Last night I took a Zopiclona and went to bed at 11:20 (right after Monday Night Football ended), took some time to fall asleep (partially due to the fact it sounded like someone in the apt upstairs was walking around in high heels), finally waking up at 6am and getting up at 6:15.
Jose texted me he wasn’t feeling well and wouldn’t be
joining me for chess today. I left the apt just before 8am and walked to the
mall. I had my usual breakfast at Habia Una Vez then I went up to the 2nd
floor to the banking area. I tried to make a withdrawal from the Davavienca ATM
but it said it could only give a maximum of 20mil. I went to Santa Eleña
where I had a café con leche and an almond croissant while reading some from my
new New in Chess magazine. I left about 10:15 and stopped in Exito where
I tried 2 different bank’s ATMs but neither worked so I just walked back to the
apt.
In the afternoon I studied some chess openings and finished
season 4 of Bosch.
The number of coronavirus cases in the United States passed 11 million
on Sunday. It took 100 days for the nation to log its first 1 million cases; it
took just six days to get from 10 million to 11 million.
The number
of people being hospitalized with covid-19 is also higher.
Fearing that the worsening crisis will lead to even more preventable deaths,
the governors of several states implemented
new restrictions to help slow the spread. The residents of North Dakota are now required to wear
masks. Colleges, high schools, workplaces and in-person dining are closing
for three weeks in Michigan.
Indoor social gatherings with people outside one’s household are now prohibited
in Washington,
along with indoor dining at restaurants and bars.
The governors of Michigan and Washington
appealed to the federal government to step in with more help for struggling
businesses in light of the new restrictions. In response, White House
coronavirus adviser Scott Atlas urged
people to reject their states’ public health guidelines. “The
only way this stops is if people rise up,” Atlas said in
a tweet Sunday night.
Moderna
announced Monday that a preliminary analysis shows its experimental
coronavirus vaccine is nearly 95 percent
effective at preventing illness, including severe cases. The
news comes a week after Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech said their
candidate was 90 percent effective. U.S. leaders and health experts cheered the
news, but — with wide distribution still months away — called for Americans to double down
on measures to prevent the spread.
A recent Ohio
wedding attended by 83 people has become the latest super-spreader event amid a
nationwide surge in Covid-19 after nearly half of them tested positive for
coronavirus, the newlywed couple said.
Among the 32
people to contract the virus were the couple, Anthony and Mikayla Bishop, and
three of their grandparents, two of whom visited the emergency room, the Bishops said in an interview with NBC affiliate
WLWT of Cincinnati.

Joke of
the day
A lawyer, who had a
wife and 12 children, needed to move because his rental agreement was
terminated by the owner, who wanted to re-occupy the home.
When he said he had 12
children, no one would rent a home to him because they felt that the children
would destroy the place.
He couldn't say he
had no children because he couldn't lie (as we all know, lawyers cannot, and do
not lie), so he sent his wife for a walk to the cemetery with 11 of their kids.
He took the remaining
one with him to see rental homes with the real estate agent.
He loved one of the
homes and the price was right.
The agent asked: "How
many children do you have?"
He answered:
"Twelve."
The agent asked,
"Where are the others?"
The lawyer, with his
best courtroom sad look, answered, "They're in the cemetery with their mother."
