Last night I took my Diphenhydramine and Zopiclona tablets and went to bed at 10pm. Right then a dog started barking nonstop – bark, pause, bark, pause, bark, pause, for 20 minutes until I fell asleep, finally waking/getting up at 5:30.
Teresa got up at 6:30 and the pigeons are back.
After breakfast I returned to bed and slept for another
hour.
I checked my blog for Juan Cardona but the only reference I
saw was from 2018 when I gave him Juan Castro’s contact information for
possible English lessons.
I took a Didi to Unicentro mall for 15,200 pesos and the
driver, who didn’t speak English, showed me an email from US Immigration. It
included a link for more information and he had to use his name and birthdate
to access it. He explained he has a wife and children in Miami and he wants to
visit them. (Good luck with that.)
I arrived at Todo Fresa a few minutes before 10am and
Juan was already there. He invited me to join him for breakfast and he’s buying
but I explained I already had breakfast hours ago so I just had a latte. I
learned: 1) his mother used to be on all sorts of sleep medications but now all
she needs is a specific vitamin (I asked him to text me the name of the
vitamin). 2) he had kidney stones and during the procedure he was in so much
pain they gave him morphine ☹ 3)
he purchased an apt in a new building then Covid-19 hit and when construction started
up again they said they no longer had money for materials and every apt owner
had to kick in more money. It’s just now complete and he’s going to be moving
in soon.
I left at 11:30 and took a Didi to Pricesmart in El
Poblado. First I had a slice of pepperoni pizza with a Coke for 14,400 pesos in
a busy cafeteria but luckily got a table. I went looking for things they didn’t
have in Belen but all I found was olive oil for 74,900 pesos ($20) – no
Bisquick, no Johnsonville breakfast sausage, no eggs (at least our favorite
brand) and no turkey breast. Incredible!
After a 15-minute wait I returned to the apt by taxi.
Teresa was still out getting her hair done so I went to Gardenia
for a latte. I texted Teresa letting her know where I was.
I won a game against Troyclough increasing my rating to
1545.
She arrived about an hour later and ordered a latte and
their fruit cup with a scoop of ice cream. She had a little bit of it and I had
to finish the rest.
At 5pm, as we were leaving, Teresa pointed out the apt complex next door. For some reason she walked past the porteria to the next one and inquired about rentals. She was told they were between 4,000,000 – 4,500,000 pesos for a 3 bedroom.
We continued on and we stopped across the street (north) of
our complex and inquired at Orense. The portero said a 2-bedroom was
2,600,000 pesos (that’s less than we’re paying now) and Teresa reported the
kitchen is nicer/bigger than ours. We’re under contract so there’s nothing we
can do until next summer (if they have something available).
We returned to the apt and I finished watching The Little
Things on Netflix.
We had rain in the evening and by 8pm it became a downpour –
probably more flooding for Medellin. ☹
My step counter recorded 3,275 steps today.
It was still raining when I went to bed at 10pm.
FUNNY

Pricemart say more turkeys in a couple of weeks. Some Carullas have them, both the Butterball breasts and whole ones. Given the price of beef in Colombia now, in particular imported US beef, they are an attractive buy for expats.
