Wednesday, March 2, 2022

Last night I went to bed at 10:15, got up at 1:30 and again 4:45am (it was raining lightly), took my medications, couldn’t fall back asleep, got up and watched CNN and did some computer work during the commercials.

I met Glenn at Los Porteños at 9am. He is using an agency other than Inter-Col because he believes it will cost only $500 instead of the $600 I paid last October, but I believe I paid something like $529 just in initial US embassy fees. I checked out the construction and workers are using jackhammers to tear up the street. I saw a man with ash on his forehead so obviously today is Ash Wednesday.

I found this sign in the window of our next door Exito.

I have no idea where "camino verde" (green way) is.

I returned to the apt by 11am.

Because I am a Diamond member of Chess.com they automatically put me on Vacation against my Russian opponent when I was 3 hours from defaulting. I manually turned Vacation off to force an end to the game.

I spent most of the day watching CNN for the latest news on the Russian attack on Ukraine.

My son texted me, “Michael is in Prague now with his son and baby mama”. Good to hear they are safe now.

I ordered 4 bottles of Calendula Flower from PipingRock.com.

My Russian opponent finally responded:

I responded, “that certainly justifies invading a foreign country”. (Pobrecito?)

I finally saw where I could abort the game and I did.

I just read an interesting Time magazine article. They suggested we do as we did in the 2nd World War, call for volunteer pilots from any country to defend Ukraine. The planes would be unmarked, and the pilots would be given Ukrainian citizenship.

I tried using World Remit to send myself cash to pay for the apt rental, etc, but I just got buffering at the payment stage. (I’m afraid the ATM won’t have cash when I need it.)  I’m thinking what I’ll do in the future is accumulate 2,000,000 pesos during the month to make the 1st of the month payment in cash using Bancolombia’s consignacion ATM.

I couldn’t get World Remit (wrong phone number and address and horribly slow chat line) or Remitly (verification to my MagicJack number) to work so I guess I’ll be working in cash.

The New York Times’ 7-day average of new daily infections and deaths has the US with 72,706 ð 61,118  ð 58,132 new cases and 2,028 ð 1,915 ð 1,818 new deaths.

Per Medellin Guru, as of yesterday, Colombia has a total of 1,882 ð 1,218 ð 1,222 newly reported cases with 74 ð 87 ð 45 newly reported deaths. I won’t be providing the new case statistics for Medellin and Envigado.
