Last night I went to bed my usual 11pm but it took some time
(more than hour?) to fall asleep – don’t know why. Teresa woke me up about 2:30am when she
announced that “it’s raining”. I was
awakened again about 3:30 by loud voices talking, laughing just outside our
window. I got up and closed the window
and almost immediately they stopped. A
few minutes later I got up again and opened the window. I got up and closed it again when it started
raining again. I got up about 5am to
pee. I finally woke/got up at 9:45. Thankfully, Teresa let me sleep in. It stopped raining about 10:30 but it’s still
very overcast.
I did another Speed Test at 11am and got 2.12 download and
1.18 upload.
I left the apt at 11:30, walked by 2 paper stores and found
them both closed. It was misting
slightly so I put up my small umbrella.
I stopped at a corner stand by Exito and bought a ripe avocado for 4,000
pesos.
In Exito I bought
prepackaged hamburgers, buns, a head of lettuce and 2 bags of milk for 22,000
pesos.
Back at the apt I asked Teresa for the letter from the real
estate agency that stated how much we will have to pay for the apt for this
next year. I understand she wants to
talk to someone at the agency and possibly sign a contract for 6 months instead
of 12. I suggested 10 months instead of
12 so maybe we could get that other apartment we saw that rented out last
March.
About 4:30 Teresa, MT and I walked down to Home Center. (We
saw 3 apartments for rent within the same block but I don’t want to live “down
the hill”.) We took a look at a number
of TV stands and Teresa found one she liked.
The main problem was that it was so low (it didn’t quite come up to mid
thigh on me) I didn’t think it would be high enough for my TV Listener receiver
to work.
Instead Teresa found a small
Electrolux vacuum cleaner she wanted for vacuuming the new furniture. She also picked out a ceramic container for
storing sugar and a few cloths that I think she wants to take to the gym. Everything cost 231,600 pesos (about $79).
Outside Teresa suggested we walk back to the apt instead of
taking a taxi and I said “whatever”.
After all she’s the one who’s carrying everything. We walked around the construction area for Home Center
and just before we got to Exito I happened to look at the plastic bag she was
carrying. It didn’t look large enough to
also be carrying the hand vacuum. I
asked her if she had the “machine” and she stopped and realized that she/we
never took it from the cashier. We
turned around and when we got back we found that it had already been sent back
upstairs. MT and I sat down by the front
door while Teresa went and got it. This
time I insisted we take a taxi.
I finally finished Rick Atkinson’s Guns at Last Light: the War in Western Europe and then downloaded
Michael Crichton’s Timeline. The former was 1,198 pages long but the novel
actually stopped at page 762 and the rest was Notes, Selected Sources,
Acknowledgments, Index, Photographs, Praise for Guns at Last Light, Also by
Rick Atkinson, About the Author, and Copyright.
One of my blog readers was nice enough to send me some tips
on making iced tea with my gallon sized tea bags. Muchas gracias!
In Chess Magnet School I was promoted to Guardian.
I completed a couple lessons in Rosetta Stone but I only
earned a score of 33% in the Writing lesson.
The good news is I’m glad I’m not going to have to do much writing in
Spanish. Those accent marks are a killer! The bad news is I think I need to score 80%
on the lesson before it lets me continue.
