Self-isolation Day 61.

Last night I went to bed at 10:30pm, fell asleep quickly, got up once during the night, finally waking/getting up at 7am.

Some Republican lawmakers are raising objections to President Trump’s decision to fire State Department Inspector General Steve Linick, arguing that he didn’t give Congress a sufficient justification for the removal. The lawmakers pointed to a 2008 law that requires a president to detail the reasons for removing an inspector general.

Authorities are not seeing spikes in coronavirus cases in places that are reopening but are seeing increases in some areas that remain closed, U.S. health secretary Alex Azar said on Sunday.

Teresa asked me again about Luz Maria renting one of our bedrooms. I told her we had this discussion months ago so what has changed. Apparently she’s bored living with her sister and something about her having to clean too much. We agreed on charging her 500mil per month with utilities included.

Per the Washington Post:

·      Nursing homes across the country have been ordered to report the number of coronavirus infections and deaths on their premises by midnight Sunday.

·      Some economists are optimistic that the worst of the coronavirus recession (or depression) is behind us.

·      President Trump has dubbed the latest phase of pandemic response the “transition to greatness.”

Health workers took a stand against Belgium’s prime minister on the weekend, quite literally turning their backs in protest as she visited a hospital in Brussels.

Billionaire Mark Cuban tweeted a thread today calling for the federal government to train and hire millions of Americans as coronavirus contact tracers in order to "dent unemployment with stable jobs."

Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar suggested that the underlying health conditions of Americans, in particular in minority communities, contributed significantly to the death toll from the coronavirus.

Teresa talked to the doorman and learned that no one is allowed inside the complex during the quarantine so Luz Maria won’t be joining us anytime soon.

And a Trump replay from January 27th: Joe Grogan, head of the White House Domestic Policy Council warns that “dealing with the virus was likely to dominate life in the United States for many months.”  Trump is dismissive “because he did not believe that the virus had spread widely throughout the United States”.

The US has 1,446,012 ð 1,474,321  ð 1,484,482 coronavirus cases with 87,181 ð 88,658 ð 89,123 deaths.

Per Medellin Guru, as of this afternoon Colombia has a total of 14,216 ð 14,939 ð 15,574 cases with 574 deaths.  Medellin has 329 ð 342 ð 350 cases, an increase of 8 from May 16th to 17th

Joke of the day

A man had to attend a large convention in Chicago. For this particular trip, he decided to bring his wife. When they arrived at their hotel and were shown to their room, the man said: "You rest here while I register - I'll be back within an hour."

So, his wife lies down on the bed...and just then, an elevated train passes by very close to the window and shakes the room so hard she's thrown out of the bed. Thinking this must be a freak occurrence, she lies down once more. Again a train shakes the room so violently, she's pitched to the floor.

Exasperated, she calls the front desk, asks for the manager. The manager says he'll be right up. The manager (naturally) is skeptical but the wife insists the story is true.

"Look, lie here on the bed - you'll be thrown right to the floor!"

So he lies down next to the wife... Just then the husband walks in. "What," he says in an ominous tone, "are you doing here?"

The manager replies: "Would you believe I'm waiting for a train?"
