Quarantine Day #152.

Last night I went to bed at 10:45pm and quickly fell asleep. I got up once during the night and again at 6am, finally getting up at 7:45. We’re getting a light rain already this morning.

Last night I played 4 games on Chess.com, winning 2 and losing 2. The 3rd game was most interesting. I had an opportunity to make a strong move, missed it and I soon gave away my bishop.  A little later he blundered a knight and I was back in the game. We soon both got into time trouble and I picked up another piece and I had 3 passed pawns but I lost on time.

In Florida, it’s the best of times and the worst of times, depending on who you ask. Some may also say it’s the age of foolishness—with the number of Floridians opting not to wear face masks during the coronavirus pandemic. As of today, more than 9,100 Florida residents have died after contracting COVID-19. That's a fraction of the 557,000 Floridians who have tested positive for the virus since the start of the pandemic.

Despite those statistics, Floridians disagree about wearing masks in public, wanting to reopen classrooms for in-person learning, and kickstarting sports—most notably college football.

Less than a week into the start of classes, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill announced a fourth cluster of Covid-19 cases on campus.

The clusters illustrate the challenges of reopening schools and bringing people into close proximity while Covid-19 continues to spread widely through the state and country. North Carolina has a seven-day average of about 1,200 new coronavirus cases per day, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

The Trump campaign held a training session for campaign volunteers in Pennsylvania that only had two people sign up, and they both canceled.

Teresa killed me in parcheesi today 6 games to 0.

The US has 5,306,151 ð 5,346,412 ð 5,389,740 coronavirus cases with 168,100+ ð 168,900+ ð 169,600+ deaths.

Per Medellin Guru, as of this afternoon Colombia has a total of 445,111 ð 456,689 ð 468,332 cases with 15,097 deaths.  Medellin has 33,551 ð 34,513 ð 35,412 cases, an increase of 864 from August 15th to 16th. Envigado has a total of 1,929 cases, an increase of 39 from August 15th to 16th.

Joke of the day

In 1900, a father gave a pencil box for Christmas, and the child was all smiles.
Today, a father spends $800 at Toys 'R' Us, and the kid says, "But I wanted an X-box!"
