are all picked according to hand size. Each individual walks up to the tank, dips their hands in, and then walk around for a bit while the latex sets up and dries right onto their hands! Then they peel off the gloves and throw them into the big 'Finished Goods Crate' and start the process all over again."
And she didn't laugh a bit!!! Five minutes later, during the procedure, he had to stop cleaning her teeth because she burst out laughing.
The old woman blushed and exclaimed, "I just suddenly thought about how they must make condoms."

Friday, September 13, 2019

Last night I went to bed at 10:45, fell asleep quickly, got up once during the night, finally waking/getting up at 7am.

Just as I was going to bed last night it started raining lightly.  I think it may have continued throughout the night.

Teresa had already left for the gym.

I watched the first 20 minutes of the Today show then left for the gym.

I completed my exercises in a little over an hour.

Teresa was back at the apt when I returned.  She said she had to wait 2 hours at nueve eps to see a doctor.

She informed me that the fan is fixed and I can pick it up at Home Center.

After lunch we took a nap when suddenly Teresa jumped out of bed.  I smelled something burning and she told me she left a pot on one of the burners.

I walked to the mall where I had something scanned to my flashdrive, picked up the fan from Home Center, and had coffee in Todo Fresa.

I walked back to the apt, plugged in the fan and it worked.  I reboxed it and put it in the storage area in the garage.

MT called.  She is coming over because she’s bored.

Some time later I asked where MT is and Teresa said she’s tired.

I traded messages with Jooks (Glenn) and I’m meeting him and James for breakfast tomorrow at Carbon de Leña at 9:30.

7,935 steps today.

Joke of the day
Two sisters, one blonde and one brunette, inherit the family ranch. Unfortunately, after just a few years, they are in financial trouble.
In order to keep the bank from repossessing the ranch, they need to purchase a bull so that they can breed their own stock.
The brunette balances their checkbook, then takes their last $600 dollars out west to another ranch where a man has a prize bull for sale.
Upon leaving, she tells her sister, "When I get there, if I decide to buy the bull, I’ll contact you to drive out after me and haul it home."
The brunette arrives at the man’s ranch, inspects the bull, and decides she does want to buy it. The man tells her that he can sell it for $599, no less.
After paying him, she drives to the nearest town to send her sister a telegram to tell her the news.
She walks into the telegraph office, and says, "I want to send a telegram to my sister telling her that I’ve bought a bull for our ranch. I need her to hitch the trailer to our pickup truck and drive out here so we can haul it home."
The telegraph operator explains that he’ll be glad to help her, then adds "It’s just 99 cents a word."
Well, after paying for the bull, the brunette only has $1 left. She realizes that she’ll only be able to send her sister one word.
After thinking for a few minutes, she nods, and says, "I want you to send her the word, ‘comfortable.’"
The telegraph operator shakes his head.
"How is she ever going to know that you want her to hitch the trailer to your pickup truck and drive out here to haul that bull back to your ranch if you send her the word, ‘comfortable’?"
The brunette explains, "Don’t worry.  My sister’s blonde. She’ll read it very slowly."

Thursday, September 12, 2019

Last night I went to bed at 10:30, fell asleep quickly, got up 3-4 times during the night, quickly falling back asleep each time, finally waking/getting up at 7am.  The first time I got up I felt unsteady on my feet maybe because I took a whole melatonin instead of a half before going to bed.

Teresa left at 7:45 for the finca.

I watched the first 20 minutes of the Today show then left for the mall.  I printed out some pages at Auros.  I inquired at Exito if I could pay my epm bill there.  The young lady pointed toward the back and said something like ‘multipagos’.

I went up to the 3rd floor where I recycled a couple of pill bottles.
I stopped on the 2nd floor and made an ATM withdrawal.

I went into the Claro store and despite no one speaking English I managed to change my postpago plan from 8GB (I thought it was 4GB) to 12GB.  The new plan cost is 72,900 pesos (about $24) up from 58,900 (about $19).  The rep downloaded their app to my cellphone and now I can keep better track of my GBs.

I stopped in Decathalon where I found a pair of 33/33 short pants for 81mil ($26).  I guess either I get them shortened professionally or I just wear them long.

I had a café con leche in Todo Fresa.

In Home Center I bought 2 D batteries for the next time the hot water heater stops working.

I stopped in Exito where I paid my epm utility bill.  I’m hoping in the future to pay most of my bills in the mall instead of having to make a trip to downtown Envigado.

I exchanged some things back at the apt.  I left again at 12:20.

On my way through La Buena Mesa I noticed workers resurfacing one of the side streets with asphalt.

I met Chuck at Na Pizza at 12:30.  It was his treat to celebrate the Republicans winning a couple of seats in North Carolina.  The pizza was pretty good.

I invited him to join me for the movie but he had to go to downtown Envigado to send some money to Darnely’s family.
At Avenida Poblado I caught a bus to Poblado.  I stopped in Office Depot where I had some documents scanned to my flashdrive.

I walked 2 blocks to Oviedo.  On the 2nd floor where there used to be a furniture store there is now a Dollar City.
I bought a ticket to Yesterday (7.0) for 10,500 pesos and a small popcorn and small soda for another 13,200.

The theater was pretty chilly in my shorts but I managed to get through without even a trip to the restroom.  There were only about 4 other people in the theater including an apparently older gringo couple.

I enjoyed the movie very much.  It was nice to hear some Beatles music again without it being a biography and there were a few surprises near the end.  The budget for making the movie was 26 million dollars and world-wide it’s already made 136 million so I would call that successful.

After the movie I got a seat on a Sabaneta bus back to Envigado.

Since Teresa was still at the finca I stopped at Parva for a café con leche.

10,173 steps today.

Joke of the day
A husband decides to join his wife for the first time playing golf. He's never really been into the game, but since his wife was playing with all these men around, he wanted to come and check it out.
All day long he complains: About the heat, about the other people, about how long it's taking...
They are on the 9th green when suddenly he collapses from a heart attack!
"Help me," he groans to his wife.
The wife calls 911 on her cell phone, talks for a few minutes, picks up her putter, and lines up her putt.
Her husband raises his head off the green and stares at her. "I'm dying over here and you're putting?"
"Don't worry dear," says the wife calmly, "they found a doctor on the second hole and he's coming to help you."
"Well, how long will it take for him to get here?" he asks feebly.
"No time at all," says his wife. "Everybody's already agreed to let him play through."

Wednesday, September 11, 2019

Today is the 18th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 attacks.

Last night I went to bed at 10:30, fell asleep quickly, got up once during the night, finally waking/getting up at 7am.

I watched the first 20 minutes of the Today show and left for the gym.

I skipped the same exercises because of my shoulder pain and I completed the rest in an hour and 10 minutes.  I ran into Teresa on my way out and we walked back to the apt.

She told me she’s going to the finca tomorrow so I’ll probably have lunch with Chuck and maybe after I’ll see Yesterday (7.0) premiering in Viva Envigado.

We left the apt at 2pm and took a taxi to the Euro grocery store in Mayorista.  I helped Teresa pick up a few things.  I asked the security guard if he knew of a place nearby where I could print a few things from my flashdrive.  He pointed towards the front gate but I didn’t understand the details.  I walked in that direction but of all the stores I didn’t see anything that might do printing.

Outside Euro I ordered a small coffee and sat at an outdoor table.  I was soon sitting in the sun.  I certainly don’t remember this problem before so it must have been either cloudy or a different time of day.

I went inside and sat by the butcher’s shop until I cooled down.

We checked out our groceries and I was happy to see they charged me in pesos instead of dollars.

We soon were in a nice A/C car back to the apt.

We left the apt at 7pm and the elevator went up instead of down.  On the 8th floor a young girl got on with her mother.  I looked at her and she was looking at me.  I said “hi” and she said “hi’.  I asked her if she was studying English in school and she said ‘yes’.  Teresa then talked to the mother and I understand she promised that I would help her preparing for her English tests.

We walked to the corner where we quickly caught a taxi, picked up MT a couple blocks from her apt and went to Antica Pizza.  We each had a slice of pizza, Teresa had another and we each had a drink.  I checked my Cine Colombia app and it appears Yesterday is only playing at Oviedo mall.  Hopefully, they will update the appt tomorrow with more locations.  I think the waitress goofed as she returned 22mil in change from my 50mil.

We were back at the apt by 8:30.

Joke of the day
A guy goes over to his friend's house, rings the bell, and the wife answers.
"Hi, is Tony home?"
"No, he went to the store," she replies.
"Well, you mind if I wait?"
"No, come in."
They sit down and the friend says "You know Nora, you have the greatest breasts I have ever seen. I'd give you a hundred bucks if I could just see one."
Nora thinks about this for a second and figures what the hell - a hundred bucks. She opens her robe and shows one. He promptly thanks her and throws a hundred bucks on the table.
They sit there a while longer and Chris says "They are so beautiful I've got to see the both of them. I'll give you another hundred bucks if I could see the both of them together."
Nora thinks about this and thinks what the hell, opens her robe, and gives Chris a nice long look. Chris thanks her, throws another hundred bucks on the table, and then says he can't wait any longer and leaves.
A while later Tony arrives home and his wife says "You know, your weird friend Chris came over."
Tony thinks about this for a second and says "Well did he drop off the 200 bucks he owes me?"

Tuesday, September 10, 2019

Last night I went to bed at 11:45, got up once about 3:30, woke up at 6:30 finally getting up just before 7am.

I left the apt at 8:30 and walked to the mall.  I ordered the breakfast special at Habia Una Vez and Jose arrived and ordered his own breakfast.  We chatted a bit then took the elevator up to the 3rd floor to the food court.

I had Black for the first game and I played the Sicilian Defense.  I made a couple miscalculations and I resigned on the 24th move.

For lunch he had a sandwich from Q’Hubo and at his recommendation I had a burger from Presto.

I had White in the second game and I played the London System.  In the middle game I sacrificed the exchange (rook for a bishop) in order to stake a knight in the middle of the board.  He castled queenside and I got a good attack going and he resigned on the 33rd move.

We said goodbye.

I planned to look in Decathlon for short pants like I found in Columbia outdoor but first I made a trip to the restroom.  As I was coming out the overhead alarms went off.  They soon stopped overhead but I could still hear them in the distance.  Outside the entrance to Decathlon I saw employees and private security running all over the place.  Then about a dozen employees gathered outside the main entrance.  I saw a number of employees and security running toward the back of the 2nd floor area with fire extinguishers.  Then they rolled down the security gate.  I suddenly lost my desire to visit Decathlon.

I went to Todo Fresa where I had a café con leche and checked my cellphone.

When I left thirty minutes later I noticed the security gate was still down at Decathlon.  I never saw any smoke, however so I don’t know what was going on.

I walked back to the apt.

I watched Season 8, episode 16 of The Walking Dead on Netflix.

Tomorrow we should be going to Mayorista for groceries after lunch.

5,435 steps today.

Joke of the day
Three sisters of age 92, 94 and 96 live in a house together.
One night the 96 year old draws a bath, puts her foot in and pauses.  She yells down the stairs, "Was I getting in or out of the bath?"
The 94 year old yells back, "I don't know, I'll come up and see."  She starts up the stairs and pauses, then she yells, “Was I going up the stairs or coming down?"
The 92 year old was sitting at the kitchen table having tea listening to her sisters.  She shakes her head and says, "I sure hope I never get that forgetful." She knocks on wood for good measure.
She then yells, "I'll come up and help both of you as soon as I see who's at the door."
