Last night I went to bed at 11pm, slept through until almost
6am, and finally got up at 6:30.
At the Davivienda ATM I was surprised the initial screen has
changed; it’s now 2 split screens. The
amounts offered on the menu were either too low or too high. Luckily I had no problem at the ATH ATM. I took out 200mil; it seems if I have 300mil
with me I’ll spend 300mil, if I only have 200mil I’ll only spend 200mil. J I purchased my milk and another package of
Trident gum.
After breakfast (cereal with the remainder of the
strawberries from last night) at 9:30 I caught the Simon Bolivar 195 bus for
downtown.
I finally figured something out. One of the stops listed on the windshield is
Unicentro which, since centro is Spanish for downtown, I assumed was my stop
downtown. (Actually, the downtown stop
is Parque Berrio which is listed as P. Berrio.)
Today I noticed one of the Exitos the bus stops at is in UniCentro
mall. I also saw
I got downtown at 9:55 and Reina showed up a couple of
minutes after 10. We walked to the
insurance office at Carrera 46 #52-25 (office 603) and Reina talked to someone
there. I understood we were to come back
later. We walked outside to the end of
the block and Reina made a telephone call.
Right after the call we went back to the office and were escorted
in. They made copies of all the medical
records I had brought with me. I
understand this company is Saludcoop; supposedly Sura wouldn’t ensure me because
I’m not working. (Reina told me she was
downtown yesterday visiting a lot of insurance companies on my behalf.) I gave them 120mil for the 1st
month’s coverage and I understand if I’m not covered they will return my
money. I should know within 4 days if
I’m covered. I think it should just be a
formality as I’m sure my records will show how healthy I am. I have their business card with something
written on the back which I think states that I am to deposit my monthly
payments into an account at Bancolombia.
From there we walked about 6 blocks and Reina bought a piece
of wood trimmed to a specific size for her mother’s kitchen – and paid for it
with her own money I was surprised to see.
On the street I finally bought a small fan for 28mil ($15.56) to put
under the kitchen table for when I’m working on the computer. Only problem is, when I got it home, the nut
for the screw was missing. I’ll give
them the benefit of the doubt that they put it in the bag and it fell out. I don’t think I’ll have any trouble finding a
washer and nut for the screw. We had
lunch at C.C. Patio Union (Calle 50 #52-50) where Reina had fish for 28mil ($15.56)
and I had barbecued chicken brochette with a coke at Mr. Beef’s P&P for
12,100 ($6.72). After that, in the same
building, I bought a mostly white t-shirt for 10mil ($5.56) that says “The
Brave Diesel – Diesel Punk – edited by Sean Monaghan”. I’ll let you Google it to see what it means.
It’s been exactly 3 months today since I got sheared by that
barber. Here’s a reminder as to how I
looked afterwards:
Oops, wrong pictures.
This is Angel at 3 months. This is what he looked like after he got sheared back on Monday. See the resemblance? I’m starting to feel a little shaggy myself
so I’m pretty sure I’ll be getting my next haircut next week. Angel is 3 month old.
For dinner I tried something different – Chinese food. What I ordered – Agridulce con pollo –
translated as sweet & sour chicken. What
I got was chicken fried rice. It was
good but it was too much food. Including
the drink – mora – it cost me 16mil ($8.89).
I finally tried on the t-shirt and it’s too small. I usually wear a medium but was told to get a
large because they run small. And it was
still too small. I hope to exchange it
tomorrow after my trip to Parque Arvi.
