Last night I went to bed at 10, fell asleep quickly, slept through the night, finally waking/getting up at 6am.

According to my Fitbit, got in 4,485 steps yesterday and last night slept for 7 hours and 20 minutes for a sleep score of 81, with a sleep efficiency of 94%.

I had a 34-minut nap after breakfast then left the apt at 9am for Smartfit. It was busier than usual which slowed down my routine. I was on the treadmill when Daniel walked by with a chess set and challenged me to a game. I soon finished my 10 minutes so I immediately went out to their patio where he had his wooden set ready, but instead of him sitting in my opponent’s seat it was another trainer. After a dozen moves or so I was up two pawns and was pushing back his pieces. The trainer got up and said something motioning for Daniel to take over his game. I don’t blame Daniel for not taking over a losing position so we started a new game. I felt like I had a small advantage and was trying to figure out how to save my bishop when he took my rook. I didn’t see that coming. Down the exchange, I held on and eventually checkmated him. I then went back inside and finished the last four exercises of my workout.

Having used up the hour I’m usually having coffee in Los Porteños, I walked to the park, left a peanut for the squirrels, ate a banana, and stopped in Ara for the few things Teresa requested for our lunch.

After lunch I had a short nap on the recliner and was ready at 2:30 to go out for coffee when it got dark, windy, and cool indicating we’re likely to have rain soon. The few raindrops soon stopped but it was enough to keep us from venturing out in the afternoon.

I watched more episodes of Seal Team on Netflix.

I finally removed all of Annie James photos from my blog for 2026. ☹

Last night I went to bed at 10:30, fell asleep quickly, woke up at 4am, got up at 4:30, read until 5:30, went back to bed, finally waking/getting up at 6:45.

According to my Fitbit, got in 5,869 steps yesterday and last night slept for 4 hours and 29 minutes for a sleep score of 52, with a sleep efficiency of 56%.

I forgot to mention I ran into Michael at the gym yesterday and he shared his future travel plans which consist of visiting his parents in Turkey, spending a month in Abu Dhabi and he’ll return probably in February.

Yesterday Teresa told me she wanted to return to the museum with the little dolls which I figured out to be the Museum of Science & Industry. Today she told me her favorite places to eat in Chicago: breakfast at the Buffalo Grove Deerfield Bakery, Tikka Masala in the Himalayan, chicken and rice in the Twin Dragon, and Italian Beef sandwiches in Mr. Beef.

I met Marcos outside Tostao where we had coffee and discussed some things. His girlfriend turned 44 today – he’s 75. Marcos had just left when I got this message from my son, “Bears sending two first round picks to Tennessee for DT Jeffery Simmon.” Jeffery is a 29-year-old Defensive Tackle, just started a three-year $105.8 million contract extension before training camp, has been a Pro Bowler four times and a two-time second team All-Pro selection as well. This is a blockbuster trade for the Bears signaling they are all-in for a Superbowl run. 😊

I stopped in Mercado Madrid and picked up some groceries Teresa gave me a list for. I didn’t understand some of the items she asked for but an employee quickly helped me find them.

I left the apt about 2:30 and had a Coke in Gardenia while continuing with my chess book. Again, I forgot to bring my cellphone. ☹ I completed a new page of 9 chess puzzles, getting 3 wrong.

I left at 5pm and stopped in Ara for a few things before returning to the apt in a light drizzle. It soon got harder but didn’t last long.

Teresa got a massage from Kelley.

I watched a few more episodes of Seal Team on Netflix, watched the first half of The Chris Hayes Show then the first half of Thursday Night Football before going to bed at my usual 10pm.

Last night I went to bed at 10:30, fell asleep quickly, slept through the night finally waking/getting up at 6:15.

According to my Fitbit, got in 4,500 steps yesterday and last night slept for 6 hours and 34 minutes for a sleep score of 81, with a sleep efficiency of 95%.

After breakfast I returned to bed and slept for almost an hour. I left the apt at 9am and found Smartfit busier than usual (beginning to seem typical for a Wednesday). I had to change the order of my routine, occasionally wait for my turn, but finished with a final heartrate of 120bpm on the treadmill.

Outside Blue’ Smash Brgr I noticed 3 young ladies taking photos outside the restaurant Lucio. I took a seat outside Los Porteños and saw 2 of the ladies were taking photos of the other one who would return to a nearby car with tinted windows to change into a new outfit in the back.

I left at 11am and returned to the apt.

Jeannie texted me and asked, for personal identity security purposes, she doesn’t want me to post photos of Annie James and she wants me to remove all I’ve already posted. ☹

I left the apt at noon and took a Didi to Mayorca. (Again, I was in an electric car but I couldn’t figure out how to open the door from the outside. The driver informed me it’s the same as a Tesla but I’ve never been in a Tesla.) Teresa already had a table deep inside Crepes & Waffles. My stomach was still a little iffy after having coffee in the morning so I just had a small Cesar salad without the chicken and a glass of water. We shared a cup of their Supremo ice cream dish for dessert. The check came to 81,150 pesos ($26). I informed Teresa I plan to pay cash in the future at Crepes & Waffles as they always give me a poor currency exchange rate when I pay with my debit card.

We left at 2pm and took a taxi back to Envigado, she got off at her regular spot and I continued up to La Buena Mesa. I had a Coke outside Blue’ Smash Brgr

while continuing with my new chess book. (It turns out the main books I bought aren’t for chess students but for chess instructors. The second set of books are student workbooks.) We had a short shower while I was sitting there, and Teresa had borrowed my umbrella.

I left at 5pm and returned to the apt.

I watched another episode of Seal Team then started deleting photos from my blog.

At 7pm I put on World Series game 5. The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 to win the 2026 World Series, 4 games to 1. Congrats guys!

I got to bed at 10:30.

Last night I went to bed at 9:30, the shaking stopped after about 5 minutes, fell asleep quickly, got up once at 12:30, again at 3am, finally waking/getting up at 6:30. No diarrhea.

According to my Fitbit, got in 819 steps yesterday and last night slept for 3 hours and 14 minutes for a sleep score of 40, with a sleep efficiency of 37%. ☹ But I don’t feel that bad.

After breakfast of just 2 scrambled eggs, I returned to bed and slept from 7:30 to 9am.

Teresa had already left for her gym class.

I finished season 3 of Seal Team.

I received as a text message, an invitation to Alejandro’s graduation with a major in Statistics on November 7^th at 7 pm.

I left the apt at 11:30 and quickly caught a bus to Master Key a couple blocks shy of Parque Poblado. It took about 20 minutes to make 2 copies of our 2 house keys. (The simple keys were 4,000 pesos each but the complicated keys were 40,000 pesos each.) I took a bus south to Oviedo mall and walked the last block then uphill to the closest entrance to Santafe mall. I arrived at Crepes & Waffles right at 12:30 and Teresa already had a table.

We had a nice lunch for 85,750 pesos ($27.15) then went down to Valentina’s for cake and coffee.

I was feeling tired so we left early at 4pm and quickly returned to the apt by taxi.

One of our porteros handed Teresa our epm bill of 387,889 pesos for September. That explains why our October bill was so high as it was for September and October. I told Teresa when she looks at my epm folder sometime in the future and sees an “unpaid” bill, this is the reason why. I can only pay bills I receive and epm seems to be spotty getting them out on time.

I went to Eduardo Madrid and paid for my 16 English muffins.

Kelly came over and gave Teresa a massage.

I finished reading John Grisham’s The French Illusion. Excellent! Not his typical book about the trials and tribulations of a small-town lawyer.

I went to download another book but my stateside library had “improved” their interface so it’s going to take a while for me to learn it so I watched the 8^th – 10^th innings of the Brewers vs Rays 4^th World Series game, finally getting to bed at 10:30.

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, got up once at 1am, again at 3am and found I had diarrhea. After my 2^nd trip to the bathroom, I took 2 Imodium (here called loperamida), after the 3^rd trip I took 1 more. Finally, it seemed to shut me down and I fell back asleep. I got up at 7:45 and found I had soiled my underwear. I had my usual breakfast of a bagel with strawberry preserves and 2 eggs and went back to bed.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 3,561 steps yesterday and last night slept for 4 hours and 58 minutes for a sleep score of 49, with a sleep efficiency of 53%. 😊

After breakfast I returned to bed and slept 90 minutes out of the 120 minutes in bed.

I still had diarrhea so I went down to the basement storage room and got a pair of diapers to wear until I’m confident I’m back to normal.

In the afternoon I had another nap and slept for another hour.

Troyclough blundered his queen on the 35^th move then resigned, increasing my rating to 1573.

I cancelled my chess meeting with Jose for tomorrow so I can get copies made of our housekeys.

I texted Eduardo Madrid Panaderia and ordered 16 English muffins for pickup tomorrow afternoon.

I watched more episodes of Seal Team on Netflix. I was reading my book when at 9:30 I suddenly felt cold and couldn’t stop shaking so I went right to bed.

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, got up once at 11:30, again at 4:45am, couldn’t fall back asleep, got up and read from 5:15 to 6am.

According to my Fitbit, got in 5,250 steps yesterday and last night slept for 6 hours and 12 minutes for a sleep score of 72, with a sleep efficiency of 91%. 😊

Back to bed and quickly asleep, finally waking/getting up at 8am and my new Fitbit stats are I slept for 7 hours and 25 minutes for a sleep score of 73 with a sleep efficiency of 77%.

After breakfast I returned to bed for a short nap.

We left the apt at 11:15, took a Didi and picked up MT at her apt and continued on to Exposiciones Station. We immediately were on a bus to El Retiro. For some unknown reason we sat in heavy traffic on Las Palmas for 10 minutes without moving. The trip to Indiana mall usually takes 30 minutes but today took an hour and 25 minutes in the rain. We arrived at El Retiro at 2pm (luckily the rain soon stopped) and on the walk up the hill I put my hand in my pocket and found my keys missing. I locked the apt door so I know I had them with me so they must have slipped out of my pants pocket on the bus (or maybe the Didi). Luckily Teresa brought her set of keys with her.

We had no wait for a table in Lomo Fino and had a nice lunch, solomito for me and chicken breast for the ladies plus drinks and tip for 188,000 pesos ($59).

We walked down to El Retiro Café where the ladies had a slice of lemon cake with drinks and I had a slice of carrot cake and a latte for 70,200 pesos. We left at 5pm and walked down to the bus station. Teresa inquired at the ticket booth about my keys but struck out. We quickly were on a bus back to Medellin where we caught a taxi back to Envigado.

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, slept through the night, finally waking at 5:30. According to my Fitbit, got in 4,883 steps yesterday and last night slept for 6 hours and 53 minutes for a sleep score of 81, with a sleep efficiency of 98%. 😊

I took a Didi to Daniel’s barbershop for my haircut then walked 10-15 minutes to Aymara where I had a latte for 8,900 pesos. I left at 10:30 and observed work ongoing inside the old Parva location. I stopped in Ara and bought broccoli but they didn’t have lettuce before returning to the apt. Teresa handed me a coconut that I took down to the basement garage and threw on the concrete floor to break open.

We left the apt at 2:45 and took a Didi to Cedimed on Calle 7. I paid 121,100 pesos ($38) for Teresa’s mammogram and she came out about 30 minutes later.

We took a Didi to Santafe mall and while Teresa checked out Zara I went down to Valentina’s and ordered an individual carrot cake with a latte. When Teresa returned, she ordered a croissant with cheese and a granizado (cold coffee with ice cream). She called her mother and invited her to join us tomorrow for a day trip to El Retiro but I understand it depends on how well she sleeps tonight, because she’s had cold symptoms lately. And we won’t venture out if it’s raining.

About 6:30 I asked for the check which was 81,9xx pesos. I gave the waitress 92,000 because I was running low on small bills. After about 5 minutes of her not returning with my change, I told Teresa I should have told her I was giving her 92mil; they probably put it all in the drawer thinking I was giving them exact change. Teresa called over the waitress and explained everything and she thought I was mistaken. I showed her all my remaining bills – 6 20s and 1 10 and told her I gave her a 50, 2 20s and a 2 (all thousands of pesos of course).

As we were leaving Teresa stopped at the cashier and I guess explained everything. Darned if the cashier didn’t count all the bills and change in her drawer (while the other 3 waitresses were gathered around) and subtracted that from today’s sales and the difference was 9,900 pesos. 😊 (In the meantime, Teresa had explained I was a mathematician in the US. 😊) Of course, she then gave me my 10mil bill.

We went down to the 1^st basement level and there was no wait for a taxi to return us to Envigado for 15,000 pesos.

I started my pre-sleep reading before going to bed at my usual 10pm.

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, slept through the night, finally waking at 6am. According to my Fitbit, got in 6,605 steps and last night slept for 6 hours and 21 minutes for a sleep score of 78, with a sleep efficiency of 99%.

I left the apt at 9am and completed my workout in Smartfit including 10 minutes on the treadmill with a final heartrate of 121bpm.

The walkway to La Buena Mesa on the other side of the street was open today. I had a latte in Los Porteños for an hour before returning to the apt. I dropped off my notebook and thermos and grabbed a market bag and went next door to Ara. Teresa had given me a list of things to buy and they had most items on my list.

About 2:45 it started drizzling in bright sunshine. I watched a couple more episodes of Seal Team on Netflix.

I was losing a game to Chesswiz98 (down a knight) and hoping to get a draw by repetition but then he started grabbing pawns giving me time to attack his king and he resigned on the 39^th move when I had a mate in 3.

We left the apt at 6:30 and took a Didi for 29,950 pesos to Hatoviejo on Las Palmas where we had supper with Jim and Joan. Teresa had her usual salmon with a glass of white wine and I the solomito (steak) with a Coke.

For dessert Teresa and I shared a churro with vanilla ice cream.

Jim and Joan leave tomorrow at 4:30 to fly back to Chicago. We heard thunder a few times during dinner and sure enough it was drizzling when we left. We returned to our apt by Didi for 14,850 pesos and since it was 9:15 I read a few chapters in my latest book before going to bed at my usual 10pm.

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, got up once at 11:45, finally waking at 4:15. According to my Fitbit, I had slept for 5 hours and 39 minutes for a sleep score of 75, with a sleep efficiency of 95%.

I couldn’t fall back asleep so I got up and watched some NFL highlights on DAZN.

I returned to bed, quickly fell asleep, finally waking/getting up at 7:15. My new total was 7 hours and 22 minutes for a new sleep score of 82, with a sleep efficiency of 78%.

And according to my Fitbit, I got in 5,690 steps yesterday.

I met Marcos at Gardenia at 9:30 and he informed me his cousin Marshall is coming to live with them for the winter. (He believes he won’t live through the winter with the Ohio cold.) He has Parkinson’s and sleeps 19 hours a day, only getting up to eat and use the toilet. He was in such bad shape when he left here last visit that they weren’t sure he would survive the flight. That’s a lot of responsibility to put on Marcos but he’s accepting it.

In the afternoon I had a latte in Los Porteños while completing another page of chess puzzles, getting 2 wrong. I played a 15’10” game, losing in 68 moves.

Teresa and I left the apt at 7pm and found Barrio Sur busy at the outside tables but almost no one inside. We took a large inside table and one of the waitresses changed the channel to the Bears game, although there was no sound and it was a Spanish transmission. Jim and Joan joined us 10 minutes later. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, which came with Fries, so Teresa could try it and she ordered their honey chicken. I was surprised they didn’t have Coke or Pepsi so I ordered a limonada de coco.

At halftime, the Bears were up 20-14 and Jim and Joan left and we returned to our apt. I finished the game there and the final score was Bears 30, Patriots 24.

It was 10:45 by the time I got to bed.

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, got up once at 1:45 (still raining), finally waking at 5:15 and getting up at 5:45. Still a light drizzle.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 4,998 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 6 hours and 41 minutes for a sleep score of 73 and a sleep efficiency of 93%. 😊

I left the apt just before 9and as I entered Smartfit the person at the front desk told me something about 10am. She called over a trainer but his English wasn’t very good. Best I can guess is they will be having a fire drill; I understood “simulacro” but heard a word different than “incendio”. Anyway, I finished my workout including 10 minutes on the treadmill with a final heartrate of 123bpm, and was out by 10 minutes to 10am.

I had a latte in Los Porteños for about 45 minutes before returning to the apt.

I left at noon and took a Didi to Mayorca. The car was a BYD electric car so I took the opportunity to ask if the trunk had enough space for 2 suitcases. He replied, “mas or menos”, that it wasn’t very large.

I recycled some old MagicJack cables I don’t use, printed my blood test results, and went upstairs where I met Teresa in Parmessano. She had her usual salmon and a herb juice and I the Cesar salad and a mango juice for 108,822 pesos ($34.50). She told me the salmon she had at Pimentos yesterday was the best she’s every had so she wants to take her mother there.

We went down to Medipiel where Teresa bought some stuff for $279,200 pesos ($88.50).

Down in the basement we caught a taxi back to Envigado.

Teresa got out down the hill from the cultural center while I continued in the taxi to Antonio’s Gelato. I walked around the corner and took a table inside Los Porteños. I completed another page of 12 chess puzzles, getting 4 wrong. I played a 15’10” game, winning in 61 moves. (Actually, I blundered a piece but my opponent didn’t catch it.)

I left at 5pm and returned to the apt.

Teresa returned from her visit with her mother at 8pm.

This shows the decline in the US Dollar (against the Colombian Peso) since tRump took office.

I watched another episode of Seal Team then The Chris Hayes Show.

I read James Patterson’s short story The Law Student on my Kindle.

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, slept through the night, finally waking/getting up at 5am.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 5,783 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 6 hours and 23 minutes for a sleep score of 75 and a sleep efficiency of 87%. 😊

Teresa got up at 5:30 and made my breakfast before she left for her gym class.

I left the apt at 7:30 and had a latte in Los Porteños while solving 10 chess puzzles, getting 4 wrong. I then played a 15’10” game, winning in 23 moves.

I left at 9:30 and returned to the apt.

Troyclough resigned our game in 14 moves, increasing my rating to 1563.

Teresa and I left the apt at 10:30 and took a Didi to Dann Carlton Belfort arriving just before 11am. Our private driver, Victor Cuartas Alzate (+57 305 403-6844), that Jim had arranged arrived on time. He spoke very good English and had a very spacious all electric car. He said it costs almost literally nothing (500 pesos) to charge it every month. It also came with a 500,000-kilometer, 8-year warranty.

We arrived at La Ceja’s park an hour later. It was much cooler (cold even) as we arrived. I guided them to Pimentos restaurant and we had no trouble getting a table. I had their spaghetti bolognese and a mango juice and Teresa one of their 3 types of salmon.

Jim and Joan had salads and everyone thought their food was delicious. I paid 150,000 pesos for our share of lunch. Outside we stopped in a nearby store where Joan bought a hoodie for 61,000 pesos. It started dripping as they went to explore the park area while Teresa and I cut straight across the park to Candilejas. I had a churro and a latte, that not only was good but very hot. They joined us about half an hour later and Joan had a cookie. We walked down to the bus station and after a short wait were on a bus back to Medellin. They got out at Indiana mall to have a glass of wine in El Correo while we continued on to Medellin. (Our next scheduled meetup will be Thursday night at Barrio Sur to watch the Bears game.) At Exposiciones station we quickly caught a taxi back to Envigado.

Teresa returned to the apt and I went next door to Ara and bought milk and a few red apples.

I watched another episode of Seal Team then The Chris Hayes Show.

I finished reading James Patterson’s Cross the Line (Alex Cross #24) on my Kindle.   

It was still raining when I went to bed at 10pm.

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, got up once at 3:15, finally waking/getting up at 6:15am.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 5,783 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 7 hours and 31 minutes for a sleep score of 84 and a sleep efficiency of 94%. 😊

Last night I had my university dream again, I guess because I had an hour of REM sleep.

Google took a selfie of me for security purposes. Boy, was that view scary. ☹

I had a short nap after breakfast then left the apt at 9am and found Smartfit not as busy as usual. I completed my workout including 10 minutes on the treadmill with a final heartrate of 117 bpm. I had a latte in Los Porteños for an hour, stopped at Eduardo Madrid and purchased 6 sesame seed bagels for 21,600 pesos before returning to the apt.

I left the apt at 12:30 and took a Didi with Andres for 20,800 pesos. He spoke good English, is married to a Hawaiian, has a US Visitor Visa and is in the process of getting a green card.

I arrived at Museo de Antioquia just after 1pm and Jim and Joan were at the entrance waiting for me. We were walking a few blocks away on our way to Versailles Café when suddenly Joan didn’t feel well. We walked to Hotel Nutibarra where Jim ordered a Didi. We dropped Joan off at the hotel then Jim and I continued on to Philly Steaks in Manila. Strange, but Philly Steaks was closed and there was an official sign on the door stating it would be closed for the first 4 days this week. I guided Jim down the block to Hacienda Manila where Teresa and I had breakfast once before. Jim had some Mexican dish over an arepa while I had their small lentil soup and a limonada de coco.

My lunch cost me 40,207 pesos. We walked 3 ½ blocks away where Jim showed me hotel The Cut which had a Pergamino café inside. He left and I had a latte but it wasn’t very hot so I only had 2 swallows. I left at 3:45, walked up to Ave Poblado (saw 2 guys playing chess on a small board), and quickly caught a bus back to Envigado.

I watched a few more episodes of Seal Team on Netflix.

Esmeralda came over for a while this evening.

At 8:15 I started my pre-sleep reading routine going to bed at my usual 10pm.

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, got up once at midnight, woke up again at 3:15, was awake including 30-45 minutes reading until 4:30, finally waking/getting up at 6:45am.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 5,553 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 6 hours and 39 minutes for a sleep score of 80 and a sleep efficiency of 77%. 😊

I left the apt at 9am, walked to Viva Envigado, recycled a battery, then took a seat in Urbania. I had a latte while completing another page of 12 chess puzzles, getting only 2 wrong. Jim and Joan arrived about 11am and had a quick coffee. We went upstairs to the banking area and I showed them I have no problem making a withdrawal with my debit card from a Davivienda ATM. They then tried and it worked for them also.

They looked in Exito for frozen hash browns to show Teresa but didn’t find them. We took a taxi to Ara where they bought potatoes, wine and a couple other things. I bought olive oil and sugar. We returned to the apt just in time for the beginning of the Bears game. Joan showed Teresa how to make hash browns with cheese and onion and we all had a taste and it was very tasty. The Chicago Bears beat the Atlanta Falcons 31-23. Their next game is on Thursday and then the next on Monday so we’ll have a couple Sundays we can go to El Retiro.

Jim and Joan left about 2pm and we’ll meet up again tomorrow in Plaza Botero for lunch.

I left at 3:30 and walked to La Buena Mesa where I had the regular smash burger with fries and a Coke in Blue’ Smash Brgr (sic). The burgers are good 😊 but I can’t stand their rap music. ☹

I left at 5pm and stopped in Antonio’s Gelato and bought a half liter of pistachio gelato before returning to the apt.

I watched most of 60 Minutes, with minor buffering, on CBS Chicago.

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, seemed like it took a while to fall asleep (because of the Coke?), got up once at 4:15, finally waking/getting up at 6:45am.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 5,607 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 7 hours and 37 minutes for a sleep score of 82 and a sleep efficiency of 90%. 😊

I guess I slept better than I thought.

Wednesday’s swim lesson with Annie James.

Chesswiz98 resigned our game on the 23^rd move, increasing my rating to 1564.

I left the apt at 9:30 and walked to the mall. I recycled two large plastic containers, withdrew 2,000,000 pesos (all 50s) from the ATM outside Exito, then paid the epm bill.

I had a latte in Urbania for an hour then stopped in a very busy Exito looking for a few things Teresa requested. I was only partially successful finding them then got in a long line at the Express counter.

I returned to the apt by taxi. On the way I saw construction in progress at McDonald’s. It looks like they’re creating second payment & pickup windows.

After lunch Teresa didn’t want me to go out for coffee so I just hung around the apt and finished season 2 of Seal Team.

At 6:30 I ordered a Didi to take us to the Dann Carlton where we met Jim & Joan on the 19^th floor revolving restaurant Giratorio. Service was spotty but I think everyone enjoyed their food while we got caught up on some things and planned some others. We split the check and our half was 214,974 pesos ($68). We ordered another Didi to return us to our apt.

It was late so I started my pre-sleep reading routine and went to bed at my usual 10pm.

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, finally waking/getting up at 5:30am.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 6,823 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 7 hours and 14 minutes for a sleep score of 85 and a sleep efficiency of 88%. 😊

Today Annie James is 13 months old. Happy Birthday Annie!

Still a light drizzle so I cancelled gym for today.

I left the apt at 9:30, dressed in jeans and a t-shirt, and had a latte in Los Porteños while continuing to read my new Step 1 book.

I left at 11am and returned to the apt.

I spent the afternoon watching more episodes of Seal Team on Netflix.

I received this email that Movistar is now part of Tigo/Une.

At 5:30 I got dressed and caught a bus to Medellin. I got off at the Calle 7 bus stop and walked to the Dann Carlton hotel where I made a dinner reservation for 4 for tomorrow night at 7pm.

Back at the same bus stop I quickly caught a bus and got off just down the hill from the Dann Carlton Belfort. It was a climb up to the hotel then I took the elevator up to the lobby where I waited for Jim and Joan. They soon arrived, checked in and took their stuff upstairs. I ordered a Didi to take us to Tagliata where we got a corner table. The place soon got busy and they had live music. I ordered the pasta bolognese and when they didn’t have limonada de coco I ordered a Coke (I probably should have ordered water like Joan).

I paid Jim for my meal in cash to give him some more pesos. We walked a few blocks away to the Tienda D1 then needed while I continued a few more block to Ave Poblado and to the bus stop by Calle 10. I immediately caught a bus back to Envigado.

Back at the apt I started my pre-sleep reading routine going to bed at my usual 10pm.

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, finally waking/getting up at 6:20am.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 7,949 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 7 hours and 56 minutes for a sleep score of 80 and a sleep efficiency of 95%. 😊

I left the apt just after 7am and quickly caught a bus to Medellin. It was standing room only but after I paid the driver a woman in the 2^nd row motioned me to the window seat next to her. “Muchas gracias, muy amable”. As I got off the bus just before Calle 7 my elbow bumped a helmet or something of the young lady behind me. I turned around and we both said, “pardon” at the same time. I crossed Calle 6 and cut through the bank parking lot and up the hill and as I turned up the path to Cedimed I noticed the same lady behind me. I turned around and in English said, “Are you following me?” and she laughed. I presented my medical order and my cedula at the entrance to the waiting room, was given a number and took a seat. (Interesting that this time I didn’t have to say, “no sexo, no bicicleta, no caballo, no comida”.) Five to ten minutes later I paid 428,300 pesos ($136) for all my blood & urine tests. Another 5-10 minutes later I was allowed in back and the phlebotomist took 3 vials of blood and put a small round “bandaid” on my blood site and I had her add the regular Band-Aid I brought with me. I was given a urine cup and after a trip to the restroom returned the urine sample.

Outside I walked up the hill to Carrera 37 then north to Calle 10. Another 2 blocks down to Carrera 35 and I didn’t see D’Andre so it must have closed and I don’t know when I’ll have hash browns again. I found Delarte nearby and they had what looked like an American breakfast. I ordered it with a latte and it was a lot of food.

I paid and as I walked back to Calle 10 I saw D’Andre restaurant. I must have missed it because it was behind a wall and up a few steps. I guess I’ll have to wait another 6 months for my hash browns.

I walked down to Avenida Poblado and quickly caught a bus back to Envigado. I got off at the Gardenia bus stop and stopped inside for another latte while completing 12 more chess puzzles, getting all of them correct. Finally!

I left at 11am and returned to the apt. Julio handed me my box of chess books as I entered the porteria.

I left at 2pm and walked to Blue’ Smash Brgr where I tried their vanilla milkshake

I think in the future I’ll stick with a Coke. I started reading the Step 1 book and the first 45 pages consisted of advice for the chess teacher.

I left at 3pm and returned to the apt.

I watched another couple episodes of Seal Team.

Last night I went to bed at 10pm (2^nd straight night with a blanket), fell asleep quickly, got up once at 1am, fell back asleep quickly, finally waking/getting up at 5:45am with Teresa.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 4,980 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 7 hours and 22 minutes for a sleep score of 84 and a sleep efficiency of 93%. 😊

Finally, a clear sunny day!

I sent US Chess an email asking why I haven’t been received their Chess Life magazine.

I left the apt just before 9am and found Smartfit as busy as usual. I completed my workout with minor changes to the order of my routine, including 10 minutes on the treadmill with a final heartrate of 121 bpm.

I had a latte outside Los Porteños for an hour before returning to the apt.

Carrera 44A used to be northbound only but they changed it to southbound only because of the construction on Avenida Poblado but I don’t see many cars taking advantage of it, maybe they’ll be detouring them in the near future.

At noon I got dressed and walked to the San Marcos Church bus stop to catch a bus to Sabaneta. I only had a 5-minute wait and paid the 3,800-peso fare. They have a large traffic circle now by Porci Carnes. I remembered where to get off just before the bus turned west and it was a 2-block walk to the park and another block to Viejo John.

Teresa already had a table in the back near the toilets. She ordered the posta (flank steak) and I the solomito and we each had a Coke. My steak was tender and delicious, same as last time I ordered it here. I couldn’t even it all of it, and got the remainder to go. I paid the waiter 112,600 pesos ($35) and gave him a 5mil tip. (Teresa reminded me it’s voluntary here and I guess a lot of Colombians don’t tip the waiters.)

We walked a couple blocks toward Exito, took seats outside a casino and after a 10-minute wait caught a bus back to Envigado, getting off across the street from Aymara. Teresa headed to her craft class and I stopped at the Bancolombia kiosk and printed my chess games from yesterday and my updated list of daily medications. I went to Los Porteños and tried their malteada alfajore 

but it’s too sweet for me. (I’m just trying to find something without caffeine to help me sleep at night. I guess I’ll keep on searching.)

I paid the check of 19,900 pesos and returned to the apt. (I left early because I was dressed too warm; It looks like we’re back in our usual 78-82 degrees stage.)

I finished reading Harlan Coben’s The Best American Mystery Stories on my Kindle and had to log back on to my laptop to download something new.

I went to bed at my usual 10pm.

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, took a while to fall asleep, got up once at 4:30 (still dripping), fell back asleep quickly, finally waking/getting up at 6:15 with Teresa.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 4,995 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 6 hours and 55 minutes for a sleep score of 78 and a sleep efficiency of 84%. 😊

At least the rain has stopped but it’s very overcast like it could rain again any minute.

Another cool morning so today I put on my hiking pants with a t-shirt and a jacket.

At 7:15 I ordered a Didi to take me to Unicentro mall. Traffic was slow, I’m sure the wet streets didn’t help, and arrived at the mall just as it was opening. I bought my banana and ate it while headed inside the mall where Jose was waiting for me. We had our usual egg casserole breakfast with coffee then adjourned to the food court.

Jose had the White pieces first and he checkmated me in 53 moves. I had the White pieces in the second game and I checkmated him in 43 moves.

It was 2pm when I ordered a Didi to take me to Viva Envigado.

Innovation Corp texted me that my current package will cost 110,000 pesos.

I had the granola, yogurt & chia seeds in Pergamino.

I went down to the banking area and deposited 110,000 pesos into Innovation Corp’s account.

Downstairs I had a latte in Urbania and solved another 12 chess puzzles, getting 4 wrong. I played a 15’10” game but lost in 34 moves.

I texted Teresa and asked if we need anything from Exito and she said, “nothing” so I walked back to the apt.

I watched a couple more episodes of Seal Team on Netflix, started my pre-sleep reading and went to bed at my usual 10pm.
