Self-isolation Day 36.

Happy Earth Day!

Last night I went to bed at 10:30, got up several times during the night, again at 6am when I took my Omega-3 and Swanson marigold flower supplements, fell back asleep finally waking/getting up at 8am.

Trump on March 9th So last year 37,000 Americans died from the common Flu. It averages between 27,000 and 70,000 per year. Nothing is shut down, life & the economy go on. At this moment there are 546 confirmed cases of CoronaVirus, with 22 deaths. Think about that!”  Per this morning’s Today show the US has 44,820 deaths due to the novel coronavirus.

Washington Post: “At least two people who died in early and mid-February had contracted the novel coronavirus, health officials in California said Tuesday, signaling that the virus may have spread — and claimed lives — in the United States weeks earlier than previously thought.

Tissue samples taken during autopsies of two individuals who died at home in Santa Clara County, Calif., tested positive for the virus, local health officials said in a statement. The victims died on Feb. 6 and Feb. 17.”

“The fact that there were deaths related to covid back in early February is very significant because it means the virus was around for a lot longer than was initially realized,” Jeff Smith, a physician and the county executive in Santa Clara, told The Washington Post. “It’s been around for a while and it’s probably been spreading in the community for quite some time.”

I watched the first hour of the Today show then left the apt at 10:15 and had the doorman call me a taxi.  It cost 12mil to get to Pricesmart with almost no traffic.  Inside I got a cart and took it to the entrance where a guard disinfected my hands and the handle of the cart as I entered.  The first thing I saw were more bottles of disinfectant than I’ve ever seen in my life.  (No, I didn’t buy any.)

I checked out their air fryers because Laura has been recommending we buy one but I have no idea where we would park it in our small kitchen.

I picked up turkey breast, pecans, ground beef, Planters Chunky Peanut Butter, strawberry preserves, paper towels, eggs, almond milk, and maple syrup.

There was only one small cart in front of me at checkout.

The cashiers are surrounded by hanging plastic and simply reach under to scan your membership card.  When it comes time to pay she asks you to put your debit card in the reader slot and she takes a copy of the receipt then puts in on a small clipboard for you to sign.

I packed my stuff and a security guard sprayed my hands and cart handle again as I left.

I took a taxi back to the apt and with little traffic I was back by 11:15.  The doorman brought a cart to the door and the taxi driver helped me load it from his trunk.  Then the doorman sprayed my hands and the handle of the cart.

When I returned to the apt Teresa already had the Parcheesi board set up.  She put the turkey in the oven as I put our extra things in my closet.  Of course she wanted to play immediately and we soon were in an argument over the rules.  We finally agreed on a set of rules and she won the first game.  (We finished the night with her ahead 3 games to 1.)

On February 7th Michael R. Pompeo, Secretary of State announced “This week the State Department has facilitated the transportation of nearly 17.8 tons of donated medical supplies to China.”  Now we have more details: These were donations by private charities and public companies for Project Hope.  The State Department sent a plane to pick up 800 consulate workers, their families and other Americans. The planes otherwise were going to be empty on the way to China, so officials decided to fill the jets with goods donated by Samaritan’s Purse, the Boeing Company, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Intermountain Healthcare.”

New autopsy results show two Californians died of coronavirus in early and mid-February -- up to three weeks before the previously known first US death from the virus. These deaths now stand as the country's earliest two attributed to the coronavirus, a development that appears to shift the understanding of how early the virus was spreading in the US.  The victims died on Feb. 6 and Feb. 17.

Trump and Fox News spent weeks hyping a possible COVID-19 treatment that was not only untested—it turned out to be deadly. On April 4, during one of his daily press bashings, Trump rattled off a list of things that were being done to address the deadly pandemic. One of the things he mentioned was an anti-malaria drug called hydroxychloroquine, which is also used to treat lupus.

The Associated Press sums up the details of the largest study on hydroxychlorquine as a COVID-19 treatment to date:

Researchers analyzed medical records of 368 male veterans hospitalized with confirmed coronavirus infection at Veterans Health Administration medical centers who died or were discharged by April 11.

About 28% who were given hydroxychloroquine plus usual care died, versus 11% of those getting routine care alone. About 22% of those getting the drug plus azithromycin died too, but the difference between that group and usual care was not considered large enough to rule out other factors that could have affected survival.

Hydroxychloroquine made no difference in the need for a breathing machine, either.

The Senate Intelligence Committee, which is chaired by Republican Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina, released its long-awaited 156-page report detailing its investigation into allegations that Russia sought to interfere in the 2016 election.

Their investigation found that Russia engaged in a deep and broad effort to influence the outcome of the 2016 race, aiming to help Donald Trump win. "The Committee found no reason to dispute the Intelligence Community's conclusions," said Burr in a statement on his committee's findings.

We assess Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an influence campaign in 2016 aimed at the US presidential election. Russia’s goals were to undermine public faith in the US democratic process, denigrate Secretary Clinton, and harm her electability and potential presidency. We further assess Putin and the Russian Government developed a clear preference for President-elect Trump. We have high confidence in these judgments.

Which now means that the following committees and communities have concluded the exact same thing about Russia's attempted interference in the last presidential election:

Teresa "insisted" we play a few more games of Parcheesi and now her lead is only 4 to 3.
We got a little rain about 4:30 in the afternoon.

Teresa keeps wanting to order pizza from Antica Pizza but it never happens.  She had me text Gloria and she gave me a number that Teresa called but it appears it’s a different pizza place.  I texted Gloria again and she said to order later.  I asked what time but didn’t get an answer.

I got tired of messing around so at 6:20 it took me 1 minute I to order a pizza from Na Pizza using my Rappi app for 24,900 pesos.  It’s supposed to be delivered in 31 minutes so we’ll see.  It arrived in 20 minutes and I paid 24mil for it to be delivered.  Not wanting to throw food away I gifted the last 2 pieces to the guards.

We had a little light rain in the evening.
