Self-isolation Day 110.
Last night I went to
bed at 10:30, fell asleep quickly, got up once at 4am, took a little while to
fall back asleep, finally waking at 6:30 and getting up at 7.
Last night I played 4 games
on Chess.com, winning 2 and losing 2. My new rating is 1276.
Teresa left at 7:30 for
her walk.
Around 7:30 Teresa
called her girlfriends but no one wanted to walk with her because its raining.
It’s only a light drizzle but I don’t want to walk in this weather either.
It’s 11am and my
balcony thermometer says its only 68 degrees.
It’s not a good day for
my back – tight and sore. It didn’t loosen up until lunchtime.
Teresa killed me in
parcheesi today – 6 games to 1.
Teresa’s friend, Luz Maria’
sister, passed away yesterday from cancer.
Medellín
Mayor Daniel Quintero announced new COVID-19 preventive measure including a dry
law every weekend in Medellín and a curfew on holidays to help contain the pandemic.
The United States — with just 4 percent of the world’s population —
accounts for 25% of the world’s coronavirus cases and deaths.
(CNN)As the nation marked a
somber Fourth of July with many Americans confined to their homes amid
an alarming rise in coronavirus cases, President Donald Trump used his stage on the White House's South Lawn Saturday to put
forward a mystifying -- and dangerously misleading claim -- that 99% of coronavirus
cases in America are "totally harmless."
Texas saw 8,258 new confirmed
cases of the coronavirus Saturday and an additional 238 people who are
hospitalized with the virus — the highest numbers in both categories to date.
Florida surpassed 200,000
coronavirus cases as the state reported another 10,059 new positives on Sunday.
The state has reported more than 10,000 new cases for a fourth straight day as
the country sees another surge in the
pandemic. Florida is among 11 states where numbers have spiked, at least
doubling over the past two weeks.
Houston's mayor says its hospitals could run out of beds in two weeks. In Arizona, close to a quarter of all tests are coming back positive –
reportedly three times the national average. And the state has already reached
about 90% capacity for its ICU beds. Meanwhile, VP Mike Pence has called on everyone to wear masks. And
governors of at least 20 states have mandated it. But while part of the
Trump admin is on board, in a July 4th speech, President Trump claimed that 99% of COVID-19 cases are "totally
harmless." FDA Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn, a member of the White House
coronavirus task force, refused to weigh in. But he did stand behind the CDC stats – which estimate that 35% of cases are asymptomatic. And that people with mild or no
symptoms could still spread the virus.
The Washington Redskins and Cleveland
Indians. After national calls for social justice, both teams said
they were considering changing their names – which many have called offensive
to Native Americans.
A Trump replay
from April 12th: Dr. Anthony Fauci said
on CNN's "State of the Union" that "no one is going to
deny" that more lives could have been saved during the coronavirus crisis
if the Trump administration had implemented social distancing guidelines prior
to March.
The
US has 2,805,992 ð 2,857,567 ð 2,902,359 coronavirus cases
with 129,351 ð 129,567 ð 129,889 deaths. (Total cases in the
US are still increasing.)
Per
Medellin Guru, as of this afternoon Colombia has a total of 109,505 ð 113,389 ð 117,110 cases with 4,064 deaths. Medellin has 2,377 ð 2,522 ð 2,764 cases, an increase of 242 from July
3rd to July 4th. Colombia’s rolling 6-day average of new
cases has increased. Envigado has a total of 120 cases, an increase of 12 from July
3rd to July 4th.
Joke of
the day
While attending a Marriage Weekend,
Frank and his wife Ann listened to the instructor declare, "It is
essential that husbands and wives know the things that are important to each
other."
He then addressed the men. "Can
you name and describe your wife's favorite flower?"
Frank leaned over, touched Ann's
arm gently, and whispered, "Gold Medal-All-Purpose, isn't it?"
And thus began Frank's like of
celibacy.
