Self-isolation Day 22.

Last night I went to bed at 10:30, fell asleep quickly, got up twice during the night, finally waking/getting up at 7:45.

Because the coronavirus has taken away any chance of finding a job many Venezuelans are leaving Colombia and returning to their country.

I watched the first 20 minutes of the Today show, showered, shaved and dressed and left the apt at 9:45.  First thing I noticed different was at the end of the street the large parking lot for new cars was completely empty.  Walking thru Texaco there wasn’t a single car at the pumps and there was almost no traffic in the streets.

Outside Exito I recycled 3 plastic pill bottles and got in line to go inside.  A policeman came down the line checking everyone’s cedula numbers.  After that another came down the line enforcing a 2-meter distance between each of us.  After a 30-minute wait in partial sun I was allowed inside.  (It appeared that for every customer leaving they let a new one enter.)

I made a withdrawal from an ATM then paid the Une bill in the Exito office.  I picked up a couple small bottles of Mexican salsa and a couple bags of milk.  On impulse I picked up a large bag of individual bags of potato chips.

I noticed the Auros copy center, like most every other little store, was closed.

I paid for my groceries then went outside where I paid the Direct TV bill.

I walked back to the apt, returning at 11:15.  It was nice to get outside but the N95 mask is very uncomfortable.

Teresa wants me to go to some pharmacy in the La Buena Mesa area but I’ve never seen it before and she can’t give me their address.  I googled it but the only one I found was on Calle 36 Sur and she told me that’s not it.

I read that Bernie Sanders dropped out of the presidential race.  Finally!

I ordered a parchessi game from Amazon.  It’ll probably arrive in 2-3 weeks and I’ll have Envios Market deliver it.

New York State now has more confirmed deaths, 6,268, than Italy.  Governor Cuomo said that 779 more people have died, their highest single-day death toll yet.

Teresa left at 4pm for the pharmacy.  She came back at 5pm and told me she had to go to Sabaneta to pick up her medicine.

When Teresa returned she explained some new rules: 1) when a we return with food in a taxi we have to unload it outside the porteria into a shopping cart and take it to the elevator, 2) taxis are only allowed to take one person probably because only one person per family is allowed to go shopping, etc.
