Self-isolation Day 45.

Last night I went to bed at 10:30, fell asleep quickly, got up 3 times during the night but quickly fell back asleep each time, finally waking at 6:30 and getting up at 7:45.

Today is International Workers Day or as they would call it in the US - Labor Day.

Yesterday the US intelligence community ruled out a COVID-19 theory that the virus was "manmade or genetically modified." There've been a few theories floating around about the coronavirus's origin, including that it was purposely created in a Chinese lab. But scientists say there's no evidence of tampering in the virus's DNA. And believe it jumped from animals to humans, aka how SARS and Ebola originated. Yesterday, the intel community sided with the scientists.

I watched Chapter 6 – First come first served of IM Mat Kolosowski’s Attacking Masterclass video training.

Teresa ordered a few groceries and I went down to the porteria to pay for them.

Trump blamed his predecessor, former President Barack Obama, on Thursday for leaving him with faulty tests for coronavirus infections.  “The last administration left us nothing,” Trump said. “We started off with bad, broken tests and obsolete tests.”  But Obama left office in 2017 and COVID-19 didn’t exist until last year.

As many states move toward reopening after a horrific April that saw nearly 60,000 deaths because of the coronavirus, a new report offers a stark warning: A group of experts has concluded the pandemic could last as long as two years, until 60% to 70% of the population is immune.

On March 1st the US only had 2 deaths, on April 1st the total was 4,808 deaths, and now on May 1st the total is 63,512 deaths.

It’s been four months since “Wuhan unexplained pneumonia” first appeared on the popular health alert service ProMED-mail, the first public warning that the novel coronavirus had begun its deadly rampage.  Now, it wasn’t your job or my job to pay attention to this, but it was somebody’s job.  It should have been taken seriously before mid-March.  We needed to act quickly to contain the spread.  You don’t solve a problem by ignoring it and saying it will go away.

Today I finally got a winning streak going and won 3 out of 4 against Teresa in Parcheesi.

At 9:30 someone in the neighborhood started playing an accordion. Ten minutes later he started singing.  The former sounded pretty good, maybe too good so it might have been a recording but the singing was awful.  Luckily, both stopped ten minutes later.

Per Medellin Guru, as of this afternoon Colombia has a total of 7,006 cases with 314 deaths.  Medellin has 309 cases, 4 more than yesterday.  That sounds close to contained.  We'll see how things go in the next week or so.

Joke of the day

A wife went to the police station with her next-door neighbor to report that her husband was missing.

The policeman asked for a description.

She said, "He's 35 years old, 6 foot 4, has dark eyes, dark wavy hair, an athletic build, weighs 185 pounds, is soft-spoken, and is good to the children."

The next-door neighbor immediately saw a problem with this and began to protest:  "Your husband is 5 foot 4, chubby, bald, has a big mouth, and is mean to your children."

The wife replied, "Yes, but who wants HIM back?"
