Last night I went to bed at 10pm (still raining), got up once at 5am (no rain), waking/getting up at 6:30.
I had a dream I was starting to forget things and I accepted
that I have dementia.
7 days remaining. One week from today, around 8pm, we’ll be
heading to the airport for our 12:15am red eye flight to Houston then on to
Chicago.
I left the apt at 8:15 and walked to the mall. I recycled a
few items, printed a page of chess notes and withdrew 2,000,000 pesos (all 50s)
at a Davivienda ATM outside Exito. At a Bancolombia ATM I used the consignasion
option to deposit cash into accounts for my health insurance and Teresa’s account
for our gym membership.
I stopped at Exito’s cellphone area and inquired about a
Samsung A52 5G cellphone. (My original idea was to buy each of us Galaxy A56 5G
cellphones but that would cost about $1000. So, my idea now is to just buy
Teresa the same model I have.) The rep led me to the Galaxy A56 5G cellphones
which were priced at 2,200,000 pesos so I thanked her and left. (I think I’ll
try Monterrey and if they don’t have it then I’ll give up finding it here in
Medellin.)
Upstairs I withdrew another 2,000,000 pesos (all 100s) from
a Servibanca ATM. In my usual bank, Av Villas, I paid July’s apt payment with
one of their new free-form deposit forms without any problem. I stopped at their
service desk and asked if I can pay my Movistar bill here. She directed
me across and down the hall to Banco de Bogota.
I entered Banco de Bogota and saw 2 cashiers with screens
behind them showing turn numbers. I asked a customer where I get my turn number
and he pointed me to a desk back at the entrance. I entered my cedula number
and telephone number and was given turn C5. I took a seat and 15 minutes later went
up to the desk. I handed the cashier a copy of my Movistar bill and she
had trouble scanning its UPC code. I showed her the original email on my
cellphone and that wasn’t any better. I asked her if people pay their Movistar
bills here and she asked an associate then replied, “no”. She directed me
across the hall to Bancolombia (which always has long lines).
I entered Bancolombia and waited a few minutes at the turn
machine to get my turn number S (for Senior?) 126. It’s been a while since I’ve
used Bancolombia but this time I noticed an option for seniors (people over 60)
that probably could have helped me years ago. The room was full with its dozens
of chairs and the screen showed they were serving S123 so I made a quick trip
to the restroom. When I returned, I got the last seat on the far side of the
room (there were still a few people standing). After a 30-minute wait I showed
the cashier my Movistar bill and she was also unsuccessful at scanning
it (which shows they don’t have that UPC code in their system so they don’t
accept Movistar). I asked where I could pay the bill and she carefully scanned
my paper bill and told me to go across the hall to Davivienda.
I went across the hall to Davivienda and it was closed with
this sign on the door.
Well, I guess I’m done for today so I went downstairs and
had a seat in Urbania and ordered my usual, ‘un latte caliente con leche
de vaca (don’t know why the girl would laugh at this point) y un vaso de agua
con hielo’.
I took a seat and started going through the chess page I
just had printed.
I was losing a game to chesswiz98 when he tried to trade
queens but ended up blundering his queen instead and he immediately resigned
increasing my rating to 1578. 😊
Two of my last three games I’ve only had an accuracy rating of
73.27 and 64.13 (percent). That is not acceptable; I can’t always be expecting
my opponents to blunder for me to win.
I sent photocopies of my payments to my health insurance
provider and real estate company and told them I’m going to be out of the
country for a few weeks so I’m paying early for July.
I left at 11:15 and saw this interesting t-shirt for sale in
one of the kiosk so I’ll show you below for today’s T-shirt of the Day.
I bought a small bag of sugar and small container of
blueberries in Exito before returning to the apt by taxi. (The driver
cut through McDonald’s and I asked him, “quieres un hamburgesa? Con papas?” and
he laughed.)
Today my knees feel very tired, no pain, just tired. I may
have overdone my leg workout yesterday. I need to be more careful this last
week before our trip because we may soon be doing quite a lot of walking and
standing.
Teresa told me she wanted to go to Santafe mall after lunch
but after lunch once again she ended up lying down for a bit. She said she doesn’t
want to go out but she doesn’t want me to leave her alone. Then she says we’ll
go to Antonio’s for gelato at 4pm. We’ll see.
These are some of the bracelets Teresa has made:
At 3:30 Teresa informed me of her new plan. I would go for
coffee and come back with a half-liter of Antonio’s coconut gelato.
On my way to the park I passed two girls, one speaking to
the other in heavily accented British English.
I had a latte in a busy Los Portenos for a couple
hours studying my new page of chess notes.
Afffn resigned our game in the endgame on the 31st
move increasing my rating to 1583; at least this time I had an accuracy rating
of 84.44.
I left at 5:30 and took this video of a busy Calle la Buena
Mesa.
There was a short line to pay for the ½ liter and a
reasonably long line to actually receive it.
I returned to the apt and Teresa had a taste right away and
later she made us pancakes topped with coconut gelato.
Today was a beautiful day, blue skies and no rain.
