Friday, July 12, 2024

Last night I went to bed at 10pm, got up once at 3:30, finally waking/getting up at 7am.

Tersa wants to go to some type of an art faire in Plaza Mayor. So, right after lunch we’ll take a car there. I found Expoartesano on Facebook and showed Teresa the photos. It looks the same as last time we were there but she thinks it’s something new.

I was planning on going to Los Porteños but instead I fell asleep on the recliner and slept from 9:15 to 10:30.

I gave up watching season 2 of 21 – too much buffering. I started a new series The Night Agent (7.3) and watched the first 4 episodes with no buffering.

Well, we never made it to Plaza Mayor, maybe tomorrow after breakfast – 10am opening.

We had a shower star about 5:30pm but it stopped long before we went to bed.

Thursday, July 11, 2024

Last night I went to bed at 9:45, got up once at 6am, finally waking/getting up at 8am.

At noon I ordered an Uber and our driver was there before us but he was on the other side of the street. I’m tired of chasing after them so I texted him we’re on the other side of the street. He drove across the street and when I got in and found he spoke good English I questioned why they always stop on the other side. He explained how Uber’s mapping isn’t as good as Waze or Google Maps. Manuel’s originally from Belize and lives nearby with his Colombian wife and 2 children but they lived in South Carolina for 10 years.

In El Tesoro we went straight to Valentina’s where we each had a latte and shared a chicken sandwich. Teresa thought she saw a friend at the entrance so when she walked away Teresa called her and she returned. Her name is Vicky (we needed another Vicky ) and they talked for a while then she had to leave for a doctor’s appointment. The check was 55,722 pesos.

Teresa found a nice pair of walking shoes in Skechers for 389,900 pesos ($98).

We were hanging out on a sofa just passing time. Dr. Carolina walked nearby and we waved to each other. This little girl sat nearby with a cotton candy almost as big as she was:

Vicky came by again and we invited her for coffee.

We took a table outside the café this time: I had a latte, Teresa had an aromatica (fancy tea) and Vicky had an Americano for 31,685 pesos.

They said goodbye and we went down to Carulla for a few groceries. I overheard 3 young men from India (Indians?) asking a worker for beer. I said, “cerveza”, at the same time as one of the others who must have translated it. Our groceries cost 137,512 pesos and instead of plastic bags they were selling those large bags. We certainly didn’t need another one to add to our “collection” so Teresa took her shoes out of the fancy bag and we packed our groceries in it.

We quickly caught a taxi back to the apt for 18mil.

I completed another lesson of my Noel Studer chess course.

I watched the Biden press conference and question and answer period on MSNBC.

Wednesday, July 10, 2024

Last night I went to bed at 9:45, got up once at 6am, finally waking/getting up at 7:45.

Troyclough resigned our latest game increasing my rating to 1607.

Other than about an hour for breakfast I was back in bed until noon.

Feeling much better especially after taking a shower.

Thankfully, Teresa didn’t try going to her afternoon arts crafts. The ladies will thank her.

Tomorrow after breakfast Teresa wants us to go to El Tesoro mall. I’m guessing it’s more from a need to get out than a need to buy something there.

Lunch was leftovers from last night. The amount of food in my order could have easily been divided into 3 meals for me.

ONEIPAMETATO1453 resigned our latest game increasing my rating to 1612.

At 7:30 I remembered and turned on Fox Sports to the Copa America match. Colombia scored to go up 1-0 vs Uruguay but they soon lost a player due to a vicious illegal elbow. They played the entire second half with only 10 players but managed to keep Uruguay from scoring to win 1-0. So, Sunday at 6pm they play an always tough Argentina for the America’s Cup.

I finished reading Lee Child’s Tripwire: Jack Reacher #3. Now it’s time to read something non-fiction.

Tuesday, July 9, 2024

Last night I went to bed at 9:30, got up once at 4:30, finally waking/getting up at 6:45.

Feeling a little stronger today but of course I’m not meeting Jose for chess.

Teresa got up at 7:30 and started making me breakfast. She surprised me when she said she wants to get out today. Not sure she’s strong enough and she’ll just be sharing the virus with others.

After breakfast I returned to bed and slept from 8:30 to 10:15.

I had another nap from 2:30 to 3:30.

For supper we had food delivered from Chiclayo for 115mil pesos.

Monday, July 8, 2024

Last night I went to bed at 9:30, got up once at 6am, finally waking/getting up at 7am.

It’s been months (years?) since phlegm was an issue but now it’s back.

For breakfast I had my usual scrambled eggs with half a bagel but no coffee.

Feeling very weak as I haven’t eaten anything of consequence the past 3 days. Teresa has a bad cough and I suggested she call a pharmacy and have something delivered to deal with that symptom but that suggestion fell on deaf ears.

I checkmated ONEIPAMETATO1453 in 50 moves, increasing my rating to 1603. I’m there again, we’ll see how long I can stay there.

We’re down to our last egg, half a bag of milk, and 2 rolls of toilet paper so its time to take some drastic measures.

I took my first shower since when? Thursday? Friday? Not sure but it did feel nice to get clean again.

At 11:45 I took a Didi to the mall and stopped at the pharmacy to buy another box of Advil. My mouth was so dry I could barely get the words out. The lady showed me Advil Max and Advil Ultra. While I was trying to decide if Ultra could be stronger than Max I asked if they have an Advil for Colds. She brought me a box of Advil Grippa which I purchased for about 30mil.

I took a small cart and picked up a large carton of eggs and large package of toilet paper. In the dairy aisle I was surprised the only milk they had was entera (whole milk) so I took one. I picked up a bag of lemons (we call them limes) and got in a short checkout line. When I asked for a bag for the milk and lemons it was a small paper grocery bag. I asked if they no longer have plastic bags but of course I didn’t completely understand the answer. Maybe they are no longer allowed as of July 1st? Time will tell.

Outside I quickly caught a taxi back to the apt.

I finished the 1st season of 24. The ending had enough surprises I decided to start the 2nd season.

Saturday, July 6, 2024

Well, all day we’re in an out of bed; more in than out.

I watched another episode of 24.

Teresa tried several times to get me to eat some soup or drink some hot lemonade but I just wasn’t interested.

I must have slept 20 out of the 24 hours.
