Saturday, October 3, 2020

Last night I went to bed at 10:30pm, got up twice during the night, finally waking/getting up at 8am.

I played 4 games on Chess.com last night, winning 3 and drawing 1. My rating is now 1484; I’m still struggling to reach 1500.

I left the apt at 9:15 and met Marcos outside Otra Parte. We walked to Parva where we each had a café con leche. He told me how unbearably hot it is in Arizona where he was visiting his grandchildren. I gave him 6 months of Reader’s Digest that I had finished reading I invited him to join us for breakfast tomorrow but he declined. I bought a pastel de quayaba for Teresa then returned to the apt.

My son emailed me that tomorrow’s Bears game vs the Indianapolis Colts has been upgraded from noon to 3:25pm.

We got some more rain around lunch time but again it didn’t last long.

I received this email to my Hotmail email account:

I don’t know if this email is legitimate or someone is just phishing. If it is legitimate I have no idea how I would “activate the new security system.” For now I’ll just wait and see what happens.

An hour later I Whatsapp’d my brother to send me a test email and it worked.

Florida Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz said Friday that if coronavirus can infect President Donald Trump, then "no lockdown" or social distancing measures can possibly keep it from spreading to the average American.

Gaetz told Fox News host Tucker Carlson that he's traveled with Trump frequently, and if the intensive testing measures taken by the White House weren't enough to prevent the president from becoming infected then "there's no place" COVID-19 could be stopped from spreading. He said the country must continue to re-open as Trump himself has called for because lockdown and social distancing protocols are futile.

He didn’t mention anything about the lack of masks and social distancing, did he?

The virus has swept through the top of the Republican Party, with 31 days until Election Day:

  • The President.
  • The First Lady.
  • RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.
  • Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien, experiencing "mild flu-like symptoms."
  • Hope Hicks.
  • Kellyanne Conway, former counselor.
  • Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah)
  • Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.)
  • Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.)

Conway and two of the senators (Lee and Tillis) — along with Notre Dame President John Jenkins, who announced a positive test — attended last Saturday's Rose Garden event with Judge Amy Coney Barrett.

It's looking increasingly like Donald Trump's Rose Garden event a week ago where he unveiled his Supreme Court nominee was ground zero for what is increasingly looking like a super-spreader COVID event, and ironically, it could sink Trump's SCOTUS nominee.

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie announced on Twitter Saturday morning that he has tested positive the COVID-19 virus.

The New England Patriots have placed quarterback Cam Newton on the COVID-19 reserve list.

The positive test results keep coming for the Tennessee Titans in the NFL’s first outbreak of COVID-19. One game already has been postponed and another rescheduled.

On Saturday, another Titans player and two staff members tested positive for COVID-19, raising the team’s total to 18 since Sept. 24, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press.

If the positive results don’t stop, the Titans’ next game, against Buffalo (3-0) on Oct. 11, could be at risk, forcing the NFL into even more rearranging of the schedule.

We left the apt at 7:30 and took a taxi to Mu. We had the large order of ribs & fries plus a bottled water for Teresa and a Coke for me. The total including tip was 96mil. Six months ago the restaurant would have been full. Today there was one other party in the main dining room and 2 others on the patio. We were back at the apt by 9pm.

Strangely, I haven’t received an email since the one my brother sent.

The US has 7,307,822 ð 7,362,174 ð 7,409,383 coronavirus cases with 207,600+ ð 208,500+ ð 209,200+ deaths.

Per Medellin Guru, as of this afternoon Colombia has a total of 835,339 ð 841,531 ð 848,147 cases with 26,556 deaths.  Medellin has 67,106 ð 67,762 ð 68,235 cases, an increase of 479 from October 2nd to 3rd. Envigado has a total of 4,043 cases, an increase of 70 from October 2nd to 3rd.

Joke of the day

Noted economist Milton Friedman who traveled to an Asian country in the 1960s was visiting a worksite where a new canal was being built. He was shocked to see that, instead of modern tractors and earth movers, the workers had shovels. He asked why there were so few machines. The government bureaucrat explained: “You don’t understand. This is a jobs program.” To which Milton replied: “Oh, I thought you were trying to build a canal. If it’s jobs you want, then you should give these workers spoons, not shovels.”
