Last night I only got up once, woke up at 5:30 when Teresa
got up, fell back asleep, and woke/got up at 6:45.
Teresa told me something about John can’t read the contract
so we need to get it translated!? A few
minutes later she informs me that we – with John? Without John? - are all going
to have breakfast at Carbon de Leña
and then he’s going to read – and sign? – the contract. We’re going to leave the apt sometime around
8 to 8:30.
Now I understand we are having breakfast about 8:15 and John
will join us about 9am to go over the contract.
We all left the apt at 8:15, I picked up newspapers on the
way, and we had breakfast at Carbon de
Leña. John joined us for coffee at 9am. He had his
motorcycle helmet with him so now we know how he gets around. He mentioned that last week he bought a Jeep
Willys from the 1960s.
John is from Calgary Canada and he speaks Spanish fluently after
living in the Dominican Republic
for 5 years followed by some years in Colombia
and Ecuador . After ping ponging back and forth between CO
and EC (6 months max each) he made an arrangement with a Colombiana. They got married and he gets residency and
she gets her own business (or part of his?).
He now has his own tourist business in Medellin .
He said Medellin is going through a tourism explosion. He mentioned that there is an activity park,
unknown to most, just 2 miles from the finca.
He discussed with Laura her becoming either a tour guide or scheduling
tours which would be mostly done using Whatsapp on her cellphone.
Teresa and John discussed the rental contract for the finca
and Laura made multiple trips to the copy center to print out copies of the
contract. We finally got everything
right and left. At the notary we got
there just at noon as they closed for an hour for lunch. We walked to La Casita Parilla where we each had a nice lunch with juice. We went to the apt where Teresa made café con
leche. About 2pm we returned to the
notary where we quickly got everything signed and notarized.
When John returns with the cash we will give him the keys to
the finca and they can start moving in their things.
Later Laura told me she’s interested more in being an au
pair than working for John. At least now
I know what her priority is.
Among new US
movie releases, I would like to see Tag
(7.2), Gotti (6.4), Pablo (6.2), and maybe Eating Animals (6.8).
Locally, Ocean’s 8
(6.3) is playing at Oviedo at 4pm and Vizcaya at 1pm and 3:20pm; Please Stand By (6.7) is playing at 1pm
and 3:30 at Oviedo.
Teresa leaves early tomorrow for the finca so I might see Please Stand By (6.7) tomorrow at
Oviedo.
John arrived at 6:30 and he gave us the cash and Teresa gave
him a receipt. I understand she’ll give
him a set of keys when she sees him tomorrow. So now we have a contract for a renter from
July 1st this year through June of 2019. There is a good possibility he might renew
the contract next year or even consider buying.
Teresa and I left the apt at 6:45 and walked down to Home Center
where she bought some building supplies for the finca. We took a taxi back to the apt. Laura left at 8:30 dressed up like she’s got
a hot date.
