Self-isolation Day 55.
Last night I went to bed at 10:45, fell asleep quickly, got up once during the night, waking/getting up just before 6am.
We left the apt at 7:30 and, since there was little traffic, arrived at Dr. Rendon’s office in El Tesoro 10 minutes before my appointment. His wife served as his assistant and they both put on special all-white uniforms that covered them completely. They gave me a “hood” which I put on before moving my facemask down to my chin. He cleaned my teeth very thoroughly. He told me they bought N95 face masks but they turned out to be fake. I told him I had almost a full box that I could give him. Teresa then had her teeth cleaned and the total came to 350mil. Teresa has to return for some dental work on Wednesday so I’ll have her bring the masks with her.
We went to Carulla where we picked up some needed groceries. They had a Baloto kiosk and I tried to pay the cellphone bills but I understand just the cellphone numbers isn’t enough, they need the account numbers.
We wheeled our shopping cart out to the taxi and loaded everything in his trunk. Inside the taxi they had hard plastic separating the driver from the passengers.
We were back at the apt before 11am.
About 11:30 there was a knock on our door. A man gave Teresa a booklet and she signed a slip of paper. I thought she was buying a raffle ticket but he gave her money. When I saw it was 90mil I realized it was our parking rental payment for the month.
I left the apt at 2:30 and walked to the mall. I recycled a AA battery and paid for our cellphones at the Baloto kiosk outside Exito.
I watched more episodes of season 2 of Designated Survivor.
In a 60 Minutes segment on Sunday night, CBS News correspondent Scott Pelley reported that a "political disinformation campaign" that leads back to Gaetz killed critical research funding for a New York-based nonprofit called EcoHealth Alliance, which for decades has traced the origins of infectious diseases in an effort to prevent pandemics.
US coronavirus crisis could be over by the end of JULY, experts predict - but relaxing lockdowns and closures by 40% could extend the outbreak through August.
Public health officials closed a restaurant in Castle Rock, Colo., on Monday, one day after its owner hosted a Mother's Day event in which the entire dining room was open to seat customers — most of whom weren't wearing face masks.
According to White House senior
adviser Kevin Hassett's model,
there will be zero deaths in the U.S. from the disease by May 15. The Trump
administration has reportedly been relying on Hassett's predictive model, among
others, to make determinations on reopening. Hassett isn't an epidemiologist,
nor does he have a background in public health. He's an economist and formerly
served as the chair for the Council of Economic Advisers to the president. And,
as he told CBS's Face the Nation Sunday, the pandemic
has him scared to go enter the White House.
Now: "It is scary to go to work," he said, adding,
"I think that I'd be a lot safer if I was sitting at home instead of going
to the West Wing. But, you know, it's a time when people have to step up and
serve their country." Hassett also said that he practices "aggressive
social distancing" and will "wear a mask when I feel it's
necessary."
Philip Rucker of the Washington Post asked, during a news
conference that was ostensibly about the coronavirus “In one of your Mother’s
Day tweets, you appeared to accuse President Obama of ‘the biggest political
crime in American history, by far’ — those were your words. What crime exactly
are you accusing President Obama of committing, and do you believe the Justice
Department should prosecute him?”
Trump: “Uh, Obamagate. It’s been going on for a long time,” he
began. “It’s been going on from before I even got elected, and it’s a disgrace
that it happened, and if you look at what’s gone on, and if you look at now,
all this information that’s being released — and from what I understand, that’s
only the beginning — some terrible things happened, and it should never be
allowed to happen in our country again.”
“Next Tuesday is Election Day. Next Tuesday all of you will go to the polls, will stand there in the polling place and make a decision. I think when you make that decision, it might be well if you would ask yourself, are you better off than you were four years ago? Is it easier for you to go and buy things in the stores than it was four years ago? Is there more or less unemployment in the country than there was four years ago? Is America as respected throughout the world as it was? Do you feel that our security is as safe, that we’re as strong as we were four years ago?” Ronald Reagan, 1980.
The US has 1,352,662 coronavirus cases with 80,478 deaths.
Per Medellin Guru, as of this afternoon Colombia has a total of 11,613 cases with 479 deaths. Medellin has 303 cases, an increase of 2 from May 9th to 10th.
Joke of the day
A married
man decided to work late to be with his young secretary, so he called his wife
to make up an excuse.
After work,
he invited his secretary to dinner.
It soon
became obvious that he was going to get lucky, so the two went back to her
apartment and had sex for two hours.
Afterward,
the fellow went to the bathroom to straighten up for the trip home and noticed
a huge hickey on his neck.
He panicked,
wondering what he was going to tell his wife.
After the man
unlocked his front door, his dog came bounding to greet him.
Aha, the man
thought, and promptly fell to the carpet, pretending to fight off the
affectionate animal.
Holding his
neck with one hand, he said, "Honey, look what the dog did to my neck!"
"Hell,
that's nothing" she answered, ripping open her blouse.
"Look what he did to my
breasts!"
The Reagan quote is entirely out of context to today. Fall of 2019 the answer to all of it's questions were in the affirmative. The disease is not the fault of the President and it can be debated that the Congress, Governors and local municipal leaders all across these United States are all hugely responsible as well.
ReplyDeleteHad there been an election in 1918 would this quote have been an indictment against Wilson?
P.S. to the earlier comment. I wish not harm on any including those with a different view or opinion than mine. Leaders, Doctors, Scientists and media have different opinions but it only when there cannot be a civil discussion that there is a huge problem. I see this problem on both sides of the proverbial aisle.
ReplyDeleteThe Reagan quote is out of context only because you want it to be. Of course Trump didn't CAUSE the disease, that's just more distraction. Trump’s fault in handling the coronavirus is more an act of omission than commission. His stupidity and inaction (indifference? uninterest?) in addressing the coronavirus wasted time necessary to combat the pandemic. I submit the following in evidence:
ReplyDelete1. Read John M. Barry’s The Great Influenza. (To save YOU time you can skip to part IV and continue from there.)
2. Mitt Romney yesterday: “I understand that politicians are going to frame data in a way most positive politically because they expect that from admirals but yesterday you [Trump] celebrated we had done more tests per capita than South Korea but ignored fact that they accomplished theirs at the beginning of the outbreak and we treaded water in February and March and as a result by March 6th the U.S. had completed just 2,000 tests, whereas South Korea had conducted more than 140,000 tests, so partially as a result of that they have 256 deaths and we have almost 80,000 deaths. I find our testing record nothing to celebrate whatsoever.”
I find the entire political section of the exactly that, political, with an agenda that causes a lack of seeing the picture in it's entirety. Were mistake and miscalculations made of course. The inability to see the culpability of others involved in the current situation only makes a person seem bent a biased agenda. The Govenors, Congress , local munisipal leaders and even those in medical fields AL share a part in the times we are in. The balance between panic and intelligent actions needs to be the approach. Regardless of the actions taken people would have become sick and unfortunately some will succumb. To Monday morning quarterback the events is clearly driven by something other than a wish for the best of the country and those involved. The old saying goes"If you're not part of the solution then you're part of the problem." Could I ask hoe many letters, e-mail or other correspondences you have sent to Congressional leaders, municipal leaders or other government officials holding them accountable and expressing your concerns and even opinion of the path forward? It is easy to sit back with all the time we currently have free and complain but as President Theodor Roosevelt once said " To complain without offering a solution is whining."
