Monday, November 9, 2020

Last night I took a Zopiclona and went to bed at 10:30, got up once during the night, finally waking/getting up at 7am.

Teresa complained that the local news used to be all about the virus but this morning it’s all about potatoes (and perhaps the price of).

The original plan this morning was for Teresa to go to the gym from 7am to 8am and then to meet me in line at Tigo/Une. At 7am she said it was too cold and there were some raindrops so she ended up not going to the gym.

We left the apt at 9:15 and walked to Tigo/Une at Carrera 42 #38Sur-69. There was only a short line but it didn’t seem to be moving. Teresa left me in line and went across the street to have a tinto. A young man came out and worked his way down the line. I understood he wanted to know what you were there for. I apologized for my poor Spanish and showed him the translation for “I want to increase my internet speed” on my cellphone. After about 25 minutes in line I reached the doorway and Teresa soon returned. The young man explained that only one of us could enter and it was obvious they were social distancing inside. Teresa sent me across the street where I had a café con leche. She returned about half an hour later and told me everything is fine and we should have our 10Mbps to 50Mbps increase sometime this afternoon for only another 4mil more per month.

We walked down to Bocados Bar where Teresa spent some time talking to Wilson. About 11:30 she asked me if I wanted to have lunch there. I said “fine” but after we return from Home Center.

We walked to the mall where I assisted Teresa in making an ATM withdrawal. Now she knows my pin number if something were to happen to me and she needs to get cash.

We went to Home Center where she picked out a couple pillows for our sofa. We went to their furniture area and looked at a recliner. She asked if I wanted one and I told her it wasn’t important. I tried it and it would be very comfortable for watching TV but the material looked like fake plastic and we saw some cut/damaged areas. We saw a 3-section sofa with nicer material but it was larger than we need. Teresa talked to a salesman who looked online and found the same sofa in 2 sections for 1,200,000COP. Both sections fully recline so I ordered it and I understand it should be delivered on the 15th (Sunday). I also recycled and bought 2 new D batteries.

We walked back to Bocados Bar where we had a nice lunch. She stayed a little longer but I returned to the apt. I ran Speedtest.net but I’m still at 10Mbps. I had a nap for a little over an hour.

Teresa returned about 4:30.

I arranged to meet Glenn and James for lunch at Otra Parte Wednesday at 12:20.

I texted Jose and we confirmed we will be meeting tomorrow for chess.

At 7:20 I noticed it was raining.

I checked various times but it’s still 10Mbps at 9pm.

Sacha Baron Cohen took a shot at Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Fox News on Saturday projected Joe Biden to be the 46th president of the United States and the “Borat 2” actor tweeted an image of Zuckerberg alongside President Trump captioned, “One down. One to go.”

Wall Street surged on Monday, propelling all three major indices to record highs after Pfizer said its vaccine was 90 percent effective in protecting people against Covid-19.

U.S-based pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and German biotech firm BioNTech made the announcement Monday morning, citing data from their late-stage vaccine trial.

"This is a game changer," Albert Bourla, Pfizer's chairman and chief executive, told CNBC in an interview Monday morning. "Today is a great day for science and humanity," he wrote in an official statement.

Pfizer says it did NOT join in the administration's partnership.

Pfizer head of vaccine development Dr. Kathrin Jansen told the NY Times: “We were never part of the Warp Speed … We have never taken any money from the U.S. government, or from anyone.”

Republican Gov. Gary Herbert issued a mask mandate and declared a state of emergency as coronavirus hospitalizations surge in his state.

It was supposed to be a scene of celebration. Instead, the Trump campaign’s election night watch party held in the White House East Room – with few masks and no social distancing – is being eyed as a potential coronavirus super-spreading event and yet another symbol of Donald Trump’s cavalier attitude.

The US has 9,893,570 ð 10,051,324 ð 10,124,704 coronavirus cases with 237,000+ ð 238,000+ ð 238,200+deaths.

Per Medellin Guru, as of this afternoon Colombia has a total of 1,136,447 ð 1,143,887 ð 1,149,063 cases with 32,974 deaths. Medellin has 105,232 ð 106,204 ð 106,516 cases, an increase of 307 from November 8th to 9th.  Envigado has a total of 8,350 cases, an increase of 17 from November 8th to 9th.  New infections appear to be decreasing.

Joke of the day

At the beginning of my shift I placed a stethoscope on an elderly and slightly deaf female patient's anterior chest wall.

'Big breaths,’ I instructed.

'Yes, they used to be,’ Replied the patient.
