Last night I went to bed at 11:30, fell asleep quickly, got up once? (not sure), finally waking at 6am and getting up at 6:15.

According to my Fitbit, got in 3,689 steps yesterday and last night slept for 4 hours and 46 minutes for a sleep score of 61, with a sleep efficiency of 90%. ☹

I took a Didi to Urbania mall arriving early enough to walk once around the mall.

The fruit stand wasn’t there so I didn’t get my usual banana.

I met Jose in Parmessano where we had breakfast. Today I brought the last of a bottle of maple syrup and ordered their French toast.

I brought Jose up to date on the Bears’ last 3 wins and their trade for DT Jeffrey Simmons.

We adjourned to the food court where I had the Black pieces in the first game. Jose had agreed to play the first two moves as d4 & e4 so I could practice the Pirc defense. He informed me we’ve been playing this opening for 2 years now so in the future he wants to play whatever opening moves he wants. (Probably something crazy like b4.) I blundered on the 19th move and he checkmated me.

I had the white pieces in the second game and we agreed to a draw on the 34th move.

It was only 1pm when I ordered a Didi to take me to Viva Envigado. I had lunch in Sarku’s then paid our apt rental in Ave Villas (in a rather long line).

Troyclough and Chesswiz98 resigned our latest games increasing my rating to 1564.

Downstairs I had a latte in Urbania for a couple hours then stopped in Exito and bought Coke Zero for Teresa and returned to the apt by taxi.

I tried balancing my checking account for the period which included our trip to Chicago but eventually gave up.

I watched some episodes of Seal Team then the news the rest of the evening. It was fun to watch the Democratic party take the House of Representatives and the Senate from the Trump administration. It was a Blue Tsunami!

I finally went to bed at midnight with the Democrats in a big lead.

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep quickly, got up once at 3:30, finally waking/getting up just before 7am.

According to my Fitbit, got in 7,239 steps yesterday and last night slept for 7 hours and 13 minutes for a sleep score of 81, with a sleep efficiency of 85%. ☹

Today is a holiday here, Dia de los Santos (Day of Saints).

I had a short nap after breakfast. On my way to Smartfit I saw this pair of Guacharacas eating pieces of banana someone had just left out for them.

I found Smartfit busier than usual so I had to wait my turn on a few machines. Today I added 5# to the following machines: Shoulder Press, Back Extension, Bicep Curl, Chest Press, Lat Pulldown, Abdominal Crunch, Seated Row and Triceps Press. I’m now at or close to my personal high for each of these machines. I also completed 10 minutes on the treadmill with a final heartrate of 117bpm. I had some upper thigh discomfort and now ChatGPT suggests I skip the treadmill until my doctor’s appointment.

I had a latte outside Los Porteños for about an hour before returning to the apt.

After lunch Teresa was going to get her hair done but said she was too tired so she had a nap instead.

I hung around the apt and watched more episodes of Seal Team, waiting for the 8:15 start to the Bears vs Seahawks game. This was going to be the first game with our new acquisition, Pro-Bowl DT Jeffrey Simmons.

Because of the time change I knew I wouldn’t be getting to bed until at least 11:15 so I ate my popcorn and drank my soda early.,

The Bears handily defeated last year’s Superbowl champion 34-17. What a game! What a message for the rest of the NFL. (At 6-2 my prediction of 13 wins for the Bears this year is looking pretty good.)

I watched a few minutes of the highlights then went straight to bed (no pre-sleep reading) at 11:30.

Sunday, November 1, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10:30, fell asleep quickly but was up reading from 3am to 4am, finally waking/getting up just before 7am.

According to my Fitbit, got in 6,538 steps yesterday and last night slept for 6 hours and 30 minutes for a sleep score of 70, with a sleep efficiency of 76%. ☹

I took a short nap after breakfast.

We left the apt at 11:15 and took a Didi to Exposiciones station. (MT was still sleeping or at least didn’t answer Teresa’s calls.)

It was a short wait for a bus but it was a small bus so we didn’t get the more comfortable seats in back. There was a young blond standing up near the front doors and outside La Ceja the bus stopped next to what I’ll call a 7-11. The girl went inside but surprisingly the bus didn’t leave. She came out a couple minutes later, reentered the bus and shook her head and the bus continued on. I guess she was doing the bus driver a favor but whatever he wanted I guess they didn’t have.

We arrived in La Ceja 90 minutes after we left Medellin. We walked the 4 blocks up to the park and diagonally across to the other side and up to restaurant Pimento. Teresa ordered the salmon again and I tried the solomito but it wasn’t what I expected.

Still, after removing all the bacon strips, it tasted very good with just a few pieces of unchewable solomito.

I had asked ChatGPT for café suggestions and after I got my bearings we walked past the church and 2 blocks further to Kaperia Café, Calle 22 #20-74.

Teresa let me order the first latte and when it came it was good and hot she then ordered hers. I also ordered a slice of carrot cake to share and it was also good and warm.

We left at 4:15 and walked 4 blocks down the hill to the bus station where we got on a bus just as it was leaving. Not sure why it cost only 13,000 per person to La Ceja but it was 18,200 pp back to Medellin.

We arrived back at the apt by 6pm and I stopped in Ara and bought liquid Fab before returning to the apt.

Photos of last night’s trick or treaters.

Saturday, October 31, 2026

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, felt like I didn’t fall asleep until 2 or 3am, finally waking at 6am and getting up at 7am.

According to my Fitbit, got in 3,904 steps yesterday and last night slept for 5 hours and 2 minutes for a sleep score of 55, with a sleep efficiency of 64%. ☹

Today is Halloween! I’m ready with a bag of 42 fun-size Payday bars I brought from Chicago and another bag of 33 fun-size Snickers and M&Ms I bought here in Dollar City.

My mouse died but putting in a new battery brought it back to life.

Teresa really wanted some saltine crackers for breakfast so I made a quick trip next door to Ara for a package.

I left at 9:15 and walked to the mall. I recycled a few things then went upstairs to the banking area where I found Av Villas bank closed.

In the future I have to remember they aren’t open on Saturdays.

I found a consignacion ATM available and quickly paid the other bills.

I stopped in Exito and bought a large carton of eggs and noticed Victor, one of the Smartfit trainers, walking through the produce section.

I returned to the apt by taxi and took a 40-minute nap.

We left the apt at 12:45 and took a Didi to El Tesoro mall. It was very crowded with lots of clever costumes these photos can’t do justice:

Teresa checked out H&M while I waited outside on a sofa and took more photos.

The usual restaurants had long lines for lunch but we went up to the 2nd floor and found tables available in Al Alma, the restaurant with the same name as the hotel we stayed in earlier this year in Santafe de Antioquia. We had just sat down together on a bench when I looked down and saw a green 100,000-peso bill lying between us. I pointed it out to Teresa because I knew it hadn’t fallen out of my pocket and she quickly scooped it up. Apparently, it didn’t fall out of her pocket either but I don’t know where it came from. It doesn’t seem likely that neither of us saw it when we were sitting down.

We each had their Cuban sandwich (messy to eat) and a juice for 126,300 pesos ($40).

Teresa checked out Zara while I took a seat on a sofa outside.

We finally left at 3:30 and returned to Envigado by taxi for 22,000 pesos.

We stopped in Ara and bought a few things before returning to the apt.

My Internista finally answered my text message and I have an appointment in Clinica Campestre on Monday, November 9th at 3:45pm.

Between 6:10pm and 8:10pm we had 40 trick or treaters and then when we figured it was over for this year, we had a final group at 9pm for a total of 44.

I will include those photos with tomorrow’s posting.
