Packed
my suitcases and Reina’s bags and we took a taxi to the apartment.
We starting unpacking and at 10am the refrigerator
came. Two guys, with no dolly, no belts,
no cutters, carried the refrigerator up a flight of stairs, unpacked it, moved
it into place, broke down the box and carried away all the packing materials.
Went to the ATM and took out some money. (at least 400,000 pesos for Aunt Helen) now
& 600,000 next month. My accounts
are getting empty quickly. We’re going
to have to start conserving until the next payments come into my account next
month.
Went to Carrefour then Exito (another department
store) and bought dishes, silverware, pots and pans, crockpot, blender, etc.
Bought a blanket for Dilan. She claims it gets cold in the evening but
since I have some more meat on my bones and am used to a cooler climate it doesn’t
bother me at all.
Reina ordered TV, Internet, and telephone (landline)
to be installed on Thursday. The 1st
2 months are supposed to be free which is good because it gives me a chance to
get caught up with these initial expenses.
After that it should cost about 130,000 pesos, about half of what I paid
for AT&T U-Verse back in Des Plaines.
We went back to Carrefour and bought some food. At least some staples and enough for dinner
tonight and breakfast tomorrow.
To conserve money, we’ve started to take the bus
more For example, we’ll take the bus to
the department store but then we’ll take a taxi back with all our things. Buses appear to be consistently 1600 pesos
per person (just less than $1) so if a taxi ride costs 10,000 pesos; the taxi
is 3 times more expensive (for 2) than the bus.
