Self-isolation Day 58.
Last night I went to bed at 10:30,
fell asleep quickly, got up twice during the night, finally waking/getting up
at 7:30.
Biden: "I would trust the guy who's one of our nation's top public health experts [Fauci], not the one who pondered injecting disinfectant into the body and looked directly at a solar eclipse."
Almost 3,000,000 US workers filed for unemployment last week bringing the 2-month jobless total to 36,000,000.
From the Today show:
· 85,000
US deaths from the coronavirus.
· Governors
call on congress to act on state fiscal relief. “Each day that Congress fails
to act, states are being forced to make cuts that will devastate the essential
services the American people rely on and destroy the economic recovery before
it even gets off the ground.”
· Ousted
vaccine chief set to testify today. Will warn we’re facing “darkest winter in
modern history.”
The NY Times had an arcticle on what if we got a Covid-19 vaccine and half the country refused to take it? Social media is already filling up with questionable claims about a shot for Covid-19 that doesn’t even exist.
A new poll released Tuesday shows that Joe Biden is extending his national lead over Donald Trump as the president is sliding back into dangerous territory for an incumbent. According to Reuters/Ipsos, the former vice president is beating Trump by eight points nationally, 46 percent to 38 percent. Biden’s lead is a considerable jump from last week when the same poll showed him ahead of Trump by just two points, 43 percent to 41 percent.
United States now
projected to suffer 147,000 coronavirus deaths by August.
Rick Bright, a career government
scientist-turned-whistleblower, told a congressional panel Thursday:
·
the Department of Heath and Human Services “did not respond”
when he raised concerns about shortages of medical materials such as N95 masks
and testing supplies, prompting Bright to reach out to a White House adviser.
· without a stronger federal response, the coronavirus threatens to
make 2020 the "darkest winter in modern history."
Dr. Rendon stopped by and I gave him a box of 15-16 N94 facemasks.
5 takeaways from coronavirus whistleblower Rick Bright’s testimony today before Congress.
1. ‘Lives were lost’ because of ‘inaction,' unheeded warnings.
2. Administration pushed vastly expanded use of unproven drugs.
3. Pessimism about 12- to 18-month timeline for vaccine.
4. We don’t have ‘a single point of leadership’ or ‘master plan’.
5. Azar, Republicans cast Bright as a malcontent skipping work.

Guess which country is now #2 in coronavirus cases?

Joke of the day
A sweet
grandmother telephoned St. Joseph's Hospital and she timidly asked, "Is it
possible to speak to someone who can tell me how a patient is doing?"
The operator
responded, "I'll be glad to help, dear. What's the patient's name and room
number?"
The
grandmother in her weak tremulous voice said, "Norma Findlay, Room
302."
The operator
replied, "Let me place you on hold while I check with her nurse."
After a few minutes
the operator returned to the phone.
"Oh,
good news. Her nurse has told me that Norma is doing very well. Her blood
pressure is fine; her blood work just came back as normal. And her physician, Dr.
Cohen, has scheduled her to be discharged Tuesday."
The
grandmother said, "Thank you. That's wonderful. I was so worried! God
bless you for the good news."
The operator
replied, "You're more than welcome. Is Norma your daughter?"
The grandmother said, "No, I'm
Norma Findlay in Room 302. No one tells me anything."
