Quarantine Day 136.

Last night I played 4 games on Chess.com, winning 1 and losing 3. My new rating is 1225. The first game was even when I lost on time.

Last night I went to bed at 10:30pm, got up twice during the night, finally waking/getting up at 8:15.

I had 2-hour chess lesson with Juan Castro from 2-4 this afternoon.

Yesterday, the Commerce Department said the GDP (the value of goods and services produced in a certain time frame) shrank 9.5% in the second quarter of 2020 – the greatest drop ever. Analysts are pointing the finger at COVID-19 and things like stay-at-home orders and concerns over safety shuttering businesses and slowing the economy. There was some good news: personal income was much higher, in part thanks to federal stimulus checks. But the Fed chair is saying the US can't recover from the economic fall until the pandemic is under control.

An organization that successfully proved President Donald Trump violated the law when he blocked Twitter critics sued him anew on Friday, saying he continues to reject some accounts two years after losing in court.

The Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University sued Trump a second time in Manhattan federal court over use of his @realDonaldTrump Twitter account, saying the president and his staff continue to block some accounts.

Some individuals identified in a lawsuit filed in 2017, along with dozens of others who were blocked on the basis of viewpoint, have been unblocked, the lawsuit said.

The Trump campaign temporarily paused TV ad spending as it undergoes a "review and fine-tuning of the campaign's strategy," according to a Trump campaign official. The re-evaluation under new campaign manager Bill Stepien does not extend to digital advertising.

The authorities said on Friday that a Florida teenager was the “mastermind” of a recent high-profile hack of 130 Twitter accounts, including the accounts of celebrities like former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and the Silicon Valley mogul Elon Musk.

Graham Ivan Clark, 17, was arrested in his Tampa home early Friday, state officials said. He is believed to be the linchpin of a hack that turned into an embarrassment for Twitter and called into question the security measures of a range of tech companies. Two other people were also charged with taking part in the hack.

The general consensus on children and the novel coronavirus is that they neither play as large a role in spreading it as adults, nor do they contract the disease as often.

But new research says children younger than 5 years old can hoard up to 100 times more of the virus in their noses than older children and adults, suggesting kids could be a significant driver of viral spread.

The researchers said understanding transmission potential in children could help guide public health decisions surrounding school and daycare reopenings scheduled to occur in the coming weeks.

The study was published Thursday in the journal JAMA Pediatrics.

In the span of a few months, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has gone from one of the most admired state leaders in America to one of the most disparaged, with an approval rating that has dropped precipitously as coronavirus cases surged.

A pair of recent polls indicate more Floridians now disapprove of the job DeSantis is doing than approve. The latest was released Friday by Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy. It shows that 49% of Florida voters disapprove of the governor’s job performance, compared with 45% who approve.

That’s a 17 percentage point drop from the 62% of Florida voters who approved of DeSantis in a Mason-Dixon poll from last year.

The stunning turnaround is another example of how politicians often are defined by how they respond in a crisis, and many people are taking a dim view of how Florida’s Republican chief executive has handled the latest phase of the coronavirus outbreak.

DeSantis has been accused of standing by and doing little to halt the march of the virus in his state, allowing Florida to become a global hotspot.

Today I beat Teresa in parcheesi 7 games to 6. It’s amazing how many games are decided by the last throw of the dice.

At 6pm we ordered ribs from Mu. I was surprised how quickly they arrived. They are packing them better so they are still hot, just not quite as hot when they come directly to your table. Here’s a breakdown of the charge:

MIL

77 – ribs

5 – Coca Cola

12 – delivery

2 – packing charge

96 – total

I gave the delivery guy 100mil so he got an extra 4 mil tip out of it.

Teresa ate 1 ½ ribs and I ate 2 ½ and we have lots left over for the rest of the weekend. They also come with lots of fries but we usually eat most of them the first sitting because they aren’t good warmed up.

I received an email from Envios Market asking if they can deliver a package to me tomorrow. I think it must be the Joint Support supplements I ordered 2 weeks ago.

The US has 4,435,387 ð 4,499,833 ð 4,559,720 coronavirus cases with 151,100+ ð 152,300+ ð 153,600+ deaths.

Per Medellin Guru, as of this afternoon Colombia has a total of 276,055 ð 286,020 ð 295,508 cases with 10,105 deaths.  Medellin has 16,360  ð 17,205 ð 18,123 cases, an increase of 1,097 from July 30th to 31st. Envigado has a total of 1,048 cases, an increase of 74 from July 30th to 31st.

Joke of the day

A retired man went into the Job Center in downtown Toronto and saw a card advertising for a Gynecologist's Assistant.

Interested, he went in and asked the clerk for details.

The clerk pulled up the file and read; "The job entails getting the ladies ready for the gynecologist. You have to help the women out of their underwear, lay them down and carefully wash their private regions, then apply shaving foam and gently shave off the hair, then rub in soothing oils so they're ready for the gynecologist's examination.

The annual salary is $65,000, and if you are interested ..... you'll have to go to Sudbury, Ontario."

"Good grief", the man asked, that's 270 miles away, "Is that where the job is?"

“No sir…that’s where the end of the line is right now.”
