My brother gave me all the stuff he brought for me from the
States – 2 bags of Fritos, 2 bags of peanuts, 2 closet lights, 2 packages of
Glide floss, 2 cans of Hornet & Wasp Killer, 4 bars of Lava soap, a set of
4 steak knives and a metal shoehorn.
(Actually he brought me twice as much as I had requested.)
After a nice buffet breakfast a few of us made quick trips
to the Exito in Viva CC.
Across the street at Mall Laureles we all climbed into a van
to go on the Santafe Dia de Sol
tour.
On the way we saw gondolas they
use to carry produce in from the fields, a tunnel that took 5-6 minutes to
drive through, and a famous (not sure why) suspension bridge called Puente de
Occidente.
At the hotel I swam a few lengths in the pool, we had a nice
lunch at the hotel and then we decided to walk around town (Santafe) a
bit. As usual it was hot – maybe upper
90s. I had told everyone to dress
cool. This was the time to dress like a
gringo in sandals, shorts, t-shirts, and sunglasses but my hippy half-sister
wore a shoulder to ankle long-sleeve body suit, skirt, and boots – all in
black. It didn’t take long for her to
start showing signs of heat exhaustion.
We got her into shade and started pumping her with cold drinks and ice
cream.
Back at the hotel we relaxed for a while in hammocks but
since we were the only ones in the van we asked the driver to take us back
early – about 5pm instead of 7pm.
Back at our Laureles hotel we walked down past Parque Laureles #2 to
a restaurant next to McDonald’s named Alicate. Our waiter, Estaban,
spoke good English and was very attentive to our needs. We all enjoyed the food, the service and the
outdoor atmosphere and decided it deserved a 5-star restaurant rating on Trip
Advisor.
