Last night I went to bed at 11:30, got up once at 4:45, was awakened by my 7am alarm, did my Kegel exercises, and got up.

I met Glen with Bianca at the gas station at 8:30 and we took a taxi to Poblado. It was a 2-block walk to Seré where we had French toast and coffee. We left about 10:30 and took a taxi back to Envigado. They got out at Sao Paolo Plaza and I had the driver drop me off at our next door Exito. They didn’t have any milk so I walked down to Mercado Madrid where I bought milk, napkins, and broccoli and returned to the apt.

The ladies left at 12:45 for El Tesoro. I understand Teresa is looking for a bathing suit for Cartagena.

I watched the Bears lose to the Minnesota Vikings 31-17 to finish their season with a disappointing record of 6-11. Time for some changes!

I watched Eyes Wide Shut (7.4) on Medellin TV.

The ladies returned at 8:30.

The New York Times’ 7-day average of new daily infections and deaths has the US with 648,211 ð 656,478 ð 718,210 new cases and 1,499 ð 1,524  ð 1,687 new deaths.

Per Medellin Guru, as of yesterday, Colombia has a total of 26,190 ð 31,170 ð 30,630 new cases with 59 ð 38 ð 50 new deaths. Medellin has 4,843 ð 4,840 ð 4,899 new cases from January 8th to 9th. Envigado has 302 ð 281 ð 212 new cases from January 8th to 9th.

·        The lightning-fast spread of the Omicron variant propelled global caseloads to new highs, with well over 1.5 million cases reported daily as the new year began. The greatest surges were in North America and Europe, which were each reporting more than 100 daily cases per 100,000 people, the highest rates of the pandemic.

·        The city of Paris reimposed an outdoor mask mandate, joining the governments of Spain, Italy and Greece, all of which are experiencing record-high caseloads.

·        A British study of more than a million cases of the Delta and Omicron variants determined that Omicron is far less likely to lead to hospitalization than earlier variants, especially in people who are vaccinated. Other studies found that Omicron may not spread as easily to the lungs, a possible explanation for why its effects appear less severe.

·        As governments double down on vaccinations and boosters, Israel said it would offer a fourth vaccine dose to people 60 and older, even though there is so far little evidence about its effectiveness. French officials also said they were weighing whether to offer a fourth dose.

·        Health experts warned that wealthy nations’ rush to administer additional doses risked exacerbating the vaccination gap with Africa.
