Sunday, October 4, 2020

Last night I went to bed at 10:30pm, got up once during the night, finally waking/getting up at 6:30.

Looks like we got a little rain overnight.

I didn’t play any chess last night on Chess.com because we got home so late.

I received a couple emails this morning so maybe my Hotmail account is working correctly.

I left the apt at 7:50 and walked to the agreed upon bus stop on Avenida Las Vegas arriving at 8:10. Glenn arrived a minute later.

We soon caught a bus to Ciudad de Rio where we got off and walked a block to Ganso & Castor behind the Museum of Modern Art. James arrived about 20 minutes later.  Besides 2 café lattes I had the Greek yogurt with oatmeal and fruit. I expected the oatmeal to be cooked but it was just pieces of uncooked oatmeal. Not bad, just not what I expected. My breakfast with tip came to 31mil – about $9. James returned by metro and Glenn and I returned via a Sabaneta bus. I was back by noon.

We had a little more rain in the afternoon.

I watched the Chicago Bears lose today to the Indianapolis Colts 19-11.

This week has been one of the most news filled during the six-plus months that the COVID-19 pandemic has raged throughout the United States. On top of President Donald Trump’s recent diagnosis, the situation in the NFL is starting to ramp up in a very negative way. Right now, there are few if any more serious hotspots in the entire country than Green Bay, Wisconsin, home of the Green Bay Packers.

Earlier today, we found out that New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton, and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Jordan Ta’amu—who coincidentally had been playing the role of Cam this week in the Chiefs’ preparation for Sunday’s game—are the latest NFL players to test positive for COVID-19. The latest positive tests come after an outbreak within the Tennessee Titans franchise. The NFL had just one mid-season positive test through the first three weeks before the Titans situation arose. The Titans’ game against the Pittsburgh Steelers will be played later this season, while the NFL is still trying to figure out the situation with the Patriots-Chiefs game, though it may be played on Monday or Tuesday if the teams get the virus under control.

Both pieces of news are of significant concern for the Packers. As the NFL has attempted to navigate the virus without a bubble, every player remains vulnerable to catching the virus, especially in places where things are spiking. Head coach Matt LaFleur was asked to give a message to Packers fans, and it was very simple: wear a mask, and work to keep yourself and everyone around you safe.

“I would just ask that everybody consider others,” Matt LaFleur said. “I know the masks aren’t necessarily something we want to do… but we’ll do whatever’s necessary to keep everybody safe. To keep us able to play this game that we all love.”

CNN host Jake Tapper on Sunday reacted to debate between supporters and critics of President Donald Trump who are wavering between sympathy and anger over his COVID-19 diagnosis.

Sunday's State of the Union segment—entitled "Wishing Trump well while wishing things had been different"—addressed how many Americans practiced social distancing, wore masks and avoided public spaces for months while the president held large campaign rallies and mocked masks prior to his Friday infection.

Tapper said "many, if not most" people who are packing bars and rejecting science are prolonging the pandemic and "taking cues" from Trump.

Tapper stressed that he wishes Trump and several other recently infected GOP lawmakers a speedy recovery, but said of the president's failed leadership: "Sick and in isolation, Mr. President, you have become a symbol of your own failures."

Doctors not involved in treating President Donald Trump for COVID-19 said the fact that he has been started on dexamethasone - a generic steroid widely used in other diseases to reduce inflammation - is evidence his case is severe.

A Stanford law professor who says she was once treated with dexamethasone for brain surgery claims that President Donald Trump should be "incapacitated" after recently taking the same drug to treat his COVID-19 diagnosis.

Michele Dauber, who teaches law and sociology at Stanford University, said there's no way Trump could lead the country after taking the treatment.

"I couldn't be President of my cat when I was on Dexamethasone. He should not be exercising the powers of the Office of President on that drug. We are lucky if he doesn't start a war. He's incapacitated," Dauber tweeted Sunday afternoon.

The US has 7,362,174 ð 7,409,383 ð 7,443,595 coronavirus cases with 208,500+ ð 209,200+ ð 209,500+ deaths.

Per Medellin Guru, as of this afternoon Colombia has a total of 841,531 ð 848,147 ð 855,052 cases with 26,712 deaths.  Medellin has 67,762 ð 68,235 ð 69,433 cases, an increase of 1,191 from October 3rd to 4th. Envigado has a total of 4,162 cases, an increase of 128 from October 3rd to 4th.

Joke of the day

A Bible study group was discussing the unforeseen possibility of their sudden death. The leader of the discussion said, "we will all die some day, and none of us really know when, but if we did we would all do a better job of preparing ourselves for that inevitable event."

"Everybody shook their heads in agreement with this comment."

Then the leader said to the group, "What would you do if you knew you only had 4 weeks of life remaining before your death, and then the Great Judgment Day?"

A gentleman said, " I would go out into my community and minister the Gospel to those that have not yet accepted the Lord into their lives."

"Very good!", said the group leader, and all the group members agreed, that would be a very good thing to do.

One lady spoke up and said enthusiastically, "I would dedicate all of my remaining time to serving God, my family, my church, and my fellow man with a greater conviction."

"That’s wonderful!" the group leader commented, and all the group members agreed, that would be a very good thing to do.

But one gentleman in the back finally spoke up loudly and said, "I would go to my mother-in-laws house for the 4 weeks."

Everyone was puzzled by this answer, and the group leader ask, "Why your mother-in-law's home?"

"Because that would be the longest 4 weeks of my life."
