According to my Fitbit, I got in 588 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 8 hours and 57 minutes for a sleep score of 80.

Colombia played Portugal to a 0-0 tie. I’m sure both teams already qualified to advance. In the next stage, games like this will go to penalty kicks to break the tie.

I spent the day in and out of bed.

I’m now in the emptying the nose stage of my cold.

Thursday, June 25, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, got up at 5:30 to pee, couldn’t fall back asleep so I got up at 6:30.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 5,883 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 5 hours and 58 minutes for a sleep score of 71.

I met Marcos at Tostao at 9:30 and we discussed Glenn’s health situation. His son and grandsons are coming for a visit in the next few weeks.

I stopped at a nearby pharmacy and purchased a box of Hidroxicina Chlorhidrato tablets for my cold before returning to the apt. I’m in the runny nose phase of my cold.

Teresa sent me next door to Ara to purchase a few items she needed to make lunch.

At 2:43 I received this message from Glenn’s cellphone, “Hola terry ya murio clen (sic) lo siento mucho”. I’m sure that was from Daniela.

At 2:45 I received this message from Juan, “Glenn die”.

Later I found this obituary on Facebook:

I spent most of the rest of the day in and out of bed.

I’m sure I’m not going to gym tomorrow so I stayed up to watch the US play Turkey. The US won their first two games so they already qualified to advance to the next round so they played mainly their second stringers. Turkey won 3-2.

(I found out later that Annie’s dad, Jacob, was at that match.)

I got to bed about 11:15.

Wednesday, June 24, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 11pm, fell asleep quickly, got up at 5:30 to pee, couldn’t fall back asleep so I got up at 6:30.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 5,883 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 5 hours and 58 minutes for a sleep score of 71.

After breakfast I set my timer to 45 minutes and returned to bed for a nap, mainly resting my tired eyes.

I left the apt at 8:45 and found Smartfit as busy as usual but 4 chicas were hogging the Leg Extension machine. I finally completed my workout including 18 minutes on the treadmill with a final heartrate of 123 bpm. (I had some discomfort in my right hip joint but not so bad I had to stop.)

I had a latte in Ganso y Castor for about an hour before returning to the apt. I did stop on the way and bought a bag of milk in Ara.

I left the apt at 12:30 and took a Didi to Santafe mall. First, I printed yesterday’s chess games then went down the hall to Olivia. I didn’t see Teresa so I texted her asking where she was. She said she decided to have lunch in Parmessano and she was waiting for me in front of the large screen in the food court.

I walked through the food court which was huge with lots of tables and chairs. I told her I didn’t see her and to meet me at Olivia. She said she already has taken a table in Parmessano and to meet me there. After walking around the food court I finally asked a security guard the location of the restaurant. She said its on the 3rd floor, I wasn’t even on the right floor. I went down to the 3rd floor, found the restaurant, walked through it but didn’t see her. I told her I didn’t see her and to come out and get me. This continued back and forth for about an hour, when I finally realized she was in Mayorca. This isn’t the first time she has gotten the name of malls wrong but this morning I didn’t question it when she said Santafe mall. I told her I would have lunch here and meet her at the apt later.

I went to McDonald’s where now you have to order using one of their screens. I got through that but couldn’t figure out where to put the cash. I asked a cashier and apparently, I hadn’t finished the order and it gives you a receipt which you take to the cashier to pay. I had a Big Mac with fries and a Coke.

I stopped in Medipiel 120,500 pesos and bought Cetiphel Urea 20% which now comes in a tube instead of a pump ($35.50).

I won a game vs Troyclough increasing my rating to 1503.

I went across Ave Poblado and soon was on a bus back to Envigado. I got off at Gardenia where I took a table in front of the screen to watch some World Cup while having a latte.

Juan texted me that they are going to euthanize Glenn tomorrow instead of Friday.

I left at 5pm and returned to the apt.

I have some nose dripping so obviously I’ve caught a cold.

Daniela called and asked me if I want to come to the clinic when they euthanize Glenn but I took a pass. She talked to Teresa separately and got the same answer.

I finished reading James Patterson’s Four Blind Mice (Alex Cross #8).

I'VE BEEN UNDER THE WEATHER THE PAST FEW DAYS BUT HOPE TO GET BACK TO UPDATING MY POSTS SOON

Tuesday, June 23, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, took a while to fall asleep, got up at midnight to pee, fell back asleep quickly, woke up at 5am to pee, couldn’t fall back asleep so I got up at 5:30.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 6,051 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 4 hours and 55 minutes for a sleep score of 65.

I arrived 10 minutes early to Unicentro mall, enough time for one trip around the outside perimeter. When I completed it I was the guy with the fruit cart and bought a banana.

I met Jose in Parmessano where we had our usual egg breakfasts.

We adjourned to the food court where I had the Black pieces in the first game. My 17th move was a bad and I resigned on the 28th move.

I had the White pieces in the second game and got some good pressure against his king. On the 40th move, early in the endgame, he allowed me to fork his king and bishop, not gaining a piece but getting his bishop out of the game. At that point I was more confident of a win but he kept on playing eventually resigning on the 62nd move.

It was 2:15 when I ordered a Didi to take me to Viva Envigado. As usual the driver took backroads for the first half of the trip then switched to the expressway to finish it.

I had teriyaki chicken in Sarku’s, made an ATM withdrawal (all 100s at Davivienda), then a trip to the restroom. I was about to exit the mall proper when I realized I didn’t have my chess bag with me. I retraced my steps to the restroom then Sarku’s where they were saving it for me. Whew! 😊

I stopped in Exito and bought 3 oranges, 2 were normal sized but the last I suspect was really a mandarin, they just filled the wrong bin. I also bought a large cartain of eggs and returned to the apt by taxi.

Netflix is still asking me to pay my bill but still allowing me to watch movies. I watched another episode of The Handmaid’s Tale.

I did my pre-sleep reading from 8 to 9pm then watched Colombia beat the DR of Congo 1-0. On Medellin TV I found channels on a World Cup 2026 folder but too much buffering. I switched to the Telemundo folder and still had some buffering but it was acceptable.

I went to bed at 11pm, wondering how I would sleep tonight.

Monday, June 22, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, got up at 3am to pee, couldn’t fall back asleep, got up at 3:30 and read until 4am, went back to bed, seemed to take quite a while to fall back asleep, finally waking/getting up at 6:45.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 2,217 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 7 hours and 2 minutes for a sleep score of 79.

I took a nap for about 20 minutes after breakfast.

I left the apt at 9am and found Smartfit not very busy. I completed my workout, adding 5# to the Abdominal Crunch and Chest Press machines and completing the treadmill with a heartrate of 122bpm.

I had a latte in Ganso y Castor for about an hour.

I stopped at the Bancolombia kiosk and deposited 50mil in Teresa’s Bancolombia account. Hopefully, that will be enough to cover June’s Netflix payment and it won’t take too long to register.

Colombians celebrating the election of the new president:

We left the apt at 1:15 and took a Didi to Santafe mall. We had lunch in Olivia’s, where Teresa had salmon and pasta and I had the fettuccini with meatballs and a mango juice for 153,509 ($44.50).

We went down to Valentina’s where I had a latte,

Teresa had her cold coffee with ice cream and we shared a slice of yogurt cake.

We left at 3:30 and took a taxi to Clinca la Vida Ave Ochenta, a hospital specializing in cancer. Teresa forgot her cedula so she was expecting not to be allowed to enter.

Glenn was in a private room with a bathroom and a closet. He is in a hospital bed with one of those things in his nose to help him breathe. Daniela was with him and told me the rabbi was just there. I sent her down to the entrance so Teresa could come up. (Daniela doesn’t speak English.) Glenn had a laptop in front of him turned to a news channel but all I saw while I was there was buffering. I took off my facemask and was holding it in my hand when he took it and used it as a Kleenex to wipe his mouth and nose. He mumbled a few things but was near impossible to hear. When Daniela returned, she told me they are going to bring Bianca for a visit on Thursday. When we left Teresa told me they are going to euthanize him on Friday. This is all so sad, hard to believe he appeared so normal when I had breakfast with him last May 3rd. I assume his brother Peter and niece Carrie made arrangements with the rabbi to take care of his body.

We left and returned to the apt by taxi.

On another health front: Teresa’s sister Vicky has been in an ICU for pneumonia for the past week and soon will be having a heart bypass operation.

The US dollar has weakened considerably the past year plus, thanks tRump.

Teresa’s tanning spray arrived in Florida today.

I tried to update my payment method for my Netflix account with my debit card but every time got the same response, “There appears to be a problem with the payment method you are trying to use.” No indication what the problem might be. I noticed an option that said, “Not now” so I clicked that and was able to watch another episode of The Handmaid’s Tale.

Sunday, June 21, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, got up at 4:30 to pee, couldn’t fall back asleep, got up at 5am and moved to the recliner, read until 6am, went back to bed, fell back asleep, finally waking/getting up after the alarm went off at 7:30.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 6,112 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 7 hours and 33 minutes for a sleep score of 84.

It took about 20 minutes but I managed to switch my Fitbit bands but now I’m afraid to take it off because stretching it puts such a strain on the spring pins, I’m afraid it will fall off.

We made cheese and broccoli soup and again it came out clumped. I asked ChatGPT and it included these recommendations:

1)  Sharp cheese tends to separate more easily than mild or medium cheese

2)  Add the cheese a handful at a time and stir until melted before adding more

3)  Once you add the cheese, keep the soup below a simmer.

I had an hour nap after lunch (my Fitbit says I slept for 22 minutes).

I can’t access Netflix as they claim I didn’t pay the bill so I guess I’ll have to put more pesos in Teresa’s account. (I’ve been depositing 100mil every 3 months but I guess that isn’t enough.)

Late in the afternoon we heard lots of car horns and ooga (sp?) horns. I couldn’t find a soccer match going on to explain it so I guess it’s due to the election results. Colombia chose far right millionaire Abelardo de la Espriella as their next president with 49.66% of the votes.

I received a Glenn video call most likely placed by Daniela as Glenn didn’t have much to say. I’m not sure he even recognized me. Teresa told her we’ll visit Glenn tomorrow around 3pm to say our goodbyes.

I watched 60 Minutes, some of a soccer match then started my pre-sleep reading.

Saturday, June 20, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, took a while to fall asleep, got up once at 2:45, fell back asleep quickly, finally waking/getting up at 6:40.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 2,638 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 7 hours and 59 minutes for a sleep score of 82.

I had a Didi take me to Daniel’s barbershop and I arrived 5-10 minutes early for my 9am appointment. I finished my haircut at 9:30, paid Daniel 50mil which included a 5mil tip, wished him a nice coming vacation and walked the 6 blocks to Todo Drogas. They didn’t have 3.75mg zopiclona tablets so I bought 30 of the 7.5mg. I also bought 10 facemasks to replenish our supply. I walked to Ganso y Castor and arrived just after 10am. I had a latte while going through my phone.

Workers were replacing light bulbs in the park (La Buena Mesa)...

I left at 11am and returned to the apt. As I approached the porteria a motorcycle pulled up and handed a small package to Julio, our portero, and said, “por Terry Lee apartamento 422”. Julio took it and handed it to me and I said, “tiempo perfecto” and thanked him. It contains the spring pins for my Fitbit band.

Teresa and I left the apt at 1:45 and took a Didi to El Correo in Provenza for 16,639 pesos. Teresa had their Pollo Faruk with a michelada and later a Coke Zero while I had the BBQ ribs with a Regular Coke. I ate 4-5 of the ribs and got the last two largest ribs to go for my supper later. The check came to 216,333 pesos ($63).

At 4:15 we took another Didi to Santafe mall where Teresa checked out Zara then we went down to café Antonio’s. She had a granizado while I had a hot latte and we shared a slice of cheesecake. Teresa informed me tomorrow is presidential election day in Colombia and there might be violent protests so she recommends we don’t go out to visit Glenn or Vicky.

AJ getting into trouble already…

We left at 6:15 and quickly caught a taxi back to our apt. I left the container with the leftover ribs on the back seat of the car as I was paying the driver.

I watched another episode of The Handmaid’s Tale.

I finished reading James Patterson’s Violets are Blue (Alex Cross #7). I think I’m on track to break last year’s record of 35 books.

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, rain woke me up just before 1am so I made a trip to the bathroom, fell back asleep quickly, finally waking at 5:30 and getting up at 6am.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 4,865 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 7 hours and 4 minutes for a sleep score of 85. Still, I returned to bed after breakfast and maybe slept for a few minutes.

I left the apt at 8:45 and found Smartfit not so busy today. I completed my workout including 18 minutes on the treadmill with a final heartrate of 117bpm.

Jeannie informed me Annie James crawled this morning for the first time.

I had a latte in Ganso y Castor for about an hour. They took down the screen they had in the park but I’m guessing it will go up again for Colombia’s next game.

Teresa went to visit with Wilson and I left the apt at 1:30, stopped at the Bancolombia kiosk and made the 105,000-peso payment to Innovation Corp. I ran into Chris Cajoleas outside Barrio Sur. Two months after his shoulder surgery and he still can’t lift his arm. I asked him about the USA’s chances for a win today and the said they were good.

I took seat in Gardenia and had a latte and watched the US beat Australia 2-0 (including an “own goal”). I was literally the only one there for the game. They had the screen set up but I was some distance away and for a while I was looking into bright light from the sun and there was no audio.

I talked briefly with Juan, Glenn is not doing well and might not live out the week. I told him we would probably stop by Sunday to say goodbye. Carrie told me they found a place that will handle the cremation and send the ashes to Florida for $1950 so they are going with that.

After the match ended, I hung around for the Scotland vs Morocco match and had a cup of fruit with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Teresa called to inform me she wouldn’t be joining me but asked me to bring home their 3 mini burgers with pulled pork.

It got a little cool so I left at halftime, paid for everything and returned to the apt.

I finished season 4 of The Handmaid’s Tale; two more seasons to go.

Thursday, June 18, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 11:15, fell asleep quickly, a trip to the bathroom at 2am (it was raining), fell back asleep quickly, finally waking/getting up at 6:15.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 2,458 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 6 hours and 28 minutes for a sleep score of 77.

I left the apt at 9:15 and met Marcos at Tostao. I asked him about the $2800 for cremation and shipping the ashes to Florida and he thought that was reasonable. The $20,000 he quoted earlier, besides shipping the body ($6000), included burial.

Chris Cajoleas came by and we chatted briefly. He’s seen all but 4 of the World Cup matches thus far, probably all at Barrio Sur. He still can’t raise his right arm so he won’t be playing tejo for awhile.

Marcos got a call from Johana, she was at the bank and was missing some information so Marcos had to leave early.

I left at 10:30 and stopped in Ara for some apples, but they were out of the lettuce Teresa prefers, before returning to the apt.

I left the apt at 2pm, printed some chess notes at the Bancolombia kiosk then had a latte in Los Porteños.  I left there at 4pm and picked up a package in the porteria on my way back to the apt. It contained Teresa’s clasps for making bracelets.

I ordered some chess books, 50 Mistakes You Should Know: Valuable Lessons for Every Chess Player from New in Chess and The Step Method, Workbooks #3-5 from Amazon. The later were recommended by my chess course and all had to be sent to my ship forwarder in Florida.

I checked statistics on my games vs Jose and I have a winning percentage of 42.5% with the White pieces and 36.4% with the Black pieces.

I checkmated mekael965 in 21 moves, increasing my rating to 1494.

Aargh, I forgot to pay Innovation Corp to have my Fitbit band forwarded on from Bogota. Tomorrow!

I watched Canada defeat Qatar 6-0 on Telemundo.

Wednesday, June 17, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, a trip to the bathroom at 2:15, fell back asleep quickly, finally waking at 5:30 and getting up at 6:30.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 5,675 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 7 hours and 11 minutes for a sleep score of 81.

I rested my eyes in bed for an hour after breakfast.

I left the apt at 8:45 and found Smartfit busier than usual but I was able to complete my normal routine with little delay.

While having a latte in Ganso y Castor, workers were constructing something at the end of the park.

Since Colombia plays tonight, I’m guessing it’s a screen to broadcast the match.

Teresa called and asked me to order a Didi to take her to Clinca Medellin downtown so she could visit her sister Vickie.

I left at 11am and stopped in Eduardo Madrid and bought the 16 English muffins I ordered for 44,800 pesos.

I packed up my laptop and left the apt at 12:45 for Gardenia.

I had their pulled pork sandwich which wasn’t anything like I expected.

I worked a bit on my laptop (new chess course).

I left at 2:45 and returned to the apt, dropped off my backpack, grabbed my bag with the empty plastic muffin containers and took a Didi to the mall.

I recycled the plastic containers and went up to Cine Colombia and bought an IMAX ticket for the 6:20 showing of Disclosure Day (6.8). They must have had a lot of advance sales because I ended up with a general seat on the side for 11,300 pesos. The cashier asked for my id, then took my platinum card, tore it up and returned a regular card.

I had over 2 hours to kill so I went nearby to Claro and paid my cellphone bill for the month, withdrew 2 million pesos, printed yesterday’s chess games, then went down to Urbania and had a latte while going over the games.

At 6pm I made a trip to the restroom then returned to a very busy Cine Colombia. I can’t use the short Platino line any longer but I got lucky as a new cashier opened and they divided a line in half. On the other hand, it was slow but I bought my usual small (con sal) popcorn and large soda. As I entered the dark theater the trailers had already started but I easily found my aisle seat. The sound wasn’t too loud so I didn’t have to plug my ears this time. The theater was nearly full and the movie was good although not what I expected. I thought everything would commence from the disclosure day but it didn’t come until the end.

As I left it was 9pm, when the Colombia match was supposed to start so I walked to the other side of the mall and observed this.

Outside I quickly caught a taxi back to the apt.

I watched Colombia beat Uzbekistan 3-1 on the Telemundo channel on Medellin TV then went to bed at 11:15.

Tuesday, June 16, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, a trip to the bathroom at 2am, fell back asleep quickly, finally waking at 5:30 and getting up at 6:30.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 7,133 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 6 hours and 55 minutes for a sleep score of 84.

Annie James is 9 months old today.

At 7:15 I ordered my Didi and arrived 20 minutes early to Unicentro mall. I bought a banana then walked around the outside of the mall 3 times for exercise.

When the mall opened at 8am I went upstairs to Parmessano where Jose soon met me. We had our usual breakfast with coffee, mine costing me 50,500 pesos.

We moved to the food court where Jose had the White pieces in the first game. He got a strong attack against my king which I held onto finally succumbing on the 30th move.

I had the Black pieces in the second game and he blundered his bishop on the 38th move and he finally resigned on move 50.

It was only 1:15 when I left and ordered a Didi to take me to Pricesmart. I had a slice of pepperoni pizza and a Coke then bought 7 items for 365,986 pesos ($105.50), including breakfast sausage, Smuckers Strawberry Preserves, and 2 turkey breast. I could have bought a couple more but only had one bag and it was heavy enough.

I returned to the apt where Teresa was visibly distraught because her sister Vickie is in the hospital with pneumonia. How did she catch it? Best I could understand is Vickie didn’t wear a mask when she visited her mother a week ago.

I fell asleep for an hour on the recliner.

Carrie says Glenn may not leave the cancer clinic and, on his behalf, they are applying for permission for him to be euthanized, a process that may take up to 10 days.

I watched a couple more episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale, The Chris Hayes Show, then it was time to start my pre-sleep reading.

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, a trip to the bathroom at 2:15, took a while to fall back asleep, finally waking/getting up at 6:30.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 4,309 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 7 hours and 54 minutes for a sleep score of 88.

Today is another holiday, Sagrado Corazon (Sacred Heart).

I left the apt at 8:30 and found Smartfit not as busy as usual. I completed my workout including 18 minutes on the treadmill with a final hear rate of 118 bpm.

I was having a latte in Ganso y Castor when Teresa called and asked me to pick up broccoli in Ara. I left at 11am, stopped in Ara and picked up broccoli and a bag of milk. Only having two hands, I put my notebook in one pocket and my cellphone in my other so as to be able to carry the items I purchased. The weight of the notebook and cellphone nearly pulled my gym shorts down. 😊

We are out of eggs so at 2pm I packed my laptop and took a Didi to Viva Envigado.

I recycled a pill bottle and withdrew 2 million pesos from the ATM near Exito. I got in a slow line at Exito Wow to pay my epm bill.

I bought a mocha blanco latte in Starbucks for 16,500 pesos then took a table in the back and set up my laptop.

An hour later I still hadn’t figured out how to get an internet connection.

I left at 4pm and stopped in Cine Colombia to purchase a ticket to Disclosure Day for Wednesday afternoon but there was a long line at the cashiers and the ticket machines were out of order so I just skipped it.

I stopped in Exito and bought tomatoes and eggs before returning to the apt by taxi.

I watched another episode of The Handmaid’s Tale, then The Chris Hayes Show then it was time to start my pre-sleep reading.

Sunday, June 14, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, a trip to the bathroom at 12:45, fell back asleep quickly, another trip to the bathroom at 5am, couldn’t fall back sleep, got up at 5:30, downloaded a new book and worked on my blog notes, returned to bed at 6am, finally waking/getting up at 7:15.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 4,968 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 6 hours and 35 minutes for a sleep score of 74. My sleep score seems to be gradually getting worse.

It took a while to balance my USAA checking account because of those 6 crazy transactions. I had the payments and credit reversed. Like others, I lost a few bucks on that error.

I finished season 3 of The Handmaid’s Tale; two more seasons to go.

Teresa warned me that because this is a holiday weekend there will be a lot more people out. If it’s that bad we just won’t do that again.

We left the apt at 11am, pick up MT at her apt and continued on to Exposiciones station. A bus was about to leave but it was nearly full so we waited about 15 minutes for the next one and got our usual seats in the back.

The trip usually takes an hour to an hour fifteen minutes but today it was an hour and a half.

I spotted this Weber Grill store just outside El Retiro.

It was just before 2pm when we arrived at Lomo Fino and there was a short line.

When we finally got a table, both of the ladies had chicken and a glass of fresh juice while I had the solomito and a Coke for 183,000 pesos ($52.08).

We walked down to a busy El Retiro Café but got the last table, which was small with stools instead of chairs. We each had drinks and shared a slice of a not so fresh apple cake.

We left at 5pm, walked back down the hill to the bus station and soon were on a bus back to Medellin. An hour and 30 minutes later we were back at Exposiciones station. Taxis were waiting for us and we easily returned to Medellin.

I started reading James Patterson’s Cat and Mouse (Alex Cross #4) on my Kindle but it sure seemed like I had already read it. I did a search on my book list but didn’t get a hit. I searched my blog notes and found I read it May of last year. When I went back to my book list, I saw the title of a book was missing for that month, so that explains it. I’m glad it was free from Libby.

Saturday, June 13, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10:30, fell asleep quickly, a trip to the bathroom at midnight, fell back asleep quickly, another trip to the bathroom at 5am, couldn’t fall back sleep, got up at 6:15.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 6,747 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 6 hours and 41 minutes for a sleep score of 76.

The final score last night was USA 4, Paraguay 1.

Teresa got up at 7:30 and made pancakes. After breakfast I went back to bed and finally slept for about another 30 minutes.

Teresa wanted to go with me to Mayorista where I buy my Badia tea so she can buy a piece (not sure what term I should use here) of salmon.

We left the apt at 12:30 and took a Didi to the restaurant Amazonia for 11,400 pesos. The restaurant was crowded but I spied a small table inside. A waitress explained there was a line but when we walked to the corner the 4 people sitting on the curb weren’t alone, around the corner were at least a dozen more.

We went down the block to the Badia location but it was now Makeina and when I googled Badia, their Medellin store is permanently closed. It looks like they have domicilios (delivery to your home) if I could figure out how to use the app and pay for my tea.

Teresa bought some things in the store then I took her inside the mall and up to the 3rd floor to the food court where she chose a restaurant with traditional Colombian food. She also got a couple containers of frijoles to go and the total check was 70mil.

We quickly caught a taxi back to the apt for 15,000 pesos.

Still no internet so I packed up my laptop and went to a not busy Gardenia. I updated my blog and completed another chess lesson. This time I won 2 games, finally the last player was strong enough that we actually played a book opening. I left at 5pm and returned to the apt.

Still no internet but I finally figured out the problem…I didn’t pay the bill I received last Saturday so I guess they only give you a 4-5 days grace period then they cut you off.

I went to the Gana kiosk and after waiting about 20 minutes for an old lady to buy all her lottery tickets I finally paid the bill. I took a walk through the park to check out the crowd and see how many restaurants were showing the current World Cup match. Now until mid-July there will probably be a game on all the time.

I talked to Juan and Glenn is in isolation with a bad virus that’s causing his coughing and they’re only allowing one visitor at a time and they have to wear a mask and robe to prevent the virus from infecting others. Tuesday or Wednesday he’s going to be discharged and they are moving him into a hospice care home in Laureles as he certainly doesn’t need a place with a gym and pool.

I see the Scottish team qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 28 years and they beat Haiti 1-0.

I finished reading Target Alex Cross by James Patterson.

Friday, June 12, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, a trip to the bathroom at 1am, fell back asleep quickly, another trip to the bathroom at 4:30, couldn’t fall back sleep, got up at 5am and read until 5:40, fell back asleep, finally waking/getting up at 7:15.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 5,052 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 7 hours and 17 minutes for a sleep score of 81.

Glenn called and thanked me for my efforts with his iPad. He asked me to give it to Juan and he will go to Monterey mall and see if they can order a battery for it. I put a post-it note on it and left it with the portero when I left the apt at 9am for the gym.

Smartfit seemed a little busier than usual. I completed my workout including 18 minutes on the treadmill with a final heartrate of 120bpm.

I had a latte in Ganso y Castor for about an hour before returning to the apt.

After lunch I rested my eyes in bed for about 30 minutes.

I left the apt at 2:30 and stopped in Eduardo Madrid where I ordered 16 English muffins for pickup Tuesday afternoon.

I continued on to Ganso y Castor but all the inside tables were taken and it was too noisy outside to hear my chess lesson. I guess I need to skip this restaurant on the weekends as all tables were eventually taken and whenever I tried to connect to my cloud databases on ChessBase 16 it said it couldn’t connect to the server.

Nearby, Canada was playing in the World Cup but not many were paying attention to it. The USA plays Paraguay tonight at 8pm our time.

This is a short video of men cleaning the permanent umbrellas in the park or whatever they are called. Paraguas?

About 5:15 the men moved to the umbrella close to me and our waiter suggested I move. I just returned to the apt.

I found I have Wi-Fi but no internet.

I tried fixing the internet with no luck. I even tried restarting the router numerous times. I guess I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see if its fixed and if not spend more time on solving the problem.

Thankfully, my cellphone still has internet because it uses the Claro network.

When I went to bed the USA Men’s Team had a 4-1 lead over Paraguay in their opening World Cup game.

Thursday, June 11, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, a trip to the bathroom at 11:30, fell back asleep quickly, another trip to the bathroom at 3am, couldn’t fall back sleep, got up and read until 4:30, fell back asleep, finally waking/getting up at 6:15.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 7,434 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 6 hours and 11 minutes for a sleep score of 71.

I had coffee with Marcos and updated him on Glenn’s status. Glenn has contact information (601 909-0770) of a rabbi here in Medellin who speaks English. He also gave me estimated costs here for:

·      Cremation - $500

·      Burial (Jewish section of a Catholic cemetery) - $3000

·      Shipping his body back to the States - $20,000

I returned to the apt and Glenn called and informed me he has a brain tumor and is only expected to live another 2 months. He said he wants to be cremated but his brother wants his body shipped back to the States. I sent Carrie an email with the above information.

After lunch I went for a 45-minute nap but just ended up resting my eyes.

I left the apt at 2:15 for Gardenia. They had a screen set up and were showing the opening World Cup match between Mexico and South Africa. Mexico won 2-0. I took a seat inside and started my next chess lesson which was to play 2 games at a 15 minute 10 second time control then analyze them. I won the first game but 1) missed a candidate move, 2) played too fast. I won the second game but missed an early opportunity to win a pawn.

I was finishing up my analysis of the second game when Teresa entered with her friend Lucy. They took a table outside and I packed up and soon joined them. Later Teresa saw two ladies at the next table eating small pulled pork burgers so she ordered them for us. They were very good although I wasn’t a fan of the dark buns. Then the next table ordered oatmeal waffles with berries and Teresa ordered those for us. I paid the bill of 90mil and we left just after 6pm and returned to the apt.

Mr-Santos resigned our game on the 43rd move increasing my rating to 1502.

I watched some news, The Chris Hayes Show, then started my pre-sleep reading.

Wednesday, June 10, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm (still raining), fell asleep quickly, got up once at 12:30, fell back asleep quickly, finally waking at 5:15 and getting up at 6:15.

According to my Fitbit, I got in 5,788 steps yesterday and last night I slept for 6 hours and 22 minutes for a sleep score of 76.

It was a very cool morning so I put on my hiking pants, t-shirt and jacket, left the apt at 9am and took a Didi to El Tesoro for 10,795 pesos. The driver took some backroads I haven’t been on before; he said he was very familiar with the area. I arrived at the mall 35 minutes before my appointment. My usual print station wasn’t open yet so I took a seat nearby. A young lady came by and obviously wanted to use their service also and she took a seat nearby. I mentioned to her they may not open until 10am and I have a doctor’s appointment at that time. She got up and talked to a nearby security guard then told me there is another place we can go. I followed her to the Cine Plaza corner and down to the 4th basement (escalator wasn’t working) where there was an Auros. 😊 There was just one person ahead of her and I soon got my single page PSA test result printed for 700 pesos. I stopped at the atrium and took a few photos of their Jurassic Park.

Up to the 13th floor of Torre Medica 1 I checked in with Dr. Castano’s secretary then took a seat in the main waiting area. I was called in to see the doctor about 10:30 and gave him my PSA result of 0.006. I asked about taking 1000IU of Vitamin D daily and he said it should not be a problem. He congratulated me on being cancer free 5 years after my surgery, gave me a zopiclona prescription good for one year, and did an ultrasound of my abdomen and reported all my organs look good but I have 1 small stone in each kidney. Because I’m now cancer free, I don’t have to return for a year instead of 6 months.

I went down to Valentina’s and had a latte. I sent Teresa a note that I could meet her for lunch in Olivia’s at 12:30. She changed our meeting to Parmessano instead.

At noon I ordered a Didi to take me to Mayorca mall. I thought I requested to be picked up at Entrada #4 by the Mac Center but I was standing outside when he said he arrived and I didn’t see him. After trading a couple texts, I learned he was down the hill by the taxi stand. He took me to Mayorca for 20,900 pesos.

I went up to the 4th floor to Parmessano and Teresa soon joined me. She had her usual salmon with some green juice and I had the spaghetti bolognese with a mango juice for a total of 111,882 pesos ($34).

We went down to the basement and soon were in a taxi back to Envigado. She got out down the hill from the cultural center and I continued on to the apt for 15,400 pesos.

The elevator was under routine maintenance so I had to walk up 4 flights. I dropped off some things, changed my clothes (weather had turned warmer), packed my laptop and headed for Gardenia. Of course, on the way it turned cloudy and windy with thunder as I walked the two blocks to the restaurant.  Luckily, it didn’t turn into rain. The restaurant had a party going on outside on the patio so I took one of 3 inside tables.

I texted Juan and they are waiting to check Glenn in to Clinica Vida which is a cancer hospital. If I understand Juan correctly, they no longer think Glenn has dementia but instead brain cancer and symptoms of the opioids he was taking.

I see my USAA credit card payment was processed. Now I can order our rental car.

I read an article (Popular joint supplement glucosamine linked to faster Alzheimer’s progression) about glucosamine and how it affects the brain; I’ve been taking 1500mg of it for years in my Joint Support tablets. Worse, I still have 2 additional bottles in my closet. I think I’ll be spacing them out instead of taking one every morning.

I left Gardenia just after 5pm and stopped in the Pasteur pharmacy to buy the larger (and easier to cut in half) zopiclona tablets. The girl spent quite a while on the computer, finally came up with a box (first two boxes she gave me were the round ones), took a photo of my doctor’s order, checked it against my cedula and I paid about 28,699 pesos for them. Later I found the box only contained 10 tablets but I should be able to get more my next trip to Todo Drogas in 10 days.

I met Teresa at Eduardo Madrid where she bought a dozen cheese muffins and I had one with a latte. I hope this additional  late latte doesn’t affect my sleep tonight.

We stopped in Tienda D1 and bought a few groceries before returning to the apt.

I watched some news, The Chris Hayes Show then started my pre-sleep reading.
