Quarantine Day #158.
Last night I went to bed at 10:45, fell asleep quickly,
got up once at 5am, heard it raining at 6:30 finally waking/getting up at 8am.
Last night I played 4 games on Chess.com, winning 2
and losing 2. In the first game I was able to play the Dutch Defense. I was up
3 pawns in the endgame and about to queen a pawn when I lost on time. In the 2nd
game I had the white pieces and played the London System and checkmated my
opponent in 51 moves. In the 3rd game I had the black pieces and
played the Dutch Defense again. I was up a rook and a knight in the endgame but
lost on time. In the 4th game I finally was able to play the Sicilian
Defense and I checkmated him on the 29th move. Not bad considering I
had the black pieces in 3 of the games.
My new rating is 1215.
I left for my 1-hour walk at 9am. I saw 3 roosters in
the yard of a childcare center a block from our apt complex. I walked the extra
few blocks and returned to the apt exactly at 10am.
I chatted with Marcos.
He has a ticket for a September 10th flight back from Arizona. If the
flight happens I’m guessing he will have to self-quarantine for 14 days.
President Donald Trump on
Saturday accused members of the "deep state" at the Food and Drug
Administration, without providing evidence, of working to slow testing of
COVID-19 vaccines until after the November presidential election. There will be more lies as he becomes more
desperate.
New coronavirus cases in the U.S. climbed to nearly 49,000
Friday while the total number of deaths topped 175,000 across the country, as new
cases in more than 10 states trend upward.
More than 5.6 million people in the U.S. have contracted
Covid-19, accounting for just under a quarter of the global tally, according to
data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
While the U.S. has the most reported coronavirus deaths in the
world, it ranks 11th globally in terms of mortality rate, with about 53 deaths
per 100,000 people, or 3.1%, according to data from Johns Hopkins.
2:30 in the afternoon
and it’s still only 76 degrees.
The Senate
Intelligence Committee should be applauded for releasing the fifth and final
volume of its investigation into Russian interference in the 2016
U.S. presidential election.
With over 200
witness interviews and roughly 1 million documents reviewed, the nearly 1,000-page report documents in detail the
comprehensive campaign conducted by Russian President Vladimir Putin and his
proxies to seek influence within President Donald Trump's campaign, help
Trump win the 2016 presidential election and amplify polarization and division
within American society.
Far from
a hoax, as the president
so often claimed, the report
reveals how the Trump campaign willingly engaged with Russian
operatives implementing the influence effort. For instance, the report exposes
interactions and information exchanged between Russian intelligence
officer Konstantin Kilimnik and then-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.
According to the report, campaign figures “presented attractive targets for
foreign influence, creating notable counterintelligence vulnerabilities.” (Manafort
was later convicted of tax and bank fraud.)
Republican Rep. Dan Meuser of Pennsylvania tested positive
for coronavirus.
You’re not just imagining it: The mail really is experiencing
widespread delays, according to new internal United States Postal Service documents.
The documents were published by Rep. Carolyn Maloney ahead of
a Monday hearing with Postmaster General Louis DeJoy before the House Committee
on Oversight and Reform. Motherboard previously reported that a mix of the
coronavirus pandemic, more restrictive overtime policies, and a restriction on
the amount of time that mail can be sorted and loaded onto mail trucks before
they go out has led to delays in mail delivery. Maloney said that "these
new documents show that the delays are far worse than we were told” by DeJoy.
Trump says November's results might not
be known 'for weeks, months, maybe ever' because of mail-in ballots - then
claims only he can save the American Dream from 'total anarchy, madness and chaos'.
A coronavirus outbreak
linked to a wedding in Maine has led to one death and 52 COVID-19 cases, the
Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said Saturday.
About 65 people attended a wedding
reception at Big Moose Inn in Millinocket on Aug. 7, the Maine
CDC said, flouting the state's 50-person limit on
indoor gatherings.
Officials initially
identified 24 people who tested positive for COVID-19 after the wedding, 18 of
whom were attendees, and six who had come into contact with guests.
The number of positive cases
linked to the wedding has since increased, and the person who died Friday was
one of the patients who did not attend the wedding, the Portland Press Herald reported.

symptoms.
I wasn’t going to include this but then I saw it on Newsweek: Trump’s sister in secret
audio recording: ‘He has no principles’. “It’s the phoniness and this cruelty. Donald is cruel,”
Maryanne Trump Barry says in the newly released audio, recorded by the
president’s niece Mary Trump. (And yes, it is legal as long as one member
of the party allows it.)
President Trump took some time before golfing on Saturday morning to tweet
an easily provable falsity, lying about the Democrats and God.
In a tweet that as of this writing has not been
deleted, the president spread a falsehood to his millions of followers that
claims Democrats removed the words “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance
during their presidential convention last week. Trump is lying. “Under God” was
included in the pledge all four nights of the event.
“The Democrats took the word GOD out of the Pledge of
Allegiance at the Democrat National Convention. At first, I thought they made a
mistake, but it wasn’t. It was done on purpose. Remember Evangelical
Christians, and ALL, this is where they are coming from-it’s done. Vote Nov 3!”
