Friday, April 3, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, got up twice during the night, woke up at 5:45 and immediately got a cramp in my right calf , then relaxed until getting up at 6:45.

Today is Good Friday!

According to my Fitbit, I got in 2,717 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 5 hours and 19 minutes.

Teresa informed me she’d like to have lunch today in El Tesoro mall.

I left the apt at 8:45 and timed my walk to Smartfit - exactly 5 minutes unless there is a holdup crossing Avenida Poblado. The first floor of the gym was almost empty; I counted a dozen people mostly men. The Abdominal Crunch machine no longer had the sign on it but it still wasn’t repaired. I completed 21 minutes on the treadmill with a final heartrate of 126bpm. It’s become obvious the limiting factor are my lower legs not my heart.

I had a latte in Ganso y Castor for about 90 minutes. The past week or so I’ve been going across the walkway and buying a ripe banana for 1mil to increase my potassium.

I stopped in a not very busy Ara and bought a bag of milk before returning to the apt.

I’ve squeezed out most of the juice for my tea from my dried-out lemon, now I’ve cut it up into small pieces and keep them in a jar in the fridge. It only takes a very small piece to give me the lemon taste I want and the piece can even be reused. 😊

Change in plans. Teresa now wants to have lunch in Otra Parte, I’m guessing because it’s closer. We left the apt at 1pm but found Otra Parte closed for the holiday. I mentioned Salpi Jugos is next door but on the way there she stopped and said it’s closed. (I don’t know how she knew as we weren’t quite there yet.) we turned around and walked a block the other direction and across the street to Picositas which I think of more of as a small bakery than a restaurant. Teresa ordered some type of casserole and I a chicken sandwich and we each had a juice for a total of about 110,000 pesos. My sandwich was barely warm and covered with cheese so obviously its not meant to be eaten with the hands.

Teresa liked her lunch, me not so much.

On our way to Gardenia for coffee we walked past Salpi Jugos and it was open!

I had a latte and Teresa a tinto and later she ordered a yucca waffle with berries and vanilla ice cream

Which were underwhelming.

She worked on a purse while I went from my cellphone, to my chess book, to my Kindle.

We met a gringo at the next table named Johnathon (sp?) with his Whippet named Coco. He has an apt he bought in Poblado for his investment visa and walked here today with his dog. He spoke good Spanish and was able to carry on a conversation with Teresa. He mentioned he will be in St. Charles (IL) in May to visit a sister. When Teresa mentioned the purses she makes and sells, he said it would be easy to set up a website to display her products and accept payments into her Bancolombia account.

He left and before long it started raining and when it became a downpour we moved to an inside table.

Finally, about 4:30 the downpour lessened and we returned to the apt huddling under my umbrella.

I got ChatGPT to work again I just needed to summarize and copy my long post to a new chat.

It’s time to deice the ice maker but Teresa has stuff in the utility sink so hopefully tomorrow night.

I watched some news, did my pre-sleep reading and went to bed at 10pm,

Thursday, April 2, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, took about 20 minutes to fall asleep, got up once midnight, again at 3:15, finally waking/getting up at 5:45am.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 6,494 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 4 hours and 47 minutes.

I met Marcos at Tostao at 9:30. He has the cast off his foot as his new doctor recommended his toes get fresh air. They leave three weeks from today for 5 weeks in Spain so

After Marcos left I stayed at our little table a little longer going through my endgame book.

I stopped in Mercado Madrid and bought a few vegetables before returning to the apt.

The plan was to go see the new movie Operation: Hail Mary (8.5) at 5:45 as long as it isn’t raining.

At 3:30 a thunderstorm came through and though we didn’t have more than a few stray raindrops it got colder and we both lost the desire to leave the apt.

ChatGPT isn’t working for me any longer. I’m guessing they now want me to upgrade to ChatGPT plus for $19.95 a month. Nah, I don’t think so.

I checked flights to/from Medellin/Boston and there aren’t many flights that would fit with my existing Boston/Chicago flight and the current price is $832. I texted my daughter to contact me before she has to give the restaurant the final seating number as I should have more information as to if I will make it or not.

I’ve lost games to Saul19780 and troyclough and my rating is now 1501.

I watched 40 Acres (6.5) on Netflix. It’s getting difficult to hear the dialogue even with my headphones.

I see a 6-cent deposit in my USAA account so at the next opportunity I can close my Capital One account.

Teresa told me she wants to stay at the Santafe hotel that only had four rooms; now all I have to do is figure out which one that was.

Teresa mentioned she wants to go to Parque Arvi tomorrow. I told her tomorrow is Friday (she sometimes mixes up days of the week) and I have gym so why don’t we go on Saturday. She told me that the gym will be closed for Good Friday. I doubt that, after 10 years of going to the gym I don’t recall ever finding it closed.

I think I messed up with my sleep medications. I took the magnesium glycinate just before bed instead of 1 ½ to 2 hours before.

I watched some news, did my pre-sleep reading and went to bed at 10pm,

Wednesday, April 1, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 9:30, took about 20 minutes to fall asleep, got up once 1:30, then it’s a little hazy after that, something about 4:30 and 5:15 but I finally woke/got up at 6:30.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 6,319 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 6 hours and 10 minutes. So far, so good.

I see my Social Security deposit in my USAA checking account so now I can go ahead and cancel my Capital One account.

Teresa wants to meet for lunch in El Pastelito today so she can spend some time at the cultural center for her crafts class.

I received an email confirming my package containing my Kindle paperwhite case and Slip-n-Snip scissors arrived in Florida.

I left the apt at 8:30 and found Smartfit a little less busy then usual. I completed my workout including 21 minutes on the treadmill although I forgot to increase the speed to 6kph until the 10th minute. The abdominal Crunch machine is still out of order and it looks like it won’t be repaired until April 21st.

I had a latte in Ganso y Castor for about 90 minutes, stopped at the copy center and printed yesterday’s games before returning to the apt.

This is the new playground they’ve built for the kids.

I see 6 cents in my Capital One account so I requested it to be transferred to my USAA account and in a few days I’ll close the former.

Teresa and I left the apt at 12:45 and took a Didi to the Casa de la Cultura near Parque Envigado. We went inside to take care of business while I walked a block away to El Pastelito where I waited for her. She returned about 10 minutes later and it was only another couple minutes before an outside table opened up. She had some type of fish and since I saw it on their blackboard menu, I ordered the BBQ ribs. Big mistake, it was only one rib and I had to dig to uncover the meat. Back to  chicken breast in the future.

Teresa returned to the culture center while I went to café Fika again. I had a latte while reviewing yesterday’s games and studying some of my endgame book.

Teresa returned at 5pm with MT. We walked her down to her apt and returned to our apt by taxi.

Teresa's latest purse, she finished in a little over a day.

I watched some news, watched the president’s address to the nation (learned nothing new), watched some analysis of it, did my pre-sleep reading and went to bed at 10pm,

Tuesday, March 31, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10:15, at 10:30 it started raining and I put a blanket over my sheet, fell asleep quickly, got up once at 4am, couldn’t fall back asleep but was awakened by my 6:30 alarm so maybe I got another hour towards the end.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 5,063 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 5 hours and 4 minutes. So far, I feel okay.

I took a Didi to Unicentro mall for 14,300 pesos. I arrived 20 minutes early (should have known when the ride was so cheap) so I walked twice around the mall. When it opened I went upstairs and took our usual table. Jose joined me a few minutes later. We both had the French toast and I had remembered to bring my maple syrup. This time I also made sure my bottle of water was “sin gas” (uncarbonated).

We moved to the food court and I had the Black pieces in the first game. He quickly got the advantage and checkmated me on the 20th move.

I had the White pieces in the second game and quickly got an advantage. On his 43rd move he blundered his rook and quickly resigned. Actually, we had a disagreement. He moved his rook to where I could capture it, let go of it, realized his mistake and wanted to move it somewhere else. He agreed he had let go of it but he claimed it was still his turn since he hadn’t pressed the clock. I consulted ChatGPT who had this explanation:

Since I want to get my ride as early as possible I certainly don’t want to wait for his clock to run out. I think we settled things before I left.

It was just before 1pm when we finished and I ordered a Didi to take me to Viva Envigado for 18,400 pesos. Most drivers are aggressive but mine was very timid and almost made me nauseous because he used the accelerator for braking. I saw this interesting US Army jeep

Which I think I’ve seen here before.

I found Sarku full so I continued on to Pergamino where I had their granola with yogurt and fruits.

Downstairs I paid for the apt and other first of the month bills. I made an ATM withdrawal then went down to Urbania and had a latte.

I left at 4pm and picked up some groceries in Exito before returning to the apt by taxi.

I watched some news, did my pre-sleep reading and went to bed at 9:30. Tonight for the first time I reduced my zopiclone to ¾ tablet. We’ll see how that affects my sleep.

Monday, March 30, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, took a while to fall asleep, got up once at 3:15 fell back asleep quickly, woke up at 5am and got up at 6am.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 8,450 steps yesterday and last night I slept for only 3 hours and 49 minutes. So far, I feel okay.

I left the apt at 8:45 and found Smartfit as busy as usual. I had to change the order of my routine and the Abdominal Crunch machine was still out of order. Despite all the walking I did on Saturday and Sunday I still was able to complete 21 minutes on the treadmill.

I had a latte in Ganso y Castor for 90 minutes, stopped in Eduardo Madrid and bought a sleeve of 6 poppy seed bagels then stopped in Ara to buy a few groceries before returning to the apt.

We made broccoli and cheese soup for lunch. If I didn’t mention it before, Teresa believes she left out the harina (flour) the previous time when the recipe didn’t turn out so well. This time it was delicious.

I had a 30-minute nap after lunch but didn’t go out because it felt like it would start raining soon even though it didn’t.

I watched the news, The Week Night, and The Rachel Maddow Show on MS NOW then finished my book, Ken Follett’s Whiteout on my Kindle and borrowed John Grisham’s The Runaway Jury (1966).

Sunday, March 29, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, got up once at 2am, fell back asleep quickly, woke up at 6:15 and got up at 6:45. Finally, eight hours sleep.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 7,476 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 4 hours and 21 minutes. So far I feel good.

It’s 10am and we’re dressed for Santafe de

We left the apt at 10:30 and walked to the Ayura metro station. I added 50mil to my Civica card then we had a 5-minute wait for a train. (Sundays there are fewer riders so they have less trains running with fewer cars.) We got off at Caribe and walked the block long ramp to Terminal Norte. Downstairs we got in a fairly long line for a bus. Teresa talked to a man standing nearby and I guess made an arrangement for a colectivo to take us to Santafe de Antioquia for 30mil per person. He led us, and another couple, to his private car packed in back. His face was messed up like he’d been in an accident and I didn’t care for his driving. He went 80kph even when the speed limit lowered to 60, 40 or for a minute 30. Once he tried passing a truck in a no passing zone but was soon encountered by two motorcycles. Luckily we arrived safely next to the main park after a ride of just over an hour.

As soon as we stepped out of the car we were reminded of how HOT Santafe is. (Note to self: wear sandals here!)

Teresa asked if I remembered where the restaurant is we like and I said, “yes”, and guided us straight there. I call it Jumanji, after the movie, but that’s not exactly correct.

All the inside tables were taken but one I could see they were finished eating. (It’s a good thing we didn’t wait for it because later they had dessert.) We went outside and took a side table but it became apparent we would soon be in the sun. we moved under a large umbrella table but soon Teresa spotted an area on the other side of the plaza with fans. We moved there and it was much more tolerable than under the umbrella. Teresa had salmon and I the chicken breast.

I also had a limonada de coco and she a cold beer. We were in no hurry to leave and she started working on a purse and had another beer and I a Coke.

We left and walked to the other side of the park and I tried to guide her using google maps to a hotel named Casa Bixa Boutique which was supposedly the nicest in Santafe. Teresa stopped and asked a woman for directions and she ended up sending us to a secondary hotel. (Ask a poor person for a hotel recommendation and they’re not going to be recommending the best hotel in town.) So we saw that hotel – nothing special. Then I led her to mine and it only has 4 rooms so I guess that’s why it’s considered “boutique”.

At each hotel Teresa inquired about availability this coming week but they were full for Samana Santa (aka holy week).

I asked her if she wanted ice cream at the place we’ve been to before and she agreed. It was a 3 ½ block walk to the café next to Hotel Mariscal Robledo. They didn’t have strictly ice cream but after Teresa was told they didn’t have diet ice cream I ordered a slice of hot apple pie with a generous amount of vanilla ice cream. Teresa liked it so much she suggested we order another which I did.

From there we walked back to the church and down the hill. Just before we crossed the street to the bus station a bus pulled up in front of us and a guy got out and yelled, “Medellin”. We got on and it was 20,000 pesos per person and it was air conditioned and even had a restroom in back. The trip back to Medellin was 2 hours due to heavy traffic near the city but I got in a 30-minute nap on the way.

New photo of Annie James:

We returned to Envigado by metro and taxi and Teresa suggested we stop at McDonald’s. (I think she was too tired to make anything.) I ordered a Big Mac for myself and the usual McNifica for Teresa. She was bitterly disappointed her burger didn’t have cheese and refused to it. I didn’t know if it was my mistake because I didn’t ask to add cheese as I assumed it would be included. Teresa talked to one of the workers and they made a fresh burger for her with cheese.

Teresa called someone and when we left we caught a taxi at the street to take us near the cultural center where Teresa paid 30,000 pesos for one of her purses that had been finished. We returned to the apt and it being 8pm I started my pre-sleep routine.

Saturday, March 28, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, got up once at 2:15, woke up at 5:15 and got up at 6am.

I discussed my sleep progress with ChatGPT and Tuesday night I’m going to reduce my zopiclona to ¾ tablet.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 1,010 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 4 hours and 10 minutes. Well, so far I feel good.

I took a Didi to Daniel’s Barbershop for 8,000 pesos. I arrived a few minutes early but he finished with another customer a few minutes after 9am. He told me he has another gringo client named Dave Anderson. While we were finishing up another gringo came in. Daniel asked how he was and he said, in English, “I’m in pain”. I asked where he’s from and he said, “Florida. But in June when cryptocurrency goes where it should I’m moving to Dubai”. I asked him if that isn’t too close to Iran and he said not to worry the war will be over by April 13th. He then said that Trump is the greatest president ever but some people don’t like him. I told him I’m one of them and my opinion is he’s our worst president ever. He didn’t have anything to say after that. As I was leaving, I could see he had a lot of difficulty moving around and my parting words were “good luck”.

I found a little shortcut to Todo Drogas but I probably won’t use it again because I had to walk downhill a bit and then climb stairs to get back up to calle 37sur. I bought 5 medications for 223,200 ($61) and surprisingly one was zopiclona. Still I’m planning on weaning myself of it but at least now I have some insurance.

I stopped at the copy center where I had my latest games with Jose printed.

I continued on to La Buena Mesa where I had a latte outside Ganso y Castor. Teresa called and informed me she was going to Parque Envigado to have her purse finished then we’ll meet back at the apt around noon to go to Santafe mall for lunch.

Somebody told Teresa that traffic would be horrible today so she asked me to have lunch in Asados Rogelio and bring her a to-go order. Instead, we left the apt at 1pm and took a Didi to Santafe mall for 12,500 pesos.

We had lunch in Olivia’s; salmon for Teresa and mixed lasagna for me

and we shared a bottle of water for a total of 127,069 pesos ($34.50).

She went to see if she could find something in Zara to cash out her 3 gift cards while I went down to Valentina’s and had a latte. She returned an hour later and sold one of her purses

for 140,000 pesos to the waitress who had ordered it. An obvious rainstorm came through and it got noticeably colder. Marcos sent me these photos:

he stubbed his toe when he was in Arizona and finally went to the clinic here and it’s broken. We left at 4pm, bought a new container of glue in Dollar City and across the street caught a nearly empty bus back to Envigado.

The plan tomorrow is to go Santafe de Antioquia and check out their hotels. If it’s raining then plan B is to see Project Hail Mary (8.5) in a theater.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 4,389 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 4 hours and 32 minutes.

Jeannie responded that she’ll save me a seat at the baptism in hopes that I make it.

It’s a cold rainy morning and the rain still hadn’t stopped by the time I was ready to leave for the gym at 8:30 so I skipped it for today. The rain didn’t stop until about 9:30 but by then I had already done my backup exercises with my dumbbell.

After lunch a thunderstorm cake through so I ended up not getting out at all today.

Teresa finished the purse she made for the waitress in Valentina’s; now she just has to have the guts (lining and zipper) put inside.

Last night I went to bed at 9:45, fell asleep quickly, woke up at 4am, gave up falling back asleep at 4:45 and got up and started my day.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 6,186 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 3 hours and 46 minutes.

I met Marcos at Olivenza at 9:30 for coffee. I exchanged my remaining 140 Euros for Colombian Pesos. They leave about this time next month for Madrid. He informed me this girlfriend will be walking the dog from now on because he's afraid of falling and breaking a hip. He turns 75 in September.

Marcos left at 10:15 and I moved down the hall to Peccato where I had a latte while going over my Fitbit manual. I learned that what ChatGPT thought was counting levels climbed are really Active Zone Minutes earned based on how long your cardio is in peak zones.

Annie James

I left at 11:15 and stopped in Mercado Madrid and bought a few groceries before returning to the apt.

I left at 2pm and had a latte in Gardenia. About 3:30 it got cloudy and windy and suddenly at 4pm the waitresses all came out and grabbed stuff like menus and napkins off the tables. That’s when I figured they knew something I didn’t so I paid and left in a few raindrops. Right after I got back to the apt it was a downpour.

I sent an email to Jeannie explaining our decision not to go to Boston this year because of the war and the resultant increase in prices including airfare. Also, that I hope to catch a less expensive seat at the last minute.

It was a couple hours before the storm passed and I was able to reconnect the television and watch some news before starting my pre-sleep reading routine.

Wednesday, March 25, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, got up once at 2am, woke up at 4:45am, gave up falling back asleep at 5:30 and got up and started my day.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 4,917 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 4 hours and 15 minutes. I need to read that manual to better understand these readings.

I left the apt at 8:30 and found Smartfit busier than usual. I had to change the order of my routine but at least didn’t have to wait for anyone. I completed the treadmill finishing 21 minutes at 6kmh with a heart rate of 125bpm. The Abdominal Crunch machine was out of order again, same as Monday.

I had a latte in Ganso y Castor for about 90 minutes before returning to the apt.

I checked my blog and my last appointment with ophthalmologist Dr. Catalina Montoya was September 23, 2021.

I left the apt at 2:30 and took a Didi to Clinica de Oftalmologia Sandiego for 20,200 pesos. I arrived by 3pm for my 3:45 appointment, went up to his 7th floor office (705) and peeked in. The waiting room of about 10 seats was full and a few others were standing at the door. I went down the hall to the main waiting room and killed 30 minutes by reading the Fitbit manual on my Kindle. At 3:30 I returned to the office, presented my cedula at the desk then took a seat. I was allowed in back (Consultario 1) at 3:45 and was interviewed by an optometrist that spoke some English. She completed a questionnaire and a visual exam then put drops in my eyes to dilate my pupils and sent me back to the waiting room.

I resigned my game against Saul19780, lowering my rating to 1522.

Twenty minutes later I was allowed in to Consultario 3 to see the Ophthalmologist. He was an old man … but not older than me. 😊I mentioned Dr. Catalina Montoya and he informed me she retired. His English was worse than the optometrist’s but we muddled along. Bottom line, there is something he doesn’t like about my left eye, something to do with pressure, so he wrote up an order for additional tests. The appointment will be Tuesday, April 7th at 8:45am.

I paid 360,000 pesos for the appointment and went down to the main lobby. I confirmed with a rep at the billing area that I would be able to pay for my upcoming tests with a credit card and the cost of the two tests will be 177,000 pesos for the “Campo Visual” and 396,000 pesos for the “Tomografia Optica Coherente”. That’s a total of 573,000 pesos ($155).

While waiting for my Didi I observed a mother eating an ice cream cone and her 3-year old daughter yelling, “da me helado”. 😊

Traffic was horrible, over an hour to get back to Envigado. Teresa called and we agreed to meet in Chiclayo. Traffic was down to one lane by Smartfit so I got out at Gardenia and walked the last two blocks which was faster than the cars were going. Even though I had paid 34,200 pesos for the ride, I tipped Luis another 20,000 pesos, which probably blew his mind.

Teresa and I had their Peruvian chicken and rice and she had an aromatica and I just a glass of cold water, no ice. The total check came to 102,900 pesos and I paid with cash. We stopped in Ara for a couple items on the way back to the apt.

It was now about 8:45 so I started my pre-sleep routine with pills and reading and went to bed at 9:45.

Tuesday, March 24, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, got up once at 11:30, again at 4:30 finally waking/getting up at 6:15.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 4,109 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 5 hours and 29 minutes.

At 7am a drizzle started. At 7:15 I warned Jose I might have a problem getting a car. I didn’t but traffic was a little heavy and I arrived at Unicentro 5 minutes before opening for 26,000 pesos. I bought a banana at the fruit cart and had a short wait to enter the mall.

I went upstairs and took a short video showing Cine Colombia, Shake n Shack, Smartfit and Zonafit. The later is where i can purchase Creatine powder in the future.

Jose arrived a few minutes later and we ordered breakfast. I had my usual French toast with scrambled eggs and again today I remembered to bring my Canadian maple syrup. When it came time to pay, Jose couldn’t find his debit card. He had made an ATM withdrawal previously and must have left it in the machine. He hustled downstairs and luckily a security guard had turned it in to the Information desk.

I moved to our usual location but when Jose arrived he informed me the restroom was closed due to a burst pipe so we moved to our old location at the other end of the food court.

On our game days I’ve been buying a bottle of water in the restaurant to drink during my games but today the one they gave me was “con gas”, in other words, “carbonated”. After one sip I threw away the rest.

The first game ended in 37 moves with an absolute agreed up draw.

In the second game I made it very difficult for Jose to protect his king by castling and the computer later said I had a “decisive advantage” when on the 31st move I blundered a rook and immediately resigned.

It was 1:30 when I ordered a Didi to take me to Viva Envigado for 18,600 pesos. The driver dropped me off at the main entrance and I went up to Pergamino and had the granola with yogurt and fruits. I think the couple next to me were speaking Russian.

I went down to the banking area and made an ATM withdrawal.

I went down to the main level and had a latte in Urbania.

With the help of ChatGPT, I figured out that the meaning of one of the Fitbit symbols is the number of flights of stairs I’ve climbed but I don’t believe the number they posted today – 24.

Teresa called and asked me to buy her green apples and dishwashing liquid in Exito.

I left at 4pm and bought what she requested plus a large carton of eggs and returned to the apt by taxi.

Kelly was supposed to come give Teresa a massage but she called and said she won’t be coming because she’s having some problem with her eyes.

With the help of ChatGPT I used Amazon’s Send to Kindle feature to transfer the 70-page Fitbit manual to my Kindle. 😊 I just have to be careful with the timing because once I exit a book I’ve borrowed that’s whose loan has expired, the book will no longer be available and I’d have to check it out again.

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, got up once at 2:30, finally waking/getting up at 5:45.

The street is wet so we must have gotten some rain overnight.

Today is a holiday – Saint Joseph’s Day.

According to my Fitbit, I got in7,156 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 4 hours and 19 minutes.

I left the apt at 8:30 and found Smartfit not very busy. The Abdominal Crunch machine was out of order but I completed the other machines without any problem. I intended to do 21 minutes on the treadmill finishing at 6kph but got a pain in my right groin area at the 9 ½ minute mark so I decreased the speed to 5.5 kph and finished the 21 minutes.

I had a latte in Ganso y Castor for about 90 minutes before returning to the apt. We had a downpour at 3pm that lasted a few minutes.

I ordered a Fitbit Inspire 3 Elastic Nylon Loop Band, Breathable Replacement Strap from Fintie for $8.99 to be sent to my ship forwarder in Florida.

Annie James “eating” applesauce on her own:

I hung around the apt the rest of the day, watching TV and reading.

Last night I went to bed at 10pm (still raining), fell asleep quickly, got up once at 11:30, finally waking/getting up at 5:30 but Fitbit says I only slept 4 hours and 19 minutes.

I left the apt at 8:15 and walked to Sao Paulo Plaza. In Olivenza I ordered calentao with scrambled eggs and a latte. Glenn with Bianca arrived a few minutes later. His cardiologist gave him some new medicine. He asked me to see if Pricemart had a particular brand of cottage cheese.

He left at 10:30 and I left soon after. I stopped in Be Good and bought a container of kefir for 30,000 pesos before returning to the apt.

Teresa returned at 1pm with this dead bird she found in the porteria.

If we were in the States I would say this is a Cardinal but who knows what it’s called here.

We left at 2pm and took a Didi to El Correo for 12,400 pesos. Teresa had the chicken breast with a baked potato and a Coke and I had their ribs with BBQ sauce and fries and a Coke.

The total check was 227,150 pesos ($67) and I tipped our attentive waiter another 20,000 pesos. A man came by selling something and I gave him the last 2 ribs that I had kept to-go.

We left at 3:45 and took a Didi to Pricesmart for 10,100 pesos.

We were both upset they didn’t have our turkey breast, the main item we came for. Teresa found a pair of chair pads for 60mil, one as her work chair and the other for my desk. They didn’t have my Canadian maple syrup so I bought a large container of Mrs. Butterworth’s. At least they had the Johnsonville breakfast sausage so I’ll have some protein on gym mornings. The total came to 797,229 pesos ($216) and we returned to the apt by taxi for 16,000 pesos.

These are Teresa’s latest finished purses:

That Kefir is thick stuff; really difficult to get out of the container.

I watched the end of the St. John vs Kansas basketball game that preceded 60 Minutes, then some news, read some, and went to bed at 10pm.

Saturday, March 21, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, took a while to fall asleep, got up once during the night, again at 4:45, couldn’t fall back asleep so I got up at 5:30.

According to my new Fitbit I only slept 3 hours and 58 minutes. Not sure what it’s trying to tell me.

I returned to bed at 6:30 and slept until 7:30 when I was awakened by my alarm.

I walked to the mall and recycled a battery, bought a package of 2 small superglues in Home Center and took a seat in Urbania where I had a latte for about 90 minutes. I agreed to a draw with chesswiz98 and left about 11am. I stopped in Exito and bought a few things before returning to the apt by taxi.

Teresa called about 1pm and asked me to meet her for lunch in El Pastelito. I stopped in Eduardo Madrid and returned a couple plastic containers for them to reuse and continued on to the restaurant. MT was with her, using her cane for the first time.

There was a line so Teresa suggested we go to El Correo in Provenza. I ordered a Didi but after 10 minutes the line disappeared and Teresa asked me to cancel our ride, which I did. We took an outside table but we were partially in the sun so we moved inside. We had the typical menu of the day for a total of 60,000 pesos.

They returned to Casa de Cultura and I went down the block to F!ka where I had a latte and went over my chess notes. I’ve been to this café before, it’s obviously a repurposed house. Upstairs they have a few tables and others downstairs in what’s is obviously a garage, still with the rolling garage door. A group of 8-10 men and women were having some type of meeting and I took a seat nearby.

Teresa called at 4pm and asked me to meet them outside the cultural center. I did and she motioned me inside, they had music coming from somewhere that Teresa informed me was from the 1920s.

We walked to a busy Eduardo Madrid bakery and had to wait for a table. It only had two seats so I had to wait another 20 minutes or so for a chair for myself. I bought a 6-pak of poppy seed bagels as my last muffin will be tomorrow. It started raining and we waiting until almost 6pm for it to stop. Teresa fluffed down a taxi to take MT home and then us.

Teresa is going to meet someone at 11am tomorrow to finish her purses so I’m going to have breakfast with Glenn.

I watched some news then read some from my book.

A downpour started about 8:30 and was still raining when I went to bed at 10pm.

Friday, March 20, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, took a long time to fall asleep, got up once at 2:45, seemed like I couldn’t fall back asleep but maybe I just slept lightly, finally getting up at 5:30. ChatGPT reports this is normal as my body acclimates to the new magnesium and half Benadryl.

This morning Teresa is going to El Heuco with Najely (sp?) for more material to make purses and bracelets.

I left the apt at 8:30 and found Smartfit pretty busy. I had to change the order of my routine a couple times but finished the treadmill with a heartrate of 124bpm.

On my way to Ganso y Castor they had the northbound lane of Avenida Poblado closed and under construction with two-way traffic on the southbound side.

A worker confirmed this is for the Metro Plus but she had no idea what year buses will be running. 😉

I bought a banana from across the aisle and had a latte taking my time as I believe I’ll be having lunch on my own today.

I left at 11am, bought a bag of milk in Ara and returned to the apt.

Teresa called at noon and informed me I’ll be having lunch on my own. She suggested Asados Rogelio. Right!

I left the apt at 1:45, stopped at the Bancolombia kiosk and printed a few chess games and continued on to Biftek

where I took an inside table. On the other side of the room was a large table that had finished eating then started playing some type of card game.

I ordered their Biftek Burger, an order of fries and a Coke.

The burger was okay but as usual in Colombia a little messy to eat.

I moved to Los Porteños and had a latte and started to go through the chess games I just had printed.

I left at 5pm and returned to the apt.

Teresa made some noise about going out – first she wanted me to go to Chiclayo and bring back food for her, no thanks. As usual, nothing came of it and I just had an apple for supper.

I ordered a package of 8 bamboo purse handles from Amazon for Teresa’s purse making. I also added 3 small pill containers and of course Amazon had to split the order.

I got my Fitbit set up but at one point it displayed something in Spanish and ChatGPT suggested I reinstall the app but I think I’ll wait on that.

I watched some news then continued reading in my book.
